This 100% Chardonnay wine contains zero dosage – a sugar/water mixture that determines the sweetness levels of sparkling wine – making this sparkler bone-dry and crisp. Pale straw in color with a delicate but persistent mousse, this Blanc de Blancs boasts a pleasant minerality on the nose and bright citrus on the palate.
Pair with oysters, sushi, and cream sauce pasta dishes.

SWMBO has a newfound affinity for Aperol spritzers. She discovered them on a cruise ship. I’m sure there are purists here who will find that disturbing, but here we are. I’ll have to go down to the cellar and assess my current Gruet holdings.
This sparkler would be great in an Aperol spritz! Drier than a prosecco, so you’ll have some nice crisp acidity to play with the orange notes in the Aperol.

NV Gruet Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs Sparkling - $20 = 11.76%
this wine is unique from our standard Gruet Blanc de Blancs as it is much drier and ages for 24 months minimum en tirage as opposed to our standard 18 months minimum. The Brut Nature typically retails for $25, so you’re getting a great deal today!
great question! This Blanc de Blancs has zero dosage (i.e. no sugar added) so it is notably drier than our traditional Gruet Blanc de Blancs. It also aged for a minimum of 24 months en tirage, so there’s some really nice complexity and depth of flavor on the palate.
@jimbothy@jshaver@losthighwayz You might find some crisp green or yellow apple notes on the palate, but mainly when it comes to acidity and fruit expression. This Brut Nature is nowhere as sweet as apple juice! It is produced in a similar style to our Sauvage wines, so you will find a familiar crispness on the palate however, the base cuvée used for each is distinct and the Brut Nature ages for a minimum of 24 months en tirage before disgorging, which creates a lovely complexity in the wine.
My wife and I really enjoy Champagne and Sparkling wines, as well as Reds. We have a cellar: using that term loosely - it’s more of a basement stocked with expensive and moderate price ranged bottles. This family is always in for the Gruet offers, as they are great drinkers, and great for opening for groups. While the price point has creeped up over the years, Casemates still beats the street price even sale prices, especially when Sauvage is part of the deal.
Was not familiar with the Gruet Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs Sparkling. As a reference point our palate is on the drier side with lower dosages - and we really like vintage releases. This has a moderately yeasty nose and is nicely dry. We discussed this sparkling after tasting a few sips, and the debate was one or two cases. Whelp, it’s two cases. If you enjoy a sparkling or Champagne dry with a bit of yeast taste you’ll like this. It will pair nicely with food. If you enjoy a crisp, more residual sugar sparkling or champagne might not be your thing. For the price this Gruet will beat out any grocery store buy - and be a WAY better drinker IMHO.
Always appreciate being a Lab Rat. Delayed post due to UPS changing their mind on delivery to Monday rescheduling from Friday, then Saturday.
Happy to see Gruet offered again! Always an auto buy for me, and I’m excited to try a new take (for me) on Blanc de Blancs! As I write, I’m just finishing my last sip of the Harvest Moon Verdelho, so good timing WD. Thanks!
Half case here. Any more and I’ll have to figure out how to hang it from my “Wine Cellar” ceiling. Love Gruet, and really need to drink up all the sparklers I’ve been hoarding for “special” occasions.

@camartinbk The “delivery in time for New Year’s” comment on the main page is very likely accurate. They probably forgot to update the standard delivery estimate they use on this page. But @thumperchick should be able to confirm.
@camartinbk@hscottk@Thumperchick This is where WD usually swoops in and advises people to ignore what the bot wrote, that the by-NYE ship date on the main page is the one to go by.
The deal ends soon. I’ve bought from them for years with no problems. They often have the same wine as Casemates, sometime before and sometimes after. That makes me wonder if they are affiliates, or if the wineries are just trying to get cash through a number of outlets. Usually they are a dollar or two more expensive, but the minimum is smaller. Often two to four bottles.
@Springbank some Gruet has been available in local grocery stores, used to be around $13, and you could combine with buy 6 of anything get 10% off promos. But this offer was for “Brut Nature” which appears to be a distinctive product.

Just had my last bottle of the Sauvage tonight. I’ve missed the Gruet offerings; shame I won’t be here to collect.
@Ten9Eight wish this had some Sauvage in like a combo.
@Ten9Eight sounds from Vintner comments that this is closer to the Sauvage than their traditional blanc de blanc, so might be in for 6.
@pmarin I’d buy a case if I could get it.
In for 1/2 case; don’t need it, no room, but we Love Gruet. Happy Holidays All

Anyone know how this compares to the other Gruet? Not sure I have seen the “Nature” Blanc de Blanc.
@jshaver

great question! This Blanc de Blancs has zero dosage (i.e. no sugar added) so it is notably drier than our traditional Gruet Blanc de Blancs. It also aged for a minimum of 24 months en tirage, so there’s some really nice complexity and depth of flavor on the palate.
Thanks @juliav16, looks like I am in for a case!
@jshaver @juliav16 So then how does it compare to the other other Gruet, Sauvage? which is also a zero dosage blanc de blancs, no?
@jimbothy @jshaver @juliav16 great question! I’m also concerned about the “taste like apple juice” notes on CT
@jimbothy @jshaver @losthighwayz You might find some crisp green or yellow apple notes on the palate, but mainly when it comes to acidity and fruit expression. This Brut Nature is nowhere as sweet as apple juice! @jimbothy @jshaver @juliav16 @losthighwayz it was this info that put me over the edge!
I want to know who first had the guts to slurp a raw oyster…
/showme person slurping raw oysters
@rpstrong Full disclosure: I’m one of those people.
@rpstrong Reminds me of wondering how anybody every thought about eating an artichoke. Or the insides of a sea urchin.
@Mark_L @rpstrong I suspect it comes from a time when the entirety of (pre-) humanity was in the hand to mouth stage of development.
@davirom @Mark_L @rpstrong
As far as sushi is concerned probably someone who was starving to death and had no fire or was too lazy to start a fire
@mediocrebot At least a raw clam or oyster could have started on a quick dare. How did Tripe become a thing when you have to cook it after seeing it?
Gruet used to be an auto buy for me, but Indiana has been missing from the ship to list for awhile now. Sadface.

@ChiWineOne thanks for the review! Any thoughts about the “Apple juice” notes on CT? Also, how does it compare to the Sauvage? Thanks
@ChiWineOne @losthighwayz
Where are you seeing “apple juice” on CT? Not showing up for me.
@losthighwayz No apple juice for me. Does have a darker golden color. Does have a more mature taste than the Sauvage.
@ChiWineOne @losthighwayz @chipgreen Don’t see anything about apple juice either. He must be referring to the “strong apple flavor and nose” comment.
@ChiWineOne @hscottk @losthighwayz
I did see that, along with a good half dozen comments that suggested there is just a hint of apple.
@chipgreen @ChiWineOne @hscottk you may be right though I swear I read it on a tasting note. Getting older sucks

@Springbank @pmarin
RWS is pretty well known here, and WD/WCC does the shipping logistics for them as well
Looks like this won’t make it in until after NY
