I drink almost exclusively red wines.
My usual practice is to pour off half of a newly opened bottle into a half bottle and to cork it for the next evening.
This has two effects: it makes it easier to stop after I’ve had half a bottle (so I get less intoxicated and consume fewer calories) and I can see if it shows any improvement from being decanted. If a wine is particularly raw, I may shake up the now half-empty bottle to give the wine some more air. It all depends.

My usual practice is to pour two glasses for me and SWMBO. The second half of the bottle gets corked and stays on the counter 'til the next evening. That gives two significantly different tastes of the same wine.
Decant? If I feel it’s necessary after a taste.
Not the majority or even quite a few.
If it’s recommended; by who?

Decanting is like using a straw, right?
