Tasting Notes
The 2012 Santa Rita Medalla Real Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon is now a mature wine after 7 years in the bottle. The nose is rich and full of roasted fruits, dried figs and some soft spice notes. The wine has a sweet attack and a wonderful length. The mouth has intense rounded ripe tannins that create the prominent backbone that leads the wine into a long creamy dark fruit finish.
In 1987, before the Maipo Valley gained global recognition, a bottle of the 1984 vintage of Medalla Real Cabernet Sauvignon changed the history of Chilean wine. Defeating over 35 participants, including wines from France, Spain and Californiaâs Napa Valley, Medalla Real became the first Chilean wine to win the Paris Wine Olympics and obtain the gold medal. This recognition, organized by the French food and wine magazine, Gault-Millau, helped position Chile internationally as a producer of high-quality wines, surpassing iconic wine production countries from the Old World. It also showcased the Maipo Valley as an area of excellence for the production of Cabernet Sauvignon.

I received this bottle last week, and the initial email showed a different launch date. I missed the updated email saying that the sale had been pushed to tonight.
I was caught off guard and had nothing planned but then saw the bottle at rollover so I quickly opened it to have a sample. Iâve been fighting allergies for the last few days, so my schnauzer has not been working as I would like.
Initial aroma on the open is light alcohol and some fruitiness. Canât quite pick out the specifics. Initial taste is good. It is a little bit sharp, but has a nice clean finish. It certainly tastes like a good cabernet sauvignon. I was able to pick up a few hints of chocolate aroma. I pulled out some sharp cheddar cheese and some olives, and it certainly pairs nicely with those. After a few minutes in the glass, I was able to see some nice thin legs. I will cork the bottle and taste it again tomorrow. The alcohol aroma has already diminished even after just a few minutes in the glass so tomorrow should be better. The case price has me thinking I will probably get some. I like it. I did a quick Google search and it looks like back in September of last year, the six pack was available for just a little bit less on reverse wine snob. Thanks again for the opportunity hopefully tomorrow my nose is a bit more open.

Same situation as above. Launch pushed up with notice as the bottle was a couple hundred miles away -not part of the travel wine . Asked SWMBO to do the early duty. Heard back â this is too much pressure!â Got this from her: Smells good, nice color, nice taste. I like it.
After 8 hours on the road, popped open the vacuvin and poured a small sip. Nice blackberry and cassis aromas, typical for a Cabernet with a few bottle years, pleasant, with some hints of earth or maybe leather. Great mouthfeel with no harsh edges at all. The flavors match the nose and this is drinking really well. Decent amount of acid but havenât got to food yet. Set the glass aside to quickly cut the lawn (been gone all week and things are growing fast in NE Ohio). When I returned, not a lot of change (~1 hr) picked up some cedar but that may be from brushing against the shrubs . But still drinking nicely.
Nothing overly complex here but for the case price seems like a good to great deal. No comparison to the freshly opened tastes but it has held up well overnight on the counter. Seems like it has some life yet so I wouldnât rush to drink them upon receipt.
I bought a case, it hit the tastebuds of dear wife and I like it especially for the price. Splitting some with a friend but might be able to part with up to four more
