Sales Format?
6We know from the Kickstarter page that offerings will be updated thrice per week. That’s awesome to know but I’m curious whether the offerings will be offered in the daily deal format like Meh or if there will be a format similar to the existing Wine.Woot where there’s a featured item along with a selection of other offerings.
Apologies in advance if this was covered in the video or something, only read the text.

For starters, it will be one winery offer with two options (small lot, i.e. 3 pack and always a case offer at a lower price per bottle). we are basically passing on logistical savings and winery case discounts along. one can buy that separately and also develop buying linkups to share the case. so you can buy less than a case (with others) at a case discount.
@Winedavid49 Hi David, thanks for the reply. That sounds great. Am I correct in my understanding then that there will only be 3 distinct offerings each week, offered in small lot and case quantities, with a new one being listed on each of the three mentioned days? In other words, if there’s a cab up for sale today that’s the only wine on offer today until a new wine is listed in a couple of days, right?
@jbartus correct. that’s how we plan to start out. we don’t have any plans for “Woot Plus” style events (at least for initial launch).
@Winedavid49 That’s super cool - is the site going to handle shifting the payments around, too?
@klezman we’re planning on coming up with something to help split payments of a case with your mates. won’t make it for initial launch of wine deals but we’re hoping not too long after.
I’d probably be down with doing a case fairly often if it contained an assortment. 12 bottles of a single wine you haven’t tasted yet is a bit of a leap of faith.
@arielleslie I’m with you, except when I know the wine/winemaker well or there are advance LabRats/Grape Debaters notes that share their personal notes as would happen on Wine.Woot at times.
@arielleslie There’s also the suggestion to get/make some local friends and split the cost. I would do that with some of the Wine.Woot orders.
If you’re relatively new to wine, there’s also something to be said for having 6-12 bottles of the same wine, drinking a bottle every 2 months, and taking notes for how it changes over time. I’ve found that doing this helps TREMENDOUSLY for being able to open a bottle and figure out if I need to drink the rest ASAP or let them all sit for another year. Obviously, this takes a while to develop, but I considered it an investment into being an informed wine drinker & consumer.
@corrado I aspire to be that organized some day.
Finding your local “mates” for a case is groovy and all. I’d just love mixed cases.
And you can buy a case by yourself on Casemates.
Ultimately, you will be able to buy at case discounts (and take advantage inherent shipping savings) and still only buy a few bottles. That is if you go in on a case with one or more people.
So what I’m getting for the case splitting thing is you just have one case shipped to one address, then divide it up with people- casemates is just going to allow the cost to be split however many ways instead of a group paying the person who ordered it back, right?
@Pantheist I think so, yes
@Pantheist that and the fun of finding fellow casemates in your area, meeting them, sharing other hobbies, enjoying life more. That fill-in stuff between shopping.
@Pantheist There are probably complications of the legal sort where monies are collected by casemates and said delivery never occurs from the recipient of the shipment.
As I recall, federal law prohibits my being compelled to comply with any sales contract for unsolicited items I didnt order or agree to.
So whomever receives the case will have to agree to act in an agency capacity to complete the sale of goods by casemates to the other case mates.
Not saying that cant be worked out, but its not exactly as casual or informal as it seems. e.g. chargebacks on a partial case participant, or non-delivery as I’ve noted.
Gotta be asked…
We going to be limited to a single case?
@rjquillin Because you need more wine!!! Remember, there’s no more Wellington fire sale…
@rjquillin It’ll depend on the sale, but it’s looking like 2 cases will be possible most of the time. (Lots of disclaimers here about how there’s still a lot of unknowns and things might change.)
@rjquillin I hope not. If I only get one case, what will Jen drink?
@rjquillin ultimately it should be 2 cases per involved recipient. so if 3 people are in on it, they can get two cases each. 6 total to one address. likely, it will be the shared single case (4 each to make up the case) which will be the most popular. lot’s to consider.
@rjquillin Leave some for the rest of us why don’t you now!
@Winedavid49 just take 2 cases of every offer and auto ship to @rjquillin. It would save him a lot of time.
@rjquillin
Woof, I think it might be time for us to treat RJQ like a friend at a bar who has had too much drink, we need to cut him off and prevent further purchases because we care about him! Although doing that might put Woot/Casemates out of business
@ScottW58 Good to see you ~finally~ made it with your familiar humor
@Winedavid49 While I’m thinking about it, WHEN are you going to start sending out the wine purchases from the late, lamented Wine dot Woot? I still have nine purchases, some of them substantial, dating from as far back as 12/17 (that’s the Two Jakes, and there’s also a St Laurent Carneros from the 20th). Those are the most distant, and I’m really hoping to start seeing some FedEx announcements soon… :-{
@rjquillin
Well already been here but just went through a name change.
@ScottW58 So you’re only going to use @noshipsummer from July-Oct?
@klezman shoulda known, but that could be many!
@klezman
July- October?? I found a way to get my real name so I changed it.
