Apricot, white peach, Honeycrisp apple, geranium, lychee
Succulent stone fruits and dreamy aromatic herbs are the delightfully bold notes that characterize our 2021 Torrontés. Flavors of bright Honeycrisp apples, sweet lychees, and geraniums that have just bloomed round out the palate and have us reaching to pour another glass. The hints of fruit and flower make this bottle of Torrontés even more enjoyable when paired with fresh fish or dishes containing a bit of spice.

It was a welcome surprise to get an Alice Lab Rat email on Wednesday, as it has been a busy week with Mrs. Rat out of town and getting a very short notice of a job offer for our recent college graduate resulting in priority logistics to set get a relocation from IL to OR and getting housing secured. Needless to say, a rat bottle was very welcome.
The bottle arrived safely, if not a bit on the warm side, on Friday, so not a lot of time to get it cooled down and ready for tasting and review. Being solo, I’ve got a nice reserve for a Day 2 revisit that I’ll post mid-Saturday.
I was not familiar with Omega Road, and had to read up on the Livermore Valley. I don’t think I’ve ever had wine from there, but based on this example it will be on my list for future exploration. I keep wanting to capitalize “Gratia”, but I’ll do my best to keep it lower case as on the bottle. The bottle doesn’t show proportions of the blend but is listed as Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay. This fits well in the family of our preferred whites.
Bottom line: I truly enjoyed this wine. I expected it to be more like Sauvignon Blanc, but the Semillon really puts a different spin on it. And it’s got quite a bit more fruit and mouthfeel than a Chardonnay and more depth than a typical Sauv Blanc.
Presentation: Standard bottle without a capsule, overall nice low-key presentation. The cork pulled cleanly with slight crystallization but absolutely no sign of seepage. Alcohol is listed at 13.1%.
Appearance: Medium straw, the pictures show pretty accurately. A bit more dark honey color than the Cab Sauvs that we’ve had recently. Medium legs that took a short time to form in the glass.
Nose: Pop and pour with about 15 minutes of air. Served at 51°, the nose had definite tropical fruit, apricot and herbal on the nose.
First taste: Pineapple is noted by the vintner (what I took as tropical on the nose) it comes through nicely along with the apricot. This had a really nice mouthfeel- possibly assisted by yard work this afternoon. It was a bit more viscous than expected. As it warmed slightly, there was a bit of alcohol noted that quickly fades. More citrus also showed up. Nice lingering flavor on the palate too.
Food: My son cooked up some grilled Provolone /apple/prosciutto sandwiches which went very nicely with this wine. With June here, the strawberries are coming on in the garden, but they were not ideal. However, thin and crispy Moravian Meyer Lemon cookies were a fantastic match.
I did get some non-biased tasting from the cook, who isn’t a wine drinker but has great tasting abilities. He called out “appley and pineapple”.
Day 2 addition will be posted ASAP (but not as part of Saturday breakfast).
Final verdict: Semillon clearly adds something special to this blend, and I would be delighted to have this on hand as it was very good on it’s own, and should go well with all the typical Cab Sauv and Chard pairings. Nice depth of flavors. Mrs Rat really missed on the preview for this one.
@benguin986 Day 2 follow up— flavors are melded a bit more, and the nose was more pronounced (although that might have been due to the different glass as well).
Sorry there aren’t more folks in for this one so far. I’m doing my part to light up IL for this one.
Glad to see the winemaker on today too! Thank you!!

Excited as always to get the lab rat email but started to get worried when the Thursday delivery window passed and I got a notification it had been delayed, it showed up Friday with no issues.
Was really happy when I saw that this came in a 2 bottle box…wasn’t even sad that the second space had a glass instead of a bottle!
Nose - Apricot, slightly floral but not identifiable
Color - crystal clear, pale straw yellow
Palate- Faintly sweet, tart green grapes and apples that linger with a little acidic pucker
Paired well with a lemon ricotta chicken pasta (almost like Alice and wife had planned this)
This is a straightforward, simple summer sipper, no complexity but delicious. It was hard for us to save some for a second day. I’ll post again this evening and see if it develops any more.
Hello, all! Alexandra here - your co-winemaker at Omega Road Winery! We are thrilled to share our 2021 Torrontés and 2020 Gratia white wine blend!
The Torrontés is a favorite for Summer - light and bright and perfect for sipping by the pool or BBQ. The varietal is unique… super approachable for new wine drinkers and has enough nuance to keep the pros enjoying!
Our white wine blend is a fun take on a bold white - we want to highlight a traditional blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc, with our unique spin! A bit tropical on the palate, but with citrus notes that lighten and an acidity that carries the finish.
I disliked both of these wines. The Torrontés took me three days to finish the first bottle. It starts out drinkable but then finishes with an odd indescribable aftertaste. The Gratia was a little better, could taste the Sauv Blanc of which I’m a big fan, but something just tastes weirdly off. Maybe the overnight at the UPS store damaged the wine? The delivery estimates are so far off these days. This one came in like 2 weeks early. Having said that I also had a box of 4 rose also rerouted at the same time and those were perfectly fine and delicious.
Anyway, I think I’ll pass if this comes around again.

Day 2, hasn’t developed any more on the nose or palate, but it’s a little less acidic and a little sweeter.
Stupid Google didn’t like any of the image insertions
