Morningsave - WFH Wine
1I was surprised to see a wine over on Morningsave.
Anyone know anything about it, or want to talk about its merits? I’m intrigued by the varietals in the blend. From the site:
The strength of the Paso Robles region to offer wonderful blends is clearly demonstrated in this wine. The combination of the fruit profiles from Grenache, Petite Sirah and Syrah really bring this wine to bear. The concentration of flavors creates a powerful presence while still maintaining sophistication and balance. The blend is both well-structured and harmonious. Layers of fruit continue to emerge as the wine opens up, revealing more and more of the wine’s personality.
Viognier is used as the ‘glue’ that binds these varieties together. Its co-fermentation with Syrah adds depth to the texture and produces a seam-less palate that enhances the dark and red fruits offered by each different grape.
The wine is bright and very fruit forward but continues to deliver right through the middle palate. We chose to allow firmer tannins to emerge to assist in ensuring a clean and balanced finish.

You had me until the residual sugar.
@sandbarhappy
candied
Actually quite popular with the younger crowd.
@sandbarhappy I’ve not yet spent enough time interpreting details like that. In fact, I wouldn’t have expected this wine to taste sweet given its varietals, but does that mean it’s going to taste sweet? more like a zin?
@vaaccess That’s a lot of RS. It really helps the mouthfeel and can help cover some flaws. I’m much happier when the wine is 2.5 or below; the sugar leaves an aftertaste in my mouth. I note this is early in Broken Earth’s formal winemaking.
I’d hazard a guess that it is on Morningstar because it wasn’t expected to do well on Casemates.
@sandbarhappy @vaaccess Actually it was featured on meh a couple of weeks ago.
@InFrom @sandbarhappy DOH! Didn’t realize. Appreciate the assist.
/giphy Thanks
@sandbarhappy @vaaccess
@sandbarhappy @vaaccess It’s a lot of RS, yes, but it’s not going to taste sweet. 0.7% is perceptible as sugar to many but not to all. Once you’re above 1.2% or so you get in to the off-dry range. This RS level is comparable to some of the vintages of InZinerator that Scott Harvey makes.
@klezman
Funny that you mentioned the InZinerator, the one Scott Harvey wine I did not like!
@vaaccess Same. And the red label wines for a few years in there also had the Forte addition that I didn’t like. I stay away from InZinerator and the One Last Kiss wines from him.
Angel Eis, otoh…
I enjoy broken earth wines. Used to be a club member with them when I had more money to spend on wine. Their wines are made to be drunk, and usually quite good depending on the style you like. Definitely crowd pleasers but not profound wines. Also they can be unconventional which is nice.
