The Syrah, Grenache, and Carignane grapes are hung for the intention of the whole cluster pressing for Rosé. Just a couple hours of skin contact ensures a salmony pink Rosé coloring and just a hint of body structure from skin tannins. Light in body and crisp in texture from the stainless steel fermentation and aging. A perfect Summer accompaniment.
The Grenache and Carignane you can watch ripen on the Estate Vineyard and the Syrah comes from our family-owned Vineyard in the El Pomar AVA.
Bringing J Dusi into the public realm of the wine industry has been a life-long dream for me. I grew up living on the vineyard, participating in grape farming, and begging for my Grandfather to teach me the winemaking process.
My first vintage was when I was sixteen. My Grandfather guided me through the process from the recollection of the days when his family ran the original “Dusi Winery” back in the '50s. I learned, from him, the REAL Italian way to make wine, which happened to be a slight variation of today’s California style wines.
My Great-Grandparents, Sylvester and Caterina Dusi settled into Paso Robles in the early twenties. They had three sons; Guido, Dante, and Benito Dusi. They were active proprietors in many local businesses including vineyards, farming, restaurants, and Dusi Winery. I was born and raised in the vineyard that my Grandfather Dante, his father and two brothers planted in 1945. As vineyards were rare in the area at that time, Zinfandel was the Italian varietal of choice. They implemented the farming practices of head-pruned vines and no irrigation, dry farming. Today, 65 years later, we still carry on their farming traditions and uphold one of the areas most loved vineyards. Dusi grapes can be found in some of the most sought after Zinfandels in Paso Robles.

There were monkies around my house last night. They didn’t email me in advance to let me know they were coming. They left a bottle of this. We had plans last night and today. I will do my best to try this later today. If I can’t fit it in today, will definitely be able to open it tomorrow. Sorry for the delay.
I hope this offer is in addition to, rather than instead of, a J Dusi Pinot Grigio offer. That is our favorite PG and we’re running low! I did grab a case of this Rosé, though (sorry NE OH, I am greedily keeping the whole thing).
Based on previous experience with the PG and their wonderful Zins along with the killer price point and fantastic video, resistance was futile!
@chipgreen Thank you so much for enjoying the J Dusi wines, yes the Pinot Grigio is a hot favorite… but this Rose is a great balance of the crispness like the PG but a little more layers and texture than the PG. I hope you enjoy it!

