This Viognier explodes with freshness, vibrancy, and sunshine. The tropical aromas of honeysuckle, white peach, and dried apricot invite flavors of meyer lemon and honey-crisp apple.
Viognier is a very aromatic wine that originally hails from the RhĆ“ne Valley in Southern France. At the Zaca Mesa Vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley, the grape is farmed to perfection before itās crafted into a luscious, bone-dry wine that makes the perfect aperitif.
Vintage and Winemaker Notes
The old world informs Gregās motivation to make wines that speak of a unique vineyard in California. Greg loves wines that have a vibrant acidity combined with bright fruit and that intangible, hard to pinpoint X factor. Mass produced wines that are squeaky clean and uniform are less interesting. Starting with healthful and sustainably farmed grapes, Greg combines creative fermentation techniques with an artistic blending prior to bottling to produce wines that are distinctive and delicious. Gregās intention is to make remarkable wines of consequence, consistency, value, and varietal expression. Several of the wines are sourced from organic vineyards and produced with native yeast fermentations. Martellotto wines are allocated, bottle numbered, vineyard designate wines and a pleasure to share. We invite you to explore each of our wines and find the ones that āspeakā to you.

2017 Martellotto Viognier - $30 = 19.99%
ā¦every once in a while, WineDavid throws me a bone. Or a bottle. He knows that iām partial to Rhones, white or red, so I guess thatās why he threw me this one. Iām glad he did.
This is a pretty, juicy Viognier. It has a nice, aromatic nose of peaches and cream. On the palate, a blend of stone fruit and citrus. Delightful acidity make this one food friendly for sure (though Iām sipping it on itās own). Viognier is typically a low-acid grape (especially domestic Vio) so itās nice to find one that has some acid. And so often domestic producers throw ample new wood at Rhone varietals which is a departure from traditional Rhone winemaking. Iām glad to see that Martellotto kept this one in neutral and stainless.
Quality juice here folks. Drinks like a $25-$30 bottle. Silly at $12.50.
ā¦and full disclosure, I worked with Martellotto wines back when I worked with WineDavid at that other site whoās name escapes me (cough, woot). I was impressed then and Iām impressed now.
@jmruru Probably nothing. Iām fortunate enough to have a nice stash of wine to drink and to cellar. My first Casemates order was May 2018, then nothing until October 2018. My most recent order was May 2019. (10 cases in that time span, shared 1) I donāt anticipate ordering again until next October. Just not a fan of shipping in warm weather from any source.
@winedavid49 Speaking of shipping, not ordering but started an order to see how the shipping works. I notice 3 delivery options. Standard (which is refrigerated to hub correct?), Ice plus fast shipping, and ice plus fast delivery. What are the differences and charges?
Also, when I first started an order, all 3 options were available. Then 10 minutes later, 4 bottle options were standard and ice plus fast shipping but no ice plus fast delivery, and the 12 bottle options were standard and ice plus fast delivery but no ice plus fast shipping.
@kaolis In the order window after I selected my lot size and shipping option, it shows the total charge at the top of the screen. When I put in a case and selected standard shipping, it showed $119.99. When I changed the shipping to āice plus fast deliveryā it changed the total to $134.99. (It goes without saying, but Iām going to say it anyway, the summer shipping option is a $15 charge.) HTH.
@chipgreen, @pjmartin, @mrn1, @marikar If it ever stops raining in NE OH for a week, we could declare summer has arrived! Ordered a case and may have 4 btls available as a case split for NE OH peeps! Waiting to hear from brother.
@Boatman72
Very hard to resist after reading Neilās notes but as you know, my current SWMBOWBM is stronger than my previous SIWBM.
That said, I am always willing to work a trade if I have something you want although I suspect you will get paying customers for this one if you have bottles available.
Also riding the cancellation train.
On the plus side, that frees up at least a little room in the cellar for another offer in the coming weeks. Sadly, missed out on the Meeker.
@Scottw2 Thank you so much for letting me knowā¦yes there is a pending charge on my sadly low bank account balanceā¦I hope someone is still working down there who can fix it.
Yep disappointed, I too am seeing a pending charge on my card. Was assuming it was a pending refund? Just sucksā¦was really looking forward to this white!!!
Wait, what? Iām thinking the seller dug up some more wine for us whiners. Just got a new order confirmation??
Just need to remove the double charge and all is good, no?
Hi all, here is the letter sent via email explaining what happened:
Dear Casemate,
There was an error made in the cancellation of your order for the Martellotto Viognier.
Your order has been reinstated.
We sincerely apologize for the confusion and have added an additional $5 off coupon to your account. The previous $10 off coupon is yours to keep as well.
There were 14 people who actually did have their presets refunded due to a miscount of inventory by the winery. Very sorry to them and to all of you for the hassle!
I am seeing TWO charges on my CC. According to customer service a credit was issued when the original order was canceled, but as of this morning I see no evidence of that. Anyone else have a similar issue as of this moment?
@cathyk39 I saw the same on my CC billing, but when I looked at the section under payments and credits, the amount was included in the total. Itās just not separately broken out!! Hope that helps everyone!
Iād like to reassure everyone that we did issue refunds when the orders were originally canceled. Some banks take a few days for that to show in an account.
If you have any trouble, or issues as a result of this, please let me/us know via the Casemates Support Form and weāll make it right.

Should the producer stop byā¦
What was the other 80%?
What is the window of consumption for this? Any chance it might become more interesting/stay drinkable for a decade? Thanks!!

