2017 Scott Family Estate Chardonnay, Carneros, Napa Valley
Tasting Notes
Aromas & Flavors: fresh aromas and flavors of luscious white peach, ripe apricot, vanilla, and toasty oak with vibrant notes of lemon and tropical fruits. Crisp and clean on the palate, with a creamy texture and silky finish. Ten months of sur lies aging enhances this Chardonnay’s rich complexity and develops an elegant, creamy mouthfeel.
Food Pairing: This Chardonnay pairs well with roasted lemon chicken, grilled Ahi, or decadent baked ziti pasta.
The 2017 Growing Season, began with ample rainfall, followed by a moderate Spring resulting in extended flowering with minimal shatter. Harvest began with a Labor Day weekend heatwave, then cool weather allowed sugar levels to return to normal. The vines responded with full, healthy canopies for the long growing season.
Harvest & The Vineyards
Carneros is our newest family-owned vineyard. The appellation received its official AVA (American Viticultural Area) in 1983 because of its unique terroir. With temperatures somewhat
more moderate than growing regions to the north, marine influences and soil types make it ideal for the cultivation of the cool-loving Chardonnay grape.

Ok…it’s Saturday? I’ve been a day off all week, I swear it’s Sunday, but who cares right?..so vinepair.com says:
This wine will coat your palate. The acidity is low, so the weight is persistent with a long, creamy finish. If you dig rich oaked aromas and high alcohol in your Chard, this wine is for you. Even though it’s intense the wine is balanced and would do well as a gift at a dinner party or wine and cheese night. Keith Beavers 2020-03-26
Wine Enthusiast mentions rich/oak/ripe in the 3 previous vintages…
First off my wife and I both prefer reds or Champagne. We do occasionally have some whites on hand, if so it’ll be Chardonnay. So we both are picky about whites wines taste profile. Upon first open and pour it’s dark yellow color we both assumed oak. When tasting it has a good harmony of light oak flavor. Has the aromas of fresh fruit, not being sweet at all to the taste. The mouthfeel is velvety and smooth, with a medium body. It left long legs on the wine glass after each taste. We both liked this wine and and stated it’s easy drinkability. We did no research on the wine and thought a price of around $15 a bottle on casemates would be a good deal. Again both preferring reds or Champagne I thought this Chardonnay fits well within our palette preference. Kudos to the wine maker for creating such a well balanced white wine!
Whether you’re seeking a wine for a special occasion (way above your grocery store Chardonnay) or simply looking to elevate your everyday dining experience, this Chardonnay is undoubtedly worth buying.

2017 Scott Family Estate Chardonnay - $30 = 16.66%
We were thrilled to receive a bottle of Scott Family Estate Chardonnay from the Casemates team this week! A Carneros Chardonnay felt like a lucky pull as a lab rat!
I’m posting this on my phone and can’t immediately figure out how to post photos, but hopefully I can add them in later.
The wine color is golden. We drank this with cheddar and crackers and it paired very nicely. Definitely a nice wine for the summer and for BBQs. The wine had relatively strong vanilla, with moderate/heavy oak and butter. Nice concentrated and complex wine with plenty of tropical and fruit notes in there. My father in law called out Apple. I got some pineapple. It’s on the dryer side, moderate acidity. Nice finish. High alcohol content at 14.5% so watch out
Seeing the price point, I think you all know how hard it is to find a nice Carneros Chardonnay at $12.50! My mother-in-law compared it to Kistler Chardonnay. I have never had Kistler so I don’t know if that’s a fair comparison point, but given that’s a $75 bottle, that seems like quite a compliment!
@stevenfarber527 If you turn your phone sideways, you’ll see all the little icons for the functions. Look for the one where the moon comes over the mountain.
@InFrom I’m assuming that’s only if you don’t lock your phone screen? Seeing the function icons. I lock my screen and don’t believe there is a workaround??
@InFrom No interest on unlocking my screen…but I did just to see if that was the solution to seeing the icons. It is. But the rotating screen drives me nuts, back to being locked as it has been forever…
@InFrom@kaolis thanks y’all for presenting this bit of information. I have always wanted to post a pic in “what are you drinking” but couldn’t locate the tools
BTW my screen is always unlocked
