Black cherry and raspberry notes are balanced by currants with hints of vanilla underneath.

Wine is a reflection of the land, the climate, and the care taken. We are dedicated to sustainable farming and winemaking methods and believe these practices, along with the stellar quality of Monterey County, allow this Pinot Noir to mirror our passion.
Vineyards
Our wines are crafted from fruit grown on sustainably farmed estate vineyards in Monterey County, California, where the maritime influence from the Monterey Bay causes cool days and temperate nights. With a marine layer that often lasts until mid-morning and consistently windy afternoons, the Central Coast’s long growing season allows the grapes to ripen slowly
and achieve intense fruit flavors.

Al Scheid first saw untapped potential in Monterey County in 1972 when the wine region was in its infancy. What started as a grape growing operation that sold 100% of its production to other wineries today has evolved into a grapes-to-glass family business that crafts authentic and elegant wines. Our Scheid Family Wines portfolio now includes five unique and distinctive labels: Scheid Vineyards, District 7, Metz Road, VDR and Stokes’ Ghost.
With 12 estate vineyards comprised of 4,000 acres located along a 70-mile spread of the Salinas Valley, the array of microclimates and soils give us an incredible selection to work with each vintage. While our wealth of vineyard resources is exceptional, it is our employees that are at the heart of everything we do. Much of our workforce has been with us for over 25 years, with several of our vineyard managers employed for over 40 years.
The Scheid family – Al, Scott, Heidi and long-time COO Kurt Gollnick – along with our dream team of employees, are passionate about crafting the best wine possible and honoring our commitment to be good stewards of the land and supporters of our local community. We are proud to produce authentic products that sit on your dinner table and invite conversation, connection and warmth.

2019 Reflection Ridge Monterey Pinot Noir - $20 = 16.67%
tastings.com (Beverage Tasting Institute) says all sorts of good things…
89 Points. Silver Medal. Highly Recommended. $14. Best Buy. Cellar Selection (now to 3 years)
Dusty ruby garnet color. Aromas and flavors of pickled lingonberry, dried cherry, marinated mushrooms, and leather with a satiny, vibrant, dry-yet-fruity light-to-medium body and a sleek, delightful, medium-length finish with accents of cranberry, dressed beets and cured meats with moderate oak flavor. A nice balance of fruity, savory and oaky notes mingle in this table-ready Pinot Noir. 2/17/21
Thanks for the opportunity. Initial reactions were this is an easy drinker, one note, everyday Pinot. (Now looking at the offering, reflected by the price point)
On PNP, almost no nose. A hint of dried fruit and maybe leather? A nice ruby color in the glass, with medium legs.
First sip was bing cherries, bright and tart, and that is where it ended for me. Decided to let it sit for a bit to see if it wild open up while I made dinner. Dinner consisted of Mississippi shredded chicken over creamy polenta with fried brussel sprouts.
After about an hour, the wine had opened up a bit more and along with the bing cherries getting notes of strawberry and cola on he back end. Still an easy drinker I wouldn’t mind popping open.
For comparison sake I popped a 2019 Schug from a previous offer. The Schug was much more complex with dark fruit and vanilla and coats you tongue in much more of a velvety fashion.
After 4 hours the Reflection has almost a dusty undertone and the cherry almost disappears.
While it isn’t my favorite Pinot I’d be happy with a glass. I will probably pass on this offer as I have a lot of Pinot and it didn’t blow my socks off.
@jshaver thanks for clear review. Honestly I knew up-front I’m not a fan of Monterey Pinots (tend to be exactly as you described) so when I saw Monterey Pinot for $10 I kind-of expected this. Some will like the simple cherry flavors and this one doesn’t sound offensive or “bad” at all. Those with a TJs nearby can often find Monterey or Central Coast Pinots in a similar price range.
To my wallet’s detriment I now only like really good Willamette Valley PNs and unfortunately the “good” ones if you can get them, will start at about $30 on a “deal.” and most of the premium ones, at much higher prices, are on allocation and VIP-only.

fwiw
@kaolis wow, don’t know if I’d know what a “pickled lingonberry” would taste like …
@stolicat I was wondering what the beets were wearing…
@kaolis or what sort of disease the meats had …

@jshaver BTW what’s “Mississippi shredded chicken?”
@jshaver @pmarin sounds good doesn’t it?
@jshaver @kaolis @pmarin
Mississippi pot roast but with chicken has to be good!
@pmarin I know exactly your predicament. I have been introduced to some very good Anderson Valley, Russian River and I find myself leaning that way.