@neilfindswine Nice to see an old rat-a-round.
@neilfindswine Neil!
Good to see you here.
@rjquillin I prefer the term āvintageā.
@neilfindswine
As WD always says⦠āNeil is the man!ā
Cheers, friend!
@chipgreen greetings old friend!
I want to get this but I am not sure about the order choices. Standard or ice?
@jmruru June is a no ship month for me but if I were to order it would definitely be with ice.
@kaolis No ship month? What wine offering would make you break that promise?
@jmruru Probably nothing. Iām fortunate enough to have a nice stash of wine to drink and to cellar. My first Casemates order was May 2018, then nothing until October 2018. @kaolis @KitMarlot I appreciate all the help folks! This makes sense now.
@kaolis Do you know if I must keep these bottles refrigerated once I get them?
@jmruru @kaolis Nope! Just cellar as usual, and throw in the fridge an hour or two prior to consumption
@jmruru @nostrom0 as @nostrom0 says
Sounds lovely, in for a case! Iām taking a chance on regular shipping.

BTW, have you ever seen this?
@chipgreen Nope, never saw this before, cool!! And I do have a boat, but with all this rain, it sits covered!
@catcoland @noodles @lamplighter @schristopher524 Just went in for a case. Thanks, @neilfindswine for the rec. Buffalo peeps? Interested?
lucky-wordy-goat
@bahwm Iād be interested in up to 4!

Weāve been in a SIWBM this week, and I was we had plenty in the cellar. So guess what ā¦?

/giphy immature-offensive-neck
Oh noesācanceled order because not enough to go around. I was really looking forward to this.
And now a new order for the same wine, but dated today⦠Curious and curiouser! @jmruru
@drhellknow hmmmā¦nothing here
I too was kicked off the island
@jmruru But you would just feel worse if it was close
@jmruru You know I just checked my purchase email and it was pretty close to 2:00 A.M. ET when my order went through. Maybe the bottles were dropped.
@jmruru did it sell out originally?
@jmruru I did some snooping and the original order shows no states purchasing it. I assume their order fell through somehow.
@jmruru I noticed that the map seemed quite emptyāwasnāt sure what was causing that. Whatever it is/was, it stinks to not get the Viognier!
@drhellknow @jmruru Good catch on the map being blank. So, @winedavid49, shall we say Martellotto is dead to us, from here on in?
Same here, quite disappointing.
Yes, a bummer for sure.
Also riding the cancellation train.
On the plus side, that frees up at least a little room in the cellar for another offer in the coming weeks. Sadly, missed out on the Meeker.
If you were cancelled, check your bank. I was charged again today instead of a refund. currently I paid for 24 bottles & get zero?
+1. WTF Meh?!?
@Scottw2 Oh shitā¦that will cost me big time because my account will go in the negative. Casemates can you fix???
@Scottw2 Thank you so much for letting me knowā¦yes there is a pending charge on my sadly low bank account balanceā¦I hope someone is still working down there who can fix it.
@jmruru @Scottw2 We wonāt leave you hanging. If you havenāt written in about that yet, please do send a message to https://casemates.com/support and weāll get you sorted.
Sorry about the surprise hassle.
@Scottw2 @Thumperchick they are looking into it. Thanks. Glad we get the wine!
auto cancel and reorder here. curious to see how this plays outā¦
@jct9889 I never saw the refund on my accountā¦just the re-charge
@jmruru just looked again, 2 charges and no refunds
@jct9889 @jmruru Same here, two charges, no refund. This is really not promising, especially without explanation.
Same here, two charges and no refund. I was hoping they were able to fulfill the order but doesnāt seem likely.
Has anyone contacted Support?
@InFrom I sent a message two hours agoā¦no reply yet
So far (at least in my account), itās an authorization, not an actual charge. Iāll wait to see how things wash out tomorrow.
But Iām happy to get the juice.
@por944sche same thing here. Iām hopeful
@por944sche I hope you are correct!
As long as I donāt get a 28.00 overdraft fee
Hi all, here is the letter sent via email explaining what happened:
There were 14 people who actually did have their presets refunded due to a miscount of inventory by the winery. Very sorry to them and to all of you for the hassle!
Iāll be checking in later.
Only 14 from the lot? Pretty good odds! However, we seemed to be in the unlucky 14. Lesson learned- buy early!
Travel day and all hell breaks loose!
@Winedavid49 I know the feeling!
Here is a screenshot of the letter. Apologies for any inconvenience and as always, feel free to let us know if you have any questions
So is the pending charge on our cards going to go away?
@jmruru I guess Iām paying $28.00 more than everyone else for this
@jmruru Both the refund and the recharge cleared my account this morning.
I am seeing TWO charges on my CC. According to customer service a credit was issued when the original order was canceled, but as of this morning I see no evidence of that. Anyone else have a similar issue as of this moment?
@cathyk39 Yep, same for me. Iām sure Winedavid is working on this as we type.
@cathyk39 I saw the same on my CC billing, but when I looked at the section under payments and credits, the amount was included in the total. Itās just not separately broken out!! Hope that helps everyone!
I currently have two charges on my card for this order as well.
yes, it will settle out. Please let support know if thereās any collateral damage. and cc me in at david@winecountryconnect.com.
very sorry for the hassle.
@Winedavid49 That means that in the past coupla weeks Iāve received $15 in CM coupons and $5 over at Meh (for cancelled socks).
Iām almost tempted to place more orders now on a āspecā basis, betting that Iāll get more cancellation coupons.
And if the order does go through, Iāll just have to drink to my fate.
Iād like to reassure everyone that we did issue refunds when the orders were originally canceled. Some banks take a few days for that to show in an account.
If you have any trouble, or issues as a result of this, please let me/us know via the Casemates Support Form and weāll make it right.
My refund showed up this morning. Canāt wait to try the wine!
