Per my labrat, I believe that yes, I got a heat damaged bottle. It was on the truck at 8am, but didn’t get delivered to my door until 7pm.
I don’t know if the entire UPS truck was filled with overnight envelopes, but the trucks aren’t that big. I don’t know how it can stay on a truck for nearly 12 hours. Does the driver deliver to another state during the route?
It was 95 degrees from the infrared to the bottle (who knows what the juice inside was) and the cork looked bulbous.
I think WD goes to great lengths to assure the product, but the fact it was next day delivery, in a foam package, but temped at that, and was a crap bottle, starts to make me reconsider ordering during summer.
@KNmeh7 Yeah, I’ve had the same thing happen with packages sitting on a truck all day. That’s what happened with our order of Stolpman - got delivered at like 6pm after driving around my neighbourhood all day in the heat. One cork was leaky. CM refunded it, but I wanted to age them for a few years before diving in.
Tampa, Fl here. After a couple of sad Wines delivered in the summer heat I now only order Nov to Apr. When FedEx was the carrier I had more faith that the package wouldn’t sit in a truck for an extra day and ordered more often. Two day UPS, at least in my area, is a pipe dream.
@dhlund250 As have I in rural central Missouri (I’m at the end of the truck’s route, so deliveries usually come around 6pm). However, the newly revealed ability to redirect to an access site (such as a UPS store) makes summer shipments a much less daunting considerations, as it is delivered to the store about 10:30 am and waits in air conditioned comfort for me to pick it up (although about an hour round trip, but I usually can combine it with some other errands).
@Mark_L Our UPS Store ~10miles away charges $5 to hold pkgs., which under some circumstances might be worth it. The one south of me (Toledo) charges $10 “because it’s alcohol” she says, “so it’s a bigger responsibility”. I said, you mean ‘cause it’s bigger box?!! I won’t be shipping there anymore.
@ttboy23 When I picked up my package there was no mention of any charges. I also checked my credit card that is on file with UPS and it has not had any charges (unlike the $5 charge that appeared when I once needed to reschedule a delivery).
@Mark_L That’s interesting, after seeing the fees at 2 different stores I wondered if it was up to each location what to charge. I thought that UPS Stores were company-owned, now I’m thinking franchised. Either way it adds to the price of Casemate deals

Absolutely, many, if not most or all, excepting distribution centers, are franchise locations. As such, it seems they can set their own pricing for extra services, perhaps with guidelines, but not mandated.
@Mark_L@rjquillin Update! I just picked up an order and they didn’t charge the $5 fee, wee-hee. Something has changed or they’ve just gotten to know me, finally! It would be nice to know for future purchases if I can eliminate any extra shipping charges because it sure was nice to get my order at the front counter, bottles still very cool to touch (Delivery 10:38am, picked up at 3:30)

They may be phasing this in. Perhaps not available everywhere just yet but I was able to redirect my labrat bottle of Sterling to CVS. I can’t imagine the fact that it was shipped overnight had anything to do with it. It’s either ok or it’s not, right?
I find most of my deliveries are at the end of the UPS route for the day ( based on his route and my location) but sometimes I’m lucky and the UPS guy has kept it extra cold-er? for me. Only a few times has it arrived midday and the other driver cares not for my wine or it sitting in a package locker at high heats. When my Burgundy arrived I tipped him a Hero Zin and cold water. He says the last 4months been like Xmas everyday, overwhelmed and still understaffed…

2-day shipping is included during the summer months, so the wine should arrive safely
I’ve had that issue in south Texas if the delivery is made late afternoon. All day in a truck at 100+ degrees can make a real difference.
