Tasting Notes
“Ground up gravel and soil aromas meet with berry fruits on the earthy nose of this bottling. It’s somewhat smoky on the palate, where strawberry, sea salt and light oak flavors make for a savory style.”
The Ryder Estate Pinot Noir Rosé is crisp, fragrant, and refreshing. Strawberry, raspberry, and cherry aromas lead into a compelling palate of luscious fruit
flavors framed by crisp, refreshing acidity. Pairs perfectly with a brunch of spinach and bacon quiche, a charcuterie platter on the patio or a well-deserved staycation in your own backyard.
Ryder Estate wines are crafted from our sustainably-farmed estate vineyards on California’s golden coast. California is blessed with cool ocean air that blankets our vineyards in the early morning until the warm sun peaks through the clouds in the afternoon. This wonderful combination of sea, sunshine, and soil makes perfect growing conditions for our grapes to develop intense flavors and elegant character that is true to each varietal. Our passion is to make the best wine in each vintage to enhance life’s best moments. At Ryder Estate, we keep it real and make great wines you can trust.
Winemaking
After gentle crushing, the wine is allowed eight hours of skin contact to extract aromatics, flavor, and its exquisite, light pigment. The wine is then gently pressed, racked to stainless steel tanks, and slowly fermented to dryness at a cool 50°F to preserve the varietal aromatics.

At Ryder Estate Wines, we take finding the time to play seriously. Whether you awaken to ride waves under a Pacific sunrise, hit the slopes to revel in the solitude of the first run of the day, or meet up with your bike crew for an after-work ride, the power of bringing play into your day is indisputable. Sure, there are a lot of great things to watch on Netflix, and sometimes a binge-fest is just what we need. And sometimes, we need a kick in the pants to realize that life begins at the end of our comfort zone. Maybe that’s training for your first 10K, maybe it’s jumping out of an airplane, or maybe it’s driving without a plan to discover what’s around the next bend. Life is about experiences. Wherever your journey takes you, #EnjoyTheRyde
Our wines are a true expression of the area, all packed with luscious fruit flavors that pair perfectly with every moment fit to raise a glass. Paddle out to open water, hike to see the view, and freestyle the first snowfall of the year. Let adventure take the wheel and then celebrate well, the Ryder Estate way.
When colder, nose is a bit tight, not overly floral. Presenting taste is tart cherry, which I happen to like a lot. Little earthy on the backside. Dry, not overly acidic. No mouth tingle afterwards. I like the flavor profile more cold, as it warms up you get more of the strawberry/floral notes, so if that’s your jam, don’t cool it past 55. Price is right on this one, nobody who likes drier wines is going to complain about this one.
We’re dangerously low on Rosé. The price is certainly nice. Hoping for some favorable reviews/rattage. Failing that, my hope is for the return of that José Rosé from a couple of months ago. We just finished our last bottle of that one tonight.
@InFrom I have the same sentiment and hoping for reviews/rattage. At this price seems like it fills a need for default Summer Rose (or Fall, or Winter…)
This quote at the end of the wine description is encouraging: slowly fermented to dryness at a cool 50°F to preserve the varietal aromatics.

“Ryder Estate is part of the Scheid Vineyards family. While it makes a variety of wines in California’s Central Coast, it’s arguably best known for its rose of pinot noir, which we review here.
The wine is fresh, with a strong floral element that cuts through the nose: roses and carnations, cut with cotton candy and orange flowers. The palate has an edge of sweet nougat, common in inexpensive rose, but its light-handed notes of strawberry, almond, and fresh cream lift it up. A decidedly easy-drinker, with a fresh and light perfume note on the finish.” 7/5/21
Also…Anthony Gismondi On Wine(?) had this to say 8/5/21:
“I like that the Ryder Estate estate is certified by the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance (CSWA). I was also surprised by its freshness and weight. Yes, weight it is a touch Tavel-like in the mouth, although fruiter and fresher in style. Look for a pale pink colour with peaches, citrus blossoms, and dark cherries at the finish. It’s honeyed but not sweet and further tempered by a pink grapefruit finish that washes it away. Impressive from California, especially under $20. Fish cakes, vegan burgers, to grilled fish will work.”
Anthony seems to score wines three different ways, giving this wine 89 points, 16 1/4 out of 20, and 3 1/2 glasses out of 5.
WineDiva(?) chimes in:
“Fresh, pretty, crisp. The entirety of Ryder Estate is certified by the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance (CSWA), the state third party certification verifies winegrower’s commitment to implement and continuously improve sustainable practices.
After gently crushing of the Pinot Noir grapes, the juice for this rose is allowed eight hours of skin contact to extract flavour and light pigment; it’s then gently pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks.
Orange blossoms, white peach, Rainer cherries and hints of honey are expressed on the nose. It’s a light-bodied and dry pink flavoured with with juicy red berries, a hint of fine spice and the peel of a pink grapefruit. It’s a pretty pink, approachable, fresh and crisp and suitable to pair with everything from pizza and cheese platters to grilled fish or veggie burgers.
Second review: October 2021
Pale apricot-hued this fresh Pinot Noir pink suggests orange peel, tangy red berries, honeysuckle, watermelon, wet stone and white peach aromas. It’s bone dry with impressive structure (for a pale pink) and is flavoured with tangy berry and orange zest alongside fine spice and burnt tobacco.
A serious year 'round rose made for food. Recommended Pairings: Patio Sippers, Seafood/Fish, White Meat Chicken/Pork, Sushi, Tomatoes and Tomato Sauces, Appetizers”
ok, back to the espresso machine, crazy storm off the coast here last night, need another double or two…
Also labrat here, received yesterday afternoon. Checked for mail on when this was going to come up, but not seeing one thought there was more time! A bit early to start on it this morning so will get to this in a few hours.
struggling with the photos, so adding the text first:
SO says: nice! refreshing! floral! (not too verbose, but is quick to say if something isn’t too his liking - so this is good commentary from him)
Nose - I get a bit of floral, maybe strawberry
Color - doesn’t quite come out in the picture, pale pink-orange hue
Taste - crisp, refreshing - can taste the floral & a nice bite of acidity to make it refreshing - maybe even on the tart side. Has good flavor to it, so less of the watery-quaffing type summer rose - more like but not quite as sharp as a New Zealand SB (which I like). Hint of sweetness on the finish (but not at all sweet, which I dislike).
For my tastes, this is good juice! At this price, my main question is whether I have room to store - and if the SO will let me buy more rose (some panic buying happened earlier in the summer as I like to have plenty of rose on hand through the hot months)

Lab rat here, this showed up on my doorstep unannounced this afternoon, I had no idea it was for tonight. I’ll try to get something up tomorrow.

@Winedavid49 where is the unicorn? Not that I am complaining as I have no room, but Clark’s video was intriguing.
@danandlisa had to move it out! Long story.
But yes my clues are admittedly all a kerfuffle!!

@kaolis
I didn’t think Scheid shipped to Ohio. I thought I remember sending a case to family in PA. Oh well. So many wineries and orders to keep track of.
@KNmeh7 They have quite a few labels under their umbrella. Not sure how it works but I’m guessing individual licensing for each??
@kaolis @KNmeh7
Their wines started shipping to OH awhile ago.

Was hoping to buy a case but only six-packs are available?
Was just able to order a case now. Maybe “re-balanced” shipment quantities. I was concerned this might sell out despite a fairly quiet discussion.

Worked now, can always use more rosé this time of the year
… one of those ‘stealth deals’ where not many people post about buying, but the state purchase maps quietly fill-in…
@rjquillin you can add this one to your list
