Looking for potential Casemates in Flushing NY and northwestern Nassau County
3I live near the Auburndale LIRR station and work a few miles south of it, so heading into the city (Manhattan for those who don’t speak NY) is a PITA and something I generally avoid.
I have almost everything shipped to my job and have never had a problem receiving a wine shipment from WW, CH, etc.
If you are looking for a Casemate in this area, let me know.

I think this is awesome!
@baqui63 You might consider me a little too far for you, but I live by Farmingdale Station in Nassau and I’m up for finding some potential Casemates too.
@alchyilee Not next door but not all that far either. The 26ish miles out to you is usually much easier than the 12ish miles west to the East River.
(Hell, driving the 3ish miles west to the Home Depot in Flushing and back can take well over an hour on a weekend. Flushing really needs to start enforcing the “don’t block the box” rules and increase the fines, say to something like $250 for a first offense, then $500, $1000, $2000, etc. This would solve all of our municipal money problems within a few weeks and make traffic move more smoothly as well. /rant-with-apologies)
@baqui63
I kept a car in Manhattan once.
Yeah. Insane.
Where you are, I think having one is very close to a torturous and excruciating necessity.
No NYC area driver goes unpunished.
@f00l With one exception*, keeping a car where I live (~12 miles east of Manhattan) is no more a problem than anywhere else in the USA, tho insurance costs are a bit higher here than some places.
Without a car, my 3.5ish mile (one-way) commute for work would take about 90 minutes longer each day and cost $10-$15/week more (depending on gasoline prices). Plus life would suck greatly for shopping and other things.
*That problem is that I don’t have a garage or parking spot, which is especially annoying when there is more than ~5-6 inches of accumulated snow. However, the problem is greatly mitigated by the lack of alternate side rules in my immediate area and the LIRR station 2.5 blocks away. (After ~5:30 PM on a weekday and all weekend there is plenty of parking within three blocks of my door.)
@baqui63
I did alt side parking on the Lower East Side (near Houston and Alphabet City), for close to 5 years.
My battery got stolen a lot. The radio, a POS, only once.
They didn’t take the car tho, till nearly the end.
Guess they wouldn’t have looked very cool jacking a Pinto.
I lived in Manhattan for a few years when I first moved to NY, close to that grafittied mansion at the end of Spring St. We left my fiance’s car on long island at his mom’s and just got it when we actually we’re going to need it, sucked but sucked less than parking… now my friends from where I grew up just moved to Manhattan a few months ago and took up my offer of having them park at my house instead within 2 weeks haha.
Hope you’re staying warm today with the blizzard
@alchyilee I was warm until I went out to dig out my car and move it around to make sure it wouldn’t get frozen in. I’ll need it tomorrow night to pick up daughter unit 2, aka @miraclewhispers, at JFK. Otherwise I won’t need my car until Monday because the Robotics tournament scheduled for Saturday was postponed due to the bomb cyclone.
Have to figure out how to ehem… reserve… my parking spot while I’m away, though I doubt I’ll be able to.
I’m in Suffolk County on Lawn Guyland, if anyone is looking for a Casemate out east.
@heartny I was about to look that up in google maps when my brain kicked in.
@baqui63 It comes up if you just Google it. Not sure it’s on the map
@heartny An actual maps search finds several businesses with lawn and guy in their names.
@heartny Gosh you can tell I’m not originally from here XD took me a full 5 mins for the brain to process ahaha. --Anyhow depending on how far east you are we might be able to meet up for split cases or what not; I work in Haupphauge, and live by the county line
@alchyilee I live east of Hauppauge, but work in Melville, so maybe we will be able to work something out.
@alchyilee, @heartny My accountant used to be in Melville and then moved out to Hauppauge, though the last few years we’ve been doing everything via email and the company’s portal.
Regardless, I’m not opposed to schlepping out to Melville or even Hauppauge on occasion and if we can meet in the middle, say Westbury or Hicksville, it makes it easier for me. If we avoid rush hours, driving out to Melville is easier than driving into Manhattan.
@baqui63 I grew up in Hicksville. We can meet at Ikea. Lol
@heartny lol… I was actually thinking that if we met in/near Hicksville, it would give me a chance to wander around in Ikea as well as trade wine, etc.
Man, get a nice Riesling and some spicy szechuan take-out while you’re at it. I’m gonna have to say “no” until I move back to the states.
@simtel20 I’d likely prefer a Gewurztraminer but Rieslings are good too.
I wasn’t much of an (alcohol) drinker until after I married at 22 and my ex-wife’s (French!) parents hail from Alsace. I cut my wine teeth on good to great Reislings, Gewurztraminers and other wines specific to that region. A good Hugel Gewurztraminer is still one of my favorites, tho I’ve not had one in way too long.
@alchyilee, @heartny
Any interest in splitting a case of this first Casemates offering?
I’m up to four to six bottles, so a two or three way split could work. I’ll check for responses periodically until about 8 PM. I’m willing to front the cash (credit) for this on either of your say-so, so let me know.
If I don’t hear, I’m in for a four pack.
Duh… @alchyilee, @heartny I just recalled that Casemates deals are good for two days, so make that “I’ll check periodically until 8PM tomorrow…”
@baqui63 Oops, sorry for the delay in responding. I think I’m going to pass on this one. Hopefully you decided to order a four pack by now. I guess our trip to Ikea will have to wait a little longer
@heartny Not a problem, as Casemates deals are up for at least two days, so I can afford to wait until tonight.
Given the rave reviews of this wine, I may just spring for a whole case, regardless of whether @alchyilee replies or not. (My issue isn’t really the $$ but rather temp controlled storage space, which is basically full.)
@baqui none for me this time either
Got a label set up for forum alerts now on my email, so next time I should be able to reply quicker
@alchyilee Cool. I went for a four pack.
