@jbartus Logic people always start with “Let A=A”… but you should cut them off right there, because that is plainly bullshit. Never give those bastards an inch!
@pantheist you’re right! It’s too big. But we could have worse problems. It could be too purple! (And since it’s a Meh wine site, we should be grateful that they didn’t go with a “LOL, our font is purple!” gimmick, eh?
@snapster Purple is a wonderful idea for a wine site and I’m so glad that @UncleVinny suggested it. Can you make this happen? Does @Shawn do forum work here, too? We love purple here.
@UncleVinny I’m not sure any of the ones made by users work on Casemates yet. Once (or if depending on your backing level) you get your vmp badge you have the option to change the forum to “dark mode” which is much easier on the eyes. At least, at one point it was vmp only, they may have opened it to the masses now. It also let you change other aspects of the forum display. You can check here to see what options you may have now. https://casemates.com/account/forum-settings
@UncleVinny I started making forum themes awhile back for the Meh forum. I’ll get them going again over here and probably expand the offering a bit and make a post when the time comes.
@snapster@f00l I guess it’s a good thing I never really tried to find old content on meh other than via search… I generally abandon a site upon discovering it uses infinite scrolling.
@brhfl yes, it’s meant to find a topic that was only slightly stale, given any comment to it bounces it back up top. Like if you went on vacation you could look back. If you were in a coma, it sucks. If you’re looking for a specific mention of something a long time ago, we need native search (for now, google)
I’m still struggling to sort out how to navigate threads here. Used to be, ww, I could just scroll to the bottom of the thread of interest and see what I’ve missed. This seems like mulligan stew. Doesn’t even seem to be an easy way to get back to from where you came.
Adaptation will not come easily.
I would like to have a markdown code info/guide, and links to the “introduction of forum features” type topics included in a section of the FAQ, once you get a proper FAQ.
The biggest change here is that each reply to a main topic can start it’s own mini-topic. You reply directly below a comment you are replying to, and it shows up below it, not at the bottom of the thread.
It’s like Facebook status updates. You reply to a status by commenting on it, and your comment goes below that status, not a new post in the stream (like w.w and Twitter).
In the previously-linked Forum Settings page, “default” mode works best any time you are a “thread regular” - it hides replies that you’ve read and only shows unread replies.
If you don’t like how the forum hides things you’ve already read on a return visit, I suggest Firehose mode.
If you feel overwhelmed with too much text, Pagination mode, set at 6, seems to be a sweet spot.
I’m not sure if that’s just what you call it or if you’re afraid of getting posts deleted because of mentioning a competitor. If it’s the former, cool. If it’s the latter, you should probably know that there is next to no censorship here. As long as you aren’t an over-the-top dick, you’ll be fine- most of the time you’ll be fine even if you are.
@Pantheist Pure habit. There was little fear of censorship over there as well, at least on the wine side. Except for the brief period where they really cracked down on posting referral links to other sites (whether they were related or not).
Feature request: An account level option to disable rendering giphy images. I’ve grown to hate them over the past week, and while I can generally hack it so they don’t show, I’d rather an account level setting so they wouldn’t render regardless of the device or network I’m on.

@jbartus You and your logic.
@Pantheist Logic is the beginning of wisdom, not the end.
You’re welcome.
@Pantheist
@jbartus
Logic is the beginning of wisdom/insanity/chaos, not the end.
You’re welcome

Those logic people, they already took the universe, and then some.

@UncleVinny too purple? Is there even such a thing? @barnabee?
@snapster Purple is a wonderful idea for a wine site and I’m so glad that @UncleVinny suggested it. Can you make this happen? Does @Shawn do forum work here, too? We love purple here.
@PurplePawprints maybe a dark background with lilac letters? Intriguing!
@UncleVinny dark mode is a good discovery.
@PurplePawprints I could always get Mehcromatic working over here…
Maybe it should be renamed to Mediochromatic.
@jbartus maybe somebody should Clue us relative newbies in on the world of Mehdiocre addons and browser extensions…
@jbartus @PurplePawprints @UncleVinny
Purple would be the bestest. Bring it on!