Three more cheers for logistics and the guys in brown! The wine is a bright salmon with golden glints, like the frozen sky in winter.
Fairly slowly falls down the glass in sheets. At 55F it smells like Viognier, powerful honeysuckle, maybe a subtle touch of melon or strawberry. Fairly complex aroma for a rosé. Bright on the palate, with warm overtones. Honey, which gives the impression of sweetness though I wouldn’t call it sweet. Medium length with bright acidity that is refreshing though not bracing or austere.
My wife says “At first glance it was pastel pink, but upon further reflection has an amber hue. It smells like pear, and is sticky sweet and floral on the tongue, like how I imagine hyacinth tasting if it tasted the way it smells. It has a mineral note, like crushed sea shells (not that I’ve ever eaten them)”
It was good with spicy chicken quesadilla; it mellows the spice. Would probably pair with a range of lighter fare, even spicy Thai or Indian food. I noticed a bit of red fruit and a touch of something bready, almost like crème brêlée as it warms in the glass. Do yourself a favor, drink this one at room temp! Thanks to WCC and J Dusi for giving me the opportunity to taste this bottle, to Ariana for sending me something out of my comfort zone, and to UPS for delivering right on schedule. Salut!
I’m in. Love the J Dusi Pinot Grigio and hoping to feel the same abut this Rosé. We bought a boat several months ago and I briefly considered naming it “Rosé All Day”, but decided that was used way too much already. That said, I decided that Rosé would be my official boat wine and Casemates has been offering plenty to help me with that. Cheers!
I am mostly a red wine drinker with that being said ordered the Virage Rose and really enjoy it. Anyone know how this compares? Yes, I see this is Syrah versus the Virage being more Cab Franc. Thx!
@losthighwayz me too. Like I said in the report, it tastes like there is the “essence of sweetness” without actually being sweet. Hey @JDusiWines, do you have the specs handy?
I had this bottle show up yesterday and opened it up yesterday with dinner which was fortunate since I didn’t know it would be last nights offer.
2018 J Dusi rose Paso Robles
It’s primarily Syrah with a little Grenache and carignane thrown in. At 13.2% alcohol it’s not a heavy hitter. Color wise it’s a pretty pale pink, has a young medium intensity nose. Primary notes are fresh picked strawberries, melon, maybe cantaloupe to be more specific. Maybe some lemon. Straight Out of the fridge it’s very tart and fruity, as it warmed it seemed to pick up some weight and actually a little bit of funk.
The wine is dry, medium bodied, it’s tart with minimum but dry tannins. It’s balanced, maybe slightly tart for my taste.
The weight is more similar to a viognier than a lighter rose. I enjoyed this wine quite a bit and so did my bride. I think it’s a at least worthy of a 6 pack purchase.
@losthighwayz it’s a little heavier than the other recent roses ive had here recently but without being over extracted. Feels like what a Syrah based rose should taste/feel like. Hard to compare.
Interesting - “cellared and bottled by…”. Are these grapes from the estate, some addition of bulk juice or wine from somewhere, or just chose not to put “produced by…” on the label?
Yes, the grapes are from the winery property and all vineyards that we own and farm ourselves for this Rosé. But my winery is small, and I produce this at our other facility with a large stainless steel tank who also has a bottling line for screw caps. So it is bottled u see their bond, and legally I cannot write produced on the bottle if it is moved off site for bottling.
Sorry this is going to be super short. Will follow up tomorrow.
PNP straight from the fridge
Color: Beautiful pale salmon
Aroma: Muted apricot with a hint of strawberry
Taste: all the flavors were kind of muted and blended together. Peach, strawberry and honey.
Mouth feel: best description I can give is like when you eat a peach that is not quite ripe. That tart yet sweet feeling. There is perceived sweetness, but I would not call this a sweet wine.
Overall impression. I liked it. Light, crisp and refreshing.
I’ll post more tomorrow. Dropping this off with family to try.
Thanks WD and Ariana for allowing the monkeys to come visit!
Update:
I left half a glass on the counter after my initial tasting. (We were on our way to go see Lewis Black ) when we got home the wine has been sitting out for about 5 hours. This time it tasted like honey that had been drizzled on a peach and the juices that run off of that. If that makes any sense? Mom said it had a bit of tartness, but not in a bad way. She enjoyed it, and she is not a big rose person.
I have half a bottle in my fridge and will tey it again tomorrow, hopefully I will have more time.
I will probably order some. It will be great for the summer by the pool.
Decided to take advantage of the $144 case special on the Pinot Grigio at J Dusi’s website. Shipping (at least to Ohio) kills the deal a little but $16.75/bottle delivered to my door is still a good price for such an enjoyable quaffer!
Seeing as how I now have 2 cases of J Dusi on the way, I am willing to part with up to 4 each of the Rose and PG for any of the usual NE OH suspects…
I missed a surprise shipment since we were away in San Diego, I’ll find out tomorrow if this was it. If it is I apologize for being the worst lab rat ever! In for a case since I always like J Dusi and roses tend to just disappear in my house. While I love them our 22/23 yo friend/roommate really really likes them.
@klezman no worries, I’ll catch you next time.
So my surprise order was a delivery for a wine that had already been delivered. It also had a different packaging paper than the wine that was actually in the box. I’ll reach out to support I guess. No lab rat for me which also means no feeling guilty!
The combination of my work friends being on a Rosé-drinking tear this winter and my imminent need for more good boxes to hold the many bottles of wine I’ll be hauling out of the office by the end of March, plus the fact that the other J. Dusi I had from here was so enjoyable, all lead to the inevitable…

Somebody needs a flogging!
As soon as I read that, I knew it was wrong!
@MarkDaSpark I haven’t the slightest idea what winery description from the front page of the website you are referring to
@ThomasF
They fixed it. Duh.
Anyone need a couple of bottles?

@losthighwayz me too. Like I said in the report, it tastes like there is the “essence of sweetness” without actually being sweet. Hey @JDusiWines, do you have the specs handy?
@KitMarlot @losthighwayz YES!
The residual sugar is low of 1.75 g/l or less than 2%
PH is 3.3
TA is 7.1
Alc is 13.2%
@JDusiWines @KitMarlot thank you. How many cases were produced?
@losthighwayz
1200, in the specs at the top. 700 too many for you.

Nice report and really nice nail polish you’re wearing these days
@CorTot @ScottW58 I was thinking the same thing about the nail polish
@CorTot can you compare to other roses on here like Ped, Virage, etc?
@klezman @ScottW58 I let my wife pick the color!
@losthighwayz it’s a little heavier than the other recent roses ive had here recently but without being over extracted. Feels like what a Syrah based rose should taste/feel like. Hard to compare.
