A fruity, youthful wine bursting with flavors of cherry, cranberry, pomegranate, and a touch of vanilla & clove. This is a light & dry Pinot from Chile with a splash of Tempranillo that adds a fun spicy touch! It’s delicious with a little chill on it and we also love that it’s made with organic & biodynamic grapes by heritage micro-growers. Very different from typical CA Pinots this will definitely please anyone who appreciates a dryer Pinot Noir with no oak!
Food pairing: Check the back label Pizza, grilled meat & veggies
Vineyards
Two remote, cool climate coastal vineyards within 20km from the ocean benefitting from Humboldt breezes and clockwork fogs.
Pinot Noir vineyard is in Casablanca Valley based on soils rich in iron, granite, and quartz that create fresh, aromatic wines of distinction.
Tempranillo vineyard is in Colchagua with a slightly warmer Mediterranean climate, 600ft elevation, and mosaic of granite, schist, and volcanic clay, creating light, spicy wines.
Deep-rooted, low-yielding vines using minimal irrigation and vert vendage for concentrated fruit
Winemaking
Female winemaker, Bernedetta Johnston
Pinot Noir: Whole cluster partial carbonic maceration, cool stainless-steel fermentation, and hand punch-downs.
Tempranillo: De-stemmed, 4-day cold soak, cool stainless-steel fermentation, hand punch-downs.

Obvious Wines is a collection of family estate wines crafted through sustainably farmed practices across vineyards in California, Chile, and France. Created by a reformed “wine-snob” originally from Champagne, France, founder Brice Baillie noticed a gap between an overall growing interest and love for Boutique, Vegan & Eco-friendly wines, yet a high level of intimidation towards selecting and discussing them.
In 2018, he decided to create an accessible and playful brand that still checked all the necessary boxes of high-quality, eco-conscious wine. So, he got to work cold-calling wineries in California to identify those who were open to partnerships and met his criteria. Eventually, he got a bite, and Obvious Wines was born.

@rjquillin Had a couple of bottles of this in the past but don’t have any in stock. Didn’t keep any notes but what I remember jibes with what the rats note below. This is an easy daily drinker, not complex, and won’t benefit from any aging. It’s pizza wine. That being said, not bad at this price point. I’ll likely go in for a few to restock the shelves. I like some of Obvious Wines other offerings and like the concept of what they’re doing bringing in wines from all over to the masses.

2020 Obvious Wines Nº03 Light & Lively Pinot Noir - $36 = 23.07%
In Summary: A dry, fruity Pinot Noir with a hint of spice. As this is still young, I found it better on day 2. Non complex and enjoyable as an everyday glass; and with smoked meats.
Bottle arrived while out of town so a quick message to Alice and all was well. Screw top made this easy. Being a 2020, I gave this a little air. Cranberry and cherry on the nose and palate alike. Taste a hint of spice on the finish, maybe clove. Tannins are resolved. Not complex. Found this a little heavier than other 2020 Pinots, which for me was a plus; possibly due to the Tempranillo influence? Traveling is exhausting so off to bed. Left on the counter overnight. Much better on day 2. Didn’t need food, but had a smoked Morgan Ranch tri-tip roast and this complimented the meat. I believe this would be enjoyable for get-togethers, as an everyday glass, and with smoked meats. Screw top makes this easy for non-wine drinkers. This is a drink now. I don’t see this aging. A big thanks to Alice, Obvious, and WCC.
I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to Rat again. As I opened the box, I couldn’t help but feel excited to discover a blend of Pinot and Tempranillo, a combination I had never encountered before. The wine displayed a ruby color when poured into the glass. The nose carried a distinct scent of cola. It had a light body and lacking noticeable tannic structure possessed a notably viscous texture. On the palate, I perceived a tartness accompanied by a spiciness and cherry flavor. Although pairing it with skirt steak for dinner did improve it to some extent, as the steak’s fat helped balance the acidity, I must be honest and say that this particular wine did not appeal to me. Its mouthfeel felt too insubstantial, and its uninteresting flavor profile left me wanting more. This is a pass for me.

@jermfish Appreciate your review, especially your candid last sentence
Not a comment about this offer, but … Carrotblanca - THANKS. Had not seen it before and its poor cousin Casablanca is one of my favorites.
