i think i know the policy, but from a real word perspective, can someone with mychoice redirect a wine package from one address to the other? any limitations to just ups facilities? hoping for a quick answer for a client.
Some months ago I was successful redirecting a package to a UPS facility, but not to a different private address. Problem there was, despite my purchase, my name was not on the label so that was my only alternative as the intended receiver was out of town.
So, a partial answer…
I’ve had great success redirecting to a ups store/facility, but a redirect to a private address costs money and I’ve not been willing to shell out for it.
I’ve made friends with a UPS employee who redirected my home-bound case to the Customer Center for free. But I gave him a bottle which was more than the cost of an actual redirection. So a wash.
After paying the fee ($5.99?) to have a couple of shipments redirected (due to summer heat) I paid the $20 for an annual MyChoice membership. I have only had shipments redirected to my closest UPS Store. However, whenever I get a text from UPS about a delivery the next day, there is a “Leave with neighbor” option (but I have never used it).
I am guessing the UPS contract you signed necessitated this question. (Hence the “upsell” of my choice.)
My old fed ex driver knew me, and would sign for me. When I got my Wellington Ports yesterday, during a zoom meeting, the guy actually asked to see my ID. NO MASK ON.
Um, it is upstairs. Hold on. Show him (now I am masked) and he makes me sign.
HOLD THE HELL ON. I AM ALMOST 40. I have a graying beard. You are really going to make me walk upstairs to get a license? Fine.
My FedEx guy would’ve signed, left it behind the rails to hide it, and been on his way. I hate UPS.
UPS has been great for me. I know all of my drivers (Doug for 19 years, Jeremy for 5 years and he moved two streets over last year, and Scott started last summer and is great). I can redirect to the hub for free, which when I was still going into the office was a few streets over and on the way home so very easy pickup. Now from home not as convenient, but only about 12 miles so not far. They leave packages in my garage if I don’t answer the door. FedEx has contractors who change, but they will deliver to Walgreens 2 miles away which is much more convenient now that I’m working from home. I have the free version of my choice (basic services) since the hub holds for 5 business days for free and it is fairly close.
I was happy with FedEx previously, but only because I could redirect to Walgreens. Their home delivery was horrible. For UPS, I used to always use the “redirect to hub” option, as that was close to work and was free. More recently, they appear to have done their best to hide that option on the website. When I go to redirect, the hub doesn’t show up as a choice. I can get it to happen if I call them, but, again, they have done their best to keep you from talking to a human. They will just constantly repeat the tracking information and then hang up. I finally gave in and just paid the 20 bucks for a year to see if the redirect to store option was worth it. (Which is probably why they hid the redirect to hub option in the first place.) It’s already close to paying for itself and because ahem a certain site isn’t always so good about warning when a shipment will come, it’s been helpful as a convenient pivot when a short-notice message comes in and I am traveling.

I agree with both your points around the FedEx home delivery and the hold at hub being hidden and having to call, but my drivers are so good so I’ve only had to call once. Yes, it was a complete pain.

@KitMarlot My local UPS store told me they won’t take wine deliveries.
I can get it to a UPS store but it costs me 6 bucks.
@ScottW58 you have UPS mychoice? I pay 5 bucks to have it held, but I’m not a my choice member.
@CruelMelody
Maybe 4.99 or 5.99? Can’t remember I do have my choice or at least I can log in. I try to avoid them like the plague, long story
@ScottW58 good to know. I was thinking about joining since I have to hold all my wine there now, but sounds like I wouldn’t save any money

They will not honor the “Leave with neighbor” option for alcohol. I tried that and was denied.

Ain’t UPS grand
