Cherry, blackcurrant, some spices, and garrigue notes. The attack is fruit-driven, dominated by cherry, and the tannins are very gentle and well built in. Pleasant roundness and elegance on the finish.
Elaboration
The harvest is done during the night to limit oxidation. The grapes are destemmed and crushed, followed by a pre-fermentation at low temperature to extract more primary aromas. The extraction of aromas and tannins are enhanced by cap punching and pumping over of the juice
The vines are planted close to the Pont du Gard the famous aqueduct built by the Romans about 2000 years ago, at the edge of the RhĂ´ne Valley and the Languedoc.
Limited amounts of fertilizers are used, only to maintain a balance in the soil, and when required by the vines. This is based on soil and leaf analysis.
The yield is kept at a low level in order to have a high-quality of grape. This is done by hedging, leaf-thinning, and green harvesting

About The Winery
Winery: Domaine le Clos des Lumières
Location: Fournès, France
Domaine le Clos des Lumières is a 50-hectare family farm founded in 1946 by the grandfather of the domaineâs current vigneron, GĂŠrald Serrano. The ambitious and talented GĂŠrald Serrano is solely responsible for the recent âcoming outâ of this estate â Prior to taking things over in 2003 GĂŠraldâs father was selling all grapes on the estate to the local cooperative.
Having grown up on the property, GĂŠrald is intimately familiar with the terroir here. The oldest vines now edge 60 years in age and this land really seems to âpack the character in.â Weâve sold massive amounts of Rhone wine over the last forty years, and these are the most well-received Cotes du Rhone values weâve carried in our history.

Good day and good evening! My schedule being a little hectic meant that we needed to try this immediately after it fell off the truck.
I enjoy Rhone wines a lot, so seeing an IGP Gard made me look forward to trying this out. The bottle doesnât give clues to a blend, but i have a sneaking suspicion after the first sip.
Strawberry, pomegranate, orange rind, touch of ashiness. Iâm gonna say a heavy go of Grenache. Probably some other Southern Rhone staples in there, but this is Grenache (and it looks like the notes here have a blend so i was right!!).
Itâs a touch hot on alcohol. Great acid drive and a good balance of tannin. We had this with Impossible Burgers and it worked well with that. It was great after dinner without food, but it would absolutely pair better with something to munch on. Itâs almost a little high acid.
We opened this immediately upon receipt so it was a little cloudy but showed extremely well. I waited about 36 hours to take the beauty shot and it had definitely declined â more gritty, maybe some oxidation, but less âcleanâ. Drink up now! And really at this price itâs a deal.

2019 Ma Vie IGP Rouge Pays du Gard - $30 = 21.43%
It is always an unexpected treat to get Aliceâs email notifying that wine is on the way. Iâm sure someone famously said, âI never met a bottle I didnât like.â and thatâs usually the case for me with the curated selections from Casemates.
I tend to lean towards Cabs, Syrah, and the occasional Malbec, so I was surprised and interested to get this IGP Gard, having very few experiences with this blend.
On first open it presented fruity, but the aroma quickly dissipated to something more neutral. It poured lighter in color than I expected. I got a different scent when I poured it into the glass, slightly more acidic than sweet.
If youâre going to read anything in this short review, read this: THIS IS GOOD. REALLY GOOD.
My first taste was smooth, silky and slightly dry. It has a light body and an exceptionally clean finish. I immediately wanted more. Mind you, I didnât even let this breathe. About 20 minute later, it smoothed out even further, strengthening its already positive attributes. This is good. Highly drinkable and would pair great with meat, cheese, heck, this would go great with a bowl of Doritos. Itâs that good.
Iâm notoriously bad at guessing wine prices but Iâd pay about $25 a bottle for this gem. Donât wait on this. Iâm not sure it carries the whole distinctive notes of tobacco and shoelaces and whatnot, but I can tell you it is wonderfully balanced and can stand alone or enhance just about any food choice.

REALLY GOOD.
Well⌠that comment knackered the BS Meter. And itâs not yet April 1.
@PaleMongo temperature can play a role in oxidation. Harvesting and processing in cooler temperatures could reduce the chances.
Looks interesting. Love wines from the southern Rhone and Grenache based. Iâm in. Great Lab Rat reports.

@pupator This was the least âproblematicâ of 5 tries. Wow.
Finally got around to trying this, worth every penny. Easy drinker!
