How long do you generally wait before sampling a Casemates purchase?
3I buy red wine online and for vintages that are ready to drink now, I generally allow about 3 weeks for the wine to settle down after shipping across country by Fedex. Not sure if this is a myth or not but interested in what others do or think?
Also of the 100 or so purchases I have made from this site and the old one, I have had only 1 bottle break in transit - a Ty Caton Cab in a mixed red trio - and Wine David or one of his helpers took care of it. Saying that will probably curse future shipments!

I pop one as soon as it falls off the truck!
24 hours on a case. Couple weeks if I only opt for a few bottles.
@browncj7 very similar for me!
Usually just wait a day or two for a case…may wait several weeks for a partial case (waiting for the right meal or occasion).
I’d say it depends on a lot of things. If it’s something that’s new to me, I’ll open a bottle within a week or two of its arrival, and in some cases, that has caused the rest of the purchase to become gifts to others. No sense in keeping something that’s not my cup of tea (so to speak).
If it’s something I bought, but already knew about, it gets opened sooner or later, when it appeals to me, and seems to fit the menu. I live alone, and a bottle of wine (for me) is four glasses; with rare exception, that’s four nights. I almost never drink more than a single glass.
I’ve probably given away 15%-20% of the wine I’ve purchased in the last two years (between the wine.woot blowout, and Casemates). Some was purchased in the expectation that it would be a good gift. Most of it has been given away because it found a better home elsewhere. :-}
Interesting responses - thank you - I think I am going to change my strategy on case purchases and try a bottle straight away if its something new to me.
I open as soon as I get them. I don’t believe in bottle shock. However, I do believe in biodynamics.
@losthighwayz agreed on travel shock at least for most wines but your other point is just crazy talk
Similar as others… Case - same day or at most 1 - 2 days. Less than a case - wait for right occasion but I’ll also do research and keep longer if the wine gets better with age.