@UncleVinny @PurplePawprints nope u dont need vmp(my vmp has been long gone) here what dark mode looks like

Have you tried it via mobile browser yet? It will be interesting to see trend of user devices here
@snapster
Nothing but mobile yet.
I’m good here.
Would like the option of paginated topic listings, as a user-selectable alternative to the (hated, here) “topic infinite scroll”.
If you don’t do this, the older info will get seriously lost.
Google search just doesn’t do that well in a user friendly extensive deep search, after a site had been around a few years.
@f00l seriously losing old topics is a feature I enjoy a lot.
@snapster
Understand. Otoh:
Here, the loss would include lost tasting notes topics, and lost discussions of specific wines.
@f00l agree but native search for that is so much better than numbered pages of sludge. We’re not investing in that.
@snapster @f00l I guess it’s a good thing I never really tried to find old content on meh other than via search… I generally abandon a site upon discovering it uses infinite scrolling.

@snapster I try to avoid mobile browsing whenever I can
@snapster
Native search would be loverly.
@f00l If memory serves, meh had a native search before moving to Google, but it only searched post titles, and was therefore pretty ineffective.
I’m still struggling to sort out how to navigate threads here. Used to be, ww, I could just scroll to the bottom of the thread of interest and see what I’ve missed. This seems like mulligan stew. Doesn’t even seem to be an easy way to get back to from where you came.

@rjquillin If you go here there are some adjustments you can make to the forum display that might make it more comfortable for you.
This is my preference which makes it easiest for me to find what I haven’t read yet, ymmv.
And for now, to get to the main forum page, just click Casemates at the top left.
@rjquillin ctrl-f and search for hour or minute is a good way to see recent posts
@rjquillin
There is a gray line on the right side in any post new since you entered that topic or refreshed.
Also play with the forum settings some.
Example:
@f00l Thanks. It’s getting better, just a huge change.
@rjquillin Also setting the forum settings to custom, with 2 in each box and “new threads” checked has made this a lot more palatable for me.
@f00l All these years on meh and I never knew about the gray line on the right side. I’ve probably missed a few things. Derp.
I am also struggling with this forum. Would love to get a tutorial on how to use this. #Meh/Casematesforumfordummies
@pseudogourmet98 this thread may become that. It’s usually a topic subject line that annoys me that succeeds.
@snapster
I would like to have a markdown code info/guide, and links to the “introduction of forum features” type topics included in a section of the FAQ, once you get a proper FAQ.
@snapster You don’t like my topic title?
@pseudogourmet98
Here are the slash comands
Here are the forum settings
dark mode main forum topic page, iPhone X
@snapster Isn’t it more like this?
@snapster honestly, it looks good on a galaxy s3. Just garbage on a laptop.
@Pantheist Wait a minute, you’re not the President are you?
To those coming from w.w ----

@Collin1000 What kind of parental settings do I need to set to get Firehose mode?
I see a lot of people here calling wine.woot w.w

@PantHeist I’m not even bothering to add the dot.
Rest assured, it is primarily laziness.
Also, FWIW, I use Custom with 2, 2, unread and dark.
@Pantheist Pure habit. There was little fear of censorship over there as well, at least on the wine side. Except for the brief period where they really cracked down on posting referral links to other sites (whether they were related or not).
I have one thing to say to those complaining about the font. It could be Comic Sans.
That is all.
@edlada Good, there’s too many feral cats as it is!
Speaking of fonts, what’s the name of the font used in the Casemates’ logo?

@xandersherry @dave @snapster
Yes on suppressing the giphys.
I don’t care if you do have lazy load, they are annoying to at least some of us.
@rjquillin Especially when occasionally reading things at work in my open office…
@klezman yup, many nsfw.
