A fresh and delicate style, our Demi-Sec opens with aromas of fresh apples, pears, and peaches that continue on the palate. Flavors of honeysuckle and pineapple emerge on the well-balanced finish.
Winemaking
Our Demi-Sec encompasses both the finesses of a well-made méthode champenoise sparkling wine and the playfulness of an everyday, slightly sweet libation. The Demi-Sec is one of Brides Magazine Top Ten Wedding Wines but pairs well with all of life’s special occasions. It is a perfect balance of delicate sweetness and refreshing acidity.

Happy Holidays everyone! Delighted to be a Lab Rat for this Gruet Sweet Jolie sparkling wine. Received it a day ahead, so left it in the fridge to chill for the next day.
It’s a lovely green bottle with gold foil and descriptive back label. In the glass, the wine is a very pale straw color, almost clear. Notably fine effervescence - lots of tiny bubbles.
On the initial pop and pour, I thought I detected a bit of strawberry on the nose, it definitely smelled sweet and slightly yeasty. On the palate however, it wasn’t overly sweet, it was medium to light bodied and just a little bit tart with a lingering finish.
We put it back in the fridge with a champagne stopper while we ran out to pick up dinner. On the second pour, I did pick up peach and floral notes on the nose.
Our first food pairing was a simple crostini with blue cheese and honey – this worked pretty well. The blue cheese cut through the sweetness of the wine. For the second pairing, I thought I’d try it with some Kung Pao Chicken – not so great because the fizziness was fighting the spiciness. The best pairing was dessert – we had a crème brûlée and a slice of mixed berry pie – these perfectly complemented the wine since they matched the sweetness.
We really enjoyed this sparkling wine – I’m planning to grab six bottles at this price point. A terrific wine to serve with dessert or by itself. Thanks Alice and Casemates for the opportunity to be a Lab Rat again!
Hi there folk. Been awhile. I’m still around. Just never set up desktop and don’t like typing much on phone. But now it’s time.
Ya know, the only thing better than a bottle or wine in the ‘mail’ is getting a free bottle of wine. So when I got asked to rat for today, I said sure. Now those who might remember, my love is more exotic, ice wines, meads, I’d love a good May Wine if such a thing existed anymore. So I don’t know what to expect when I get asked to rat.
When UPS dropped it off yesterday, I opened it with trepidation. Fear even, that it would again be a cab, and I don’t like cabs or any heavy red wine. Opened the box and saw “Brut” and thougtht, well, it’s not red, but but, it’s fizzy. I shrugged and put it in the frig.
Took it out this evening and read the label. Smiled and thought, okay, you can do this. Then I realized that I had never opened a bottle of bubbly in my life, and went and googled how to open the bottle, yes really That was my TIL for today.
On pouring a glass it is a very very pale yellow and has a fruiting floral aroma and lots of fine bubbles.
I closed my eyes, took a deep breath and took a sip and was very very pleasantly surprised that I actually like it, a lot. It’s sweet, and sparkling and light and fruity and well, overall yummy. Very pleasant. Had two small flutes of it, but alas that is my limit and it being bubbly, all I would get out of the bottle as it will go flat. I would pleasantly have more. It would be awesome with brunch or made into mimosas or other of that sort of cocktail or after a meal with a nice dessert or as dessert. I think it would go awesome with a cheese board.
Good job!!

These specs also have to be wrong.
2% g/l acidity? Which is it? Given that it’s Demi sec, it should be 2%.
72 ppm acidity? 0.072 g/l acidity? That seems way too low.
Stop it! You’re killing me! With an overflowing cellar, I’m a sucker for sparkling wines, and even more of a knock over for slightly sweet wines, and a total patsy for slightly sweet sparkling wines.
I know. I know. Most folks eschew sweet wines as well as sparklers. And I enjoy a great Cab Sav with a lot of tannins right there with you. But owing perhaps to a deliberately limited diet, sweet wines are of great interest.
I’m in, in spite of the fact that the budget is severely bent owing to the holiday season/end of the year expenses and excesss.
Flashback to December 2021 and the drunken cyclist (thedrunkencyclist.com) was blind tasting through 45 American sparklers and had this to say about today’s offer:
NV Gruet Winery Demi-Sec “Sweet Jolie”, New Mexico: Retail $15. Varietal composition? “Sweet Jolie.” No idea and nothing offered on the inter webs. Pale straw in the glass with a tart nose of citrus and tree fruit with a dash of yeastiness. A bit sweet on the palate, but nowhere near unctuous, with great fruit and plenty of verve. Very nice. (Once I learned that this was a demi-sec, I was shocked as this is far from “sweet.”) Very Good. 88 Points.
Drinking a Lambrusco Secco with our spicy nachos tonight. Brut is just too dry for me. This offer should hit the “sweet” spot. And WD, thanks for the coupon from a prior purchase.
This is something that my wife and I will probably enjoy. Also, the 6-bottle penalty is fairly low, and using my Mystery Case coupon lowers the per-bottle price by $2.50!

If there are any Casemates in the Twin Cities that are interested, I’d be happy to take a few bottles just for the sake of trying a new/different Gruet.
