How important are the flavors imparted on a wine from the oak barrels to you?

While the use of oak barrels is of great importance, it’s really the misuse of oak that makes or breaks a wine. Neutral oak won’t hurt a great wine, but too much new oak, or the wrong kind of oak, can ruin a wine.
