This wine is dark garnet red in color with distinctive black currant and plum aromas lingering with nuanced cedar, violets, leather, and cigar box notes. The mid-palate is an enveloping soft berry cobbler with brown sugar, nutmeg, and a lengthy smooth finish. Enjoy now and for years to come.
Sounds like a fun blend, but jus taking a quick glance, and not taking a lot of time, I cannot really tell where the fruit is from, who the wine maker is, or really, who the Winery is?
@Leatherchair I think I answered part of the question with slightly better reading. Second label from a Sierra foothills winery. I can only think of one or maybe two up therethat produce cab franc and cab sauv
@Leatherchair I visit (wino ) friends in Amador often and have tasted at many wineries. While zinfandel immediately comes to mind for the Shenandoah Valley, El Dorado, etc., and even Barbera, Cab Sauv is actually the second most planted varietal in the area. I can say that almost every winery I’ve been to does a cab sauv, and many a cab franc. With something like 200 wineries in the region, it’s a fun new area to explore.
@mk22@rjquillin We must be talking about different locations. I lived in the area since 2002 and sold my house in Amador City in 2021 , but still visit My hobby was, and still the Shenandoah Valley wineries in Plymouth for the most part. They have world class fruit, but really Rhone fruit. Take a look at our friend Scott Harvey why he sources his fruit for his Cab (on the Jana label) from Napa, and he is truly the king of Amador in putting the region on his back and on the map. Ask the famous Ann Kreamer from Shake Ridge about all of her Rhone wines (no cabs) on the French Laundry menu, or maybe Larry Turley, whose zins and Rhone blends from Amador County, oh yeah, he does produce cabs - from Napa. Or even ask Jay Wilderotter, who recently sold his winery, why he only produced Rhone style wines from the region - but sourced his cab fruit form Rutherford. Or even ask Andy Erickson, who was a consulting winemaker for Casino Mines, why, even though a premiere wine maker - produced Rhone style wines from Amador - and gets his fruit from Ann Kraemer for his Favia label - for his rhone wines but sources his fruit for his cabs in Napa. In my opinion, the temperature in Amador Couty (Sierra foothills) just doesn’t cool down enough at night for great, or even good cabs, which explains why you walk into any tasting room there of the probably 60 + wineries, you will see Zin’s, Tempranillo, Syrah, Petit Sirah, Syrah, Primitivo, Barbera, grenache, GSM’s, Mourvèdre, and more Rhone wines, but you get the picture. Needless to say, few to no cabs will be on the menu- and if, for the slim chance they are they will likely be in a blend and won’t be great. With all that, does anyone know who produced the blend on this offering. It sounds intriguing.
I for one, was ready to move on from the 4th of July rosé all day! Thanks to Casemates, I had a great excuse to open one of my favorites – a red blend.
The Off The Press was impressive for the crazy good price point. A beautiful garnet color, with aromas of plum, black cherry, and subtle hints of vanilla and cedar. While it benefited from a little time to open up, from the start I got the jamminess I’d expect from a zin from the Sierra Foothills, but smoothed out by the merlot. On the palette, cranberry and pastry and a lovely long finish made this quite enjoyable.
I also like that at 13.6% ABV it’s a little lower in alcohol than many we get in northern California.
Can you say Tuesday-go-with-anything wine? This is that!

and a boatload of that CS moves out in bulk to Napa/Sonoma for blending, up to 15%, to still retain the Napa/Sonoma AVA.
@Leatherchair @rjquillin Exactly! While we’re still paying 100% Napa prices

@kaolis It appears to be a new site (6/22)and has low traffic.
@takethefarm has the same images and product as a legit site with regular pricing.

"If it’s too good to be true… "
@toddlamp So you’re telling me the $1000 bourbon order I placed with my Visa might not be delivered? Ha!
Kidding…
@kaolis Oh, I’m sure YOUR order will be filled, don’t worry. The rest of us are screwed though.
@kaolis @toddlamp @takethefarm
The “poof” powers of a volmod go only so far…
@kaolis @rjquillin @takethefarm @toddlamp But I imagine if you did place an order from that site, your payment would go “poof”.
@kaolis @rjquillin @takethefarm @toddlamp Too bad, I was going to try to order a fancy corkscrew from them.
@InFrom @kaolis @rjquillin @takethefarm @toddlamp I don’t care if it is a scam; the prices are just too good:

In for a case! Love a red blend with Mourvèdre. Roses will need to move over again!
