I will pick up some things, but not everything. There might be 15 things mentioned, and I’ll pick up on 7. A second person can pick up some different things.
I am not a fan of ‘descriptive’ tasting notes that tell you want someone else smells and tastes. In my tasting room, I NEVER post notes other than to let folks know how I make the wine, where the grapes are from, how long I age in barrels, etc. I find that by reading tasting notes, one of two things invariably happens - 1) you are ‘happy’ that you got what someone else got (even if you didn’t but the power of suggestion is SOOO strong or 2) you feel bad that you did not. BOTH of these are just so wrong IMHO . . .
@tercerowines I just taste a wine and decide if I like it or not. Add food to mix things up. Save for day 2-3 to taste evolution. I dont worry about how to describe all the flavors involved. Maybe one day, after I drink enough wine, Ill be able to tell the differences between the flavors more. Who knows.
I like wine communities like this because they involve people that I can come to know and trust. If these people say that they like a wine, that means much more to me than the tasting notes of some snob that I have never met before. This becomes even more valuable when you find people who have similar tastes to you.
How about including a map in the notes showing us where any given wine is grown/produced?
