Tesoro (meaning Treasure) is a proprietary blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah.
Led by its striking dark crimson hue, this Super Tuscan style wine opens with aromas of ripe berries and black fruits, interwoven with hints of vanilla, caramel, raw tobacco, leather, clove, blood orange peel, and roasted walnuts. On the palate, the rich and generous flavors of briary blackberry, dark cherry, ripe plum, cassis, and red pear are enhanced with nuances of wild sage, cinnamon, black pepper, dark chocolate, and a kiss of fine oak. As the wine opens in the glass, the smooth velvety texture is balanced with bright acidity, supple tannins, and firm structure. The result is a stylish proprietary blend that is robust, elegant, and showy in its youth, and strengthened by layers of complexity, natural richness, and backbone that will allow the personality of the wine to expand in the cellar.
To honor his family heritage of drinking fine red wines in Italy, Michael Muscardini uses the revered Italian varietal Sangiovese as the core grape in his proprietary red blend, Tesoro (“Treasure” in Italian). To add a personalized touch and a California twist to the finished wine: the other half of the blend is comprised of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, two noble red grape varieties from France, which perform extremely well in the rocky soils and warm climate conditions in Sonoma Valley. This commitment to quality and attention to detail is once again showcased in this outstanding vintage.

Home of handmade, limited edition Sonoma Valley Wines. Our award-winning wines offer the best of the California Wine Country…
Through Muscardini Cellars, the Muscardini family shares their zest for life and profound appreciation for the fruit of the vine with the Muscardini Cellars artisan wines. The mission of Muscardini Cellars is to culminate the knowledge, tradition and respect of more than a century of family experience in the industry with wines that artfully capture flavor and spirit.
It has taken me some time to finally continue and expand upon my grandfather’s tradition in winemaking, but after owning and managing a construction company, Creative Spaces, for 27 years, the time was right. With family and friends, and blessed by Monsignor O’Hara from St. Leo’s Church, I planted our first Sangiovese vines in May of 2000.
As the grapes grew, my son, Gian Carlo, and I built our family home at “Monte Terra.” After moving into our new home on May 12, 2001, I began to study winemaking from two local winemakers and took numerous related courses at UC Davis and Sonoma State University.
With our Sangiovese grapes ready to harvest in 2002, I took our first crop and my new winemaking knowledge and jumped in with both feet (less shoes). Now, with a number of harvests from both Monte Terra and other growers ~ some of the best in Sonoma County ~ behind me, I had honed my skills and won numerous awards, including two Best of Class awards and two Best of Show for my organically grown Sangiovese.
From my family to your family, drink and enjoy, for life is short and wine is alive.

Love me some super Tuscan! Looking forward to the rats as the “aromas” and “palate” descriptions seem like they used all the wine words they could find.
Not going to “faux rat” the Tesoro, but have tried several vintages and it is one of my favorite red blends. I do not have a lot of experience with Super Tuscan style wines in general or actual Super Tuscan wines to compare, but I know that I like this wine a lot. FWIW.
Happy Saturday… and it kind of is, Packers lost…so sad…on to the wine!
Enthusiast:
89 points. This generous, well-structured blend based on Sangiovese frames its nicely ripe blackberries and black cherries in moderate tannins. Subtle toast and baking spice notes keep it interesting from the aroma through the finish. — Jim Gordon 12/1/22
2022 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition: Gold
And let us not overlook the Sommelier Files who noted that at the 2024 Sonoma International Film Festival (SIFF) this received 95 points and Double Gold
Hang on, not quite done…Red Wine Please! (?) in December '22 had this to say:
“…this vintage is medium dark ruby in color, with a nose including berries, some plum and a touch of savory from the Syrah. Brisk tannins frame a medium+bodied wine. At first the aromas and flavors are a bit restrained but they open quickly, which we really appreciated later that night at dinner (we brought a bottle of Tesoro with us). This has a nice long finish and is a very enjoyable wine.”
Not so fast, this baby made the rounds, at the 2022 Sunset International Wine Competition, Sonoma County, June 07, 2022:
98 points (was Luca Marconi judging…ha!) Pronounced black fruit, black cherry, spice, licorice, peppery. Oak is well integrated with the fruitiness, acidity is pleasant.
That’s it, my machine is warmed up, time to pull a few…

2019 Muscardini Tesoro Proprietary Red Blend - $80 = 24.23%
Love Muscardini. Purchased from here back in 2020 and subsequently visited the winery and ended up joining their wine club. Tesoro isn’t our favorite of their offerings, likely because we aren’t big fans of Syrah (which makes up 22% of this blend). But at this price it is a no brainer, less than 1/2 of the club discounted price. I’m in for a case, but and happy to split it 6/6 with any in SF or nearby Bay Area who might be interested. LMK. Thanks.
@coolac5 Sure. I’ll let you know when I receive the wine and if you happen to be coming through SF we can make arrangements for you to grab however many you want.
Any help with info on oak treatment? (such as % new/old, French/American/Slovenian) Also, given the blend composition, what should we infer regarding this wine’s lineage within the style? Finally, what’s the estimated aging potential? (Thanks.)
@takethefarm Since Muscardini is my old stopping grounds, I checked in with Michael and here’s what he texted:
Predominately all French barrels - 25% new. Generally aging the wine for 2 years in barrels.
Cellar: 10-15 years
Thanks as always to Alice and the team for letting me labrat this weekends offer. I am on vacation this week, extending Labor Day into a week long period of R & R so apologies for my tardiness.
With that said, duties called so I head into the office early today to pick up today’s rare Muscardini Super Tuscan offering.
I placed in my fridge to chill for a couple hours.
Initial pop and pour, oak on the nose but also dark fruit on taste. Has a delightful dark crimson color. After settling for about 20 minutes to room temperature, the oak completely mellows on the nose. Red plum, bramble, herbacious, this is a really tasty Sangio / Cab Sauv / Syrah blend.
I paired the initial tasting with some left over steak for lunch today, and found the Tesoro to be complimentary. I could also see myself enjoying this after dinner as well, as it is a very easy sipper. Tremendous aging potential as well considering it is 26% Cab Sauv.
This is a smoking offer with retail @ $62!
I knew I had this wine before so combed thru all my old orders and finally found June 3, 2010 on the old wine.woot site-it was priced the same then and was well worth it as I am sure it will be again. Looking forward to this one!

@mattykillpatty it was previously offered here in 2020 and has good reviews but a different vintage

@chipgreen For what it’s worth… I appreciate your psuedo-rattage.
@chipgreen @ecue And having Tesoro follow tercero could get confusing!
Been a long time since we last saw Muscardini!
@klezman very glad to see them back. This is a one case or two decision here
