2020 Housley’s Century Oak Winery Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Judy’s Vineyard
Silver Medal, 91 Points, California State Fair Silver Medal, West Coast Wine Competition
Tasting Notes
This wine has received multiple 90-point scores and medaled in every single competition entered. It is grown, crushed, aged, and bottled all on site. It is aged in mostly new French Oak barrels for 26 months and has all the signatures of a new world cabernet. On the nose, you’ll get deep berries and spice, which pairs nicely with the wine on the palate. This estate cabernet has silky tannins, with hints of dark plum, pepper, wild cherry, and dark berries. It is very well balanced and pairs fantastically with food. This is our most popular wine and true “house Cabernet”.

Winegrowers in the Napa Valley and Acampo/Lodi for more than 44 years, our family has worked the soils of Northern California to produce some of the best wine grapes in the region, and we continue those same hardworking ideals with our family-owned and operated winery dedicated to high-quality wines. Established in 2000, Housley’s Century Oak Winery has quickly made a name for itself with our family approach to award-winning wines at affordable prices. We have been fortunate enough to garner more than 200 medals and scores as high as 96, 95 & 94 points from respected competitions and many Gold Medals from judges and tastings across the country.
The Napa Valley is where we planted our first vineyard, and our Housley Cabernet Sauvignon is a fine example of the incredible wines that our valley continues to produce. In the past, we have also made a Napa Merlot, but it’s the current Cabernet that gives our winery a unique identity and way to marry these great red regions of Northern California.
While overall the winery history now dates back two decades, on the growing side, the family began in the wine industry with a 6-acre Chardonnay vineyard in Napa back in the mid-1970s. We continue to grow respected vintages in Napa, now focusing more on Cabernet, and also in the Lodi/Acampo and Woodbridge region.
As for our Century Oak name, it comes from the famed valley oak tree that towers over our main vineyard and winery site. Valley Oaks are California’s tree and have stood in California’s heartland, like the Lodi Appellation, for centuries. Known for their beauty, strength, history, and size, we feel our wines are best represented by California’s guardian, the Valley Oak.

The bottle arrived in plenty of time for the offer launch. My daughter was visiting for a few days, and she spotted the bottle on the counter and took note of the label. Being a “Sister Sister” fan when she was a kid, and now a Hallmark Movies fan, she recognized the name and winery immediately. And she is not a wine drinker!
The cork was lightly stained purple. Easy PnP. Long legs, no aroma at all. The color was dark bing cherry, surprisingly almost opaque. On the first swig, there was just a bit of bright red fruit up front, nothing much at mid-palate, and a brief lightly tannic and dry finish.
2nd glass an hour or two later, and it has opened up some. Cherry now emerges from the red fruit, but still very little mid-palate. Again the finish is brief and lightly tannic, but now there’s a perfumey quality, perhaps cedar or sandlewood.
2 days later waiting on the counter recorked, Still very little on the nose, cherry and tart red fruit up front and a bit now trickling in mid-palate. The finish was slightly longer and pleasantly tannic as noted earlier. This paired well with a grilled cheese and ham on sourdough (seems to be my go-to with tasting wine these days). I don’t think this is a special occasion wine, but iI think it’s pleasant enough to drink on its own. I am surprised to find this wine showing younger than 2020. It seems a little “closed” and since it did evolve, this may benefit with some more time in bottle. Or drink it now with a decant.
I’m curious of the winemaking details and price point of this Casemate’s offer!

The 2020 Housley’s Century Oak Winery Judy’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon opens with pleasing aromas of black cherry and other dark berry fruit, baking spice, a little cedar, a little leather, a little cigar box and a little licorice. There’s lots to discover here and the longer it breathes, the more subtleties that come out.
Tasting the wine reveals it to be nicely tannic with plenty of dark berry fruit and well-integrated spice. It’s still in its youth, but it’s really delicious already with even more development to come. This would be great with a burger! 20 months in new French oak is a LOT, but this one has the fruit to able to handle it and the result is pretty amazing at this price.
It ends dry, quite long, grippy and a bit chewy. It gets better the longer it is open so don’t be afraid to give it lots of air. It held up on day 2 just fine

Loaded with enough fruit to handle 26 months in mostly new French oak, the 2020 we have on offer here today is still in its youth, but it’s delicious already.
Nicely tannic, this would make a great cheeseburger wine! And with plenty of life ahead of it, there’s no reason not to stock up.
