Bright and elegant this Rhone-style blend is bursting with scents of ripe Bing cherries and rose petals. It is juicy and balanced and offers up flavors of strawberries, cassis, and white pepper.

This 100% Petite Sirah is an inky dark purple hue. The nose sets the stage with aromas of black fruits, fresh herbs, and sweet toasted oak. The palate is loaded with blackberries, and Luxardo cherries and gives way to a long and supple finish.
Bright garnet in color, this Zinfandel meets the Rhone Valley’ blend is redolent of blackberries, and vanilla. The palate is a celebration of red currants, subtle herbs, and strawberry jam. All leading to a lingering finish.

I had a few wine loving friends over to assist with this tasting. At PNP this wine was a very deep purple color with boozy and grapey scent wafting out of the bottle. Upon closer inspection we also detected notes of blackberry. This was quite alcohol forward upon first sip. It had a not off-putting tartness to it and was quite acidic. Although it was acidic, it was surprisingly smooth with no burnination while quaffing.
We decided to try this with a few nibbles, lab rats that we are. This meshed well with olives (kalamata and Castelvetrano), and cheese. Through this we determined that it would probably be very good to drink with BBQ or something fatty to stand up to the acidity and tartness. Initially, this wine needed food. Score! It sang with the BBQ popcorn that we had available.
At 30 minutes, the blackberry still comes through and the wine is not too tannic.
After 1 hour, the sweetness really comes through. The wine has morphed into a jammier fruit forward version. There are additional blackberry notes present. We were also able to taste a hint of oak and a dash of pepper. It is more drinkable after breathing, and by our estimation no longer requires food.
I saved some from the crowd for a day 2 tasting and the wine did not really change. It still had the jammy blackberry forward tartness noted on the previous day.
Could it stand to be cellared for a bit? Yes, we believe this Petite Syrah would age well.
As always, thanks to Alice and the team for the tasting opportunity!
My go to Zins were/are Wellington Vineyards, Scott Harvey, Laura Michael/Zahtila, Meeker, Saxon-Brown, Denier-Handel, & Pedroncelli. In no particular order.
It was good on pop 'n pour, but didn’t thrill me. Stayed consistent on both glasses (saved rest to taste tomorrow.)
Bright deep red in color, this Zinfandel blend has scents of black fruits and vanilla. The palate has tastes of red fruits, subtle hints of herbs, and a lingering medium finish.
Will taste again tomorrow. With the appropriate food!
I love Peachy Canyon! They really knock it out of the park for me. I would be in for a case if I hadn’t just started a three week vacation with no one to receive these for me….

Happy Hump Day to all of you working folks…for us old retired folks, what day is it anyway? Actually if it wasn’t for the scheduled change of wine offers here I wouldn’t have a clue to what day of the week it is…ha!
Ok, enough of the drivel…
WE, on the GSM:
90 points. Focused aromas of boysenberry and pomegranate show some extracted qualities on the nose of this blend of 48% Grenache, 32% Syrah and 20% Mourvèdre. The palate is heavy with berry jam and pie crust flavors that are balanced by firm tannins on the finish. — Matt Kettmann 12/31/23
WE, the Petite Sirah. 91 points. Dense aromas of violet, lilac and acai draw the nose into this bottling. The palate continues the floral line with lavender accents while picking up pinches of oregano and marjoram, as the tannins stay sticky into the finish. — Matt Kettmann 3/1/24
WE, The Odd One. 90 points. Hints of red flowers, cinnamon dust and light clove play against the red currant and cranberry aromas on the nose of this blend of 81% Zinfandel, 13% Carignane and 6% Mourvèdre. It’s medium-bodied on the palate, where strawberry, cracked pepper and juniper flavors meet. — Matt Kettmann 3/1/24

Jeb Dunnuck did some sipping 8/30/23…the GSM:
89 points. Mostly Grenache yet blended with 32% Syrah and 20% Mourvèdre, the 2021 GSM sports a semi-opaque ruby/purple hue to go with solid aromatics of red and black fruits, peppery garrigue, and spice. It reminds me of a terrific Côtes du Rhône and is medium-bodied, balanced, and has a good finish. 8/30/23
…the Petite Sirah. 89 points. The 2021 Petite Sirah (100% Petite Sirah) is dark and rich, with plenty of black fruits, scorched earth, chocolate, and peppery notes in its medium to full-bodied, mouth-filling style. Aged 18 months in 35% new French oak, this balanced, satisfying Petite Sirah will drink well for 5-7 years. Drink 2023 - 2030.
and The Odd One joins the 89 point parade. The 2021 The Odd One checks in as 81% Zinfandel, 13% Carignan, and 6% Mourvèdre. It has a pretty, lifted, elegant style as well as notes of red and blue fruits, cedary herbs, spice, and orange blossom. It’s another well-made, charming, satisfying red from this estate.
I was happy to find my second chance at Rattage was a much better bottle than my first go.
The Peachy Canyon GSM is right in my wheelhouse.
One of my favorite styles of wine from one of my favorite areas.
Initial nose upon opening was mainly alcohol burn with some muted red fruits. Not surprising given the 14.9% abv.
After about 10 minutes the alcohol had disappeared and beautiful aromas of red cherries raspberry and plum wafted from the glass with maybe a little wet stone.
Color is a light garnet, somewhat transparent, definitely a lighter style GSM.
First sip revealed much of the same, red berries and cherry with a little vanilla and I detected maybe cedar or cigar box. The wine had a long finish with a hint of white pepper.
The wine is medium body with medium acidity, youthful, bright and focused. It came off as a very elegant and well made wine.
I feel this wine would pair with a variety of cuisine, but did not pair with a meal of NY strip steak with a port demi and creamed spinach. I felt this was a little too lite and this meal needed a bigger more tannic wine, aka cab.
Wine held up nicely on day two with no noticeable changes.
I don’t think laying these down for any given time would help the wine, as its drinking beautifully right now. 48% Grenache, 32% Syrah and 20% Mourvedre, fwiw.
I would be in for 12 if this were a single offering. Have to see what the Rats have to say about the other two wines in this deal. I imagine that they are equally delicious.
@tercerowines drinking one of their Zins now. Yeah, a little slowly, and my brain feels it. But yeah- quality, especially for $16.67 a bottle. Speaking of of quality, your two c’s from your offering last month were so clean. Man, just pure fruit and you knew what you were drinking. Enjoyed (yes - gone) a lot. Hope there is a next time

@smoothie72 Great write-up. Thank you. put me over the edge to pick up a case
@Leatherchair thank you
Just like J Dusi from the same region, this is such a definite “buy a case” no matter what they have on here
Quality winery making quality wines - definitely on the more ‘fruit forward’ and ‘ramped up’ styles but hey, it is Paso . . . Cheers!

@Leatherchair @tercerowines agreed both of those wines are top notch. Can’t wait for the next offering
Went ahead and pulled the trigger on a case of the Peachy Canyon. Too good to pass up at this price.
Any winery participation yet???
@tercerowines
Annoying, isn’t it…
@rjquillin yep especially since they are trying to move products here right?
