These high elevation, mountainous vineyards are non-irrigated, stand-alone head pruned vines that produce well-structured, earthy Zinfandel. Produced in the old world style of balanced wine making. This wine expresses the Amador Zinfandel terroir with well balanced fruit, French oak, structural tannins and medium alcohol. 30% of the French oak is new with the balance being older, used barrels. This briary varietal Zinfandel is extractive and bold with flavors and aromas of bright cherry, cigar tobacco, spicy pepper and hints of well-blended oak. This low alcohol, old world style Zinfandel is refreshing and complex.

Quite an offer! Very tempting, especially with the library wines. But another case can’t arrive at the same time as the little one. That’d be less than a good move on my part.
I’ll hope somebody will open some 1869 and library Zin when I’m around
I’m a little confused by the prices in the Price Comparison section, though. For example, one item is:
2012 Jana Winery Old Vine Zinfandel $754.32/case (including shipping)
On the web site, the price for the Jana OVZ is given as $55. If my math is correct, this would make a case $660 plus shipping, and shipping would work out to $94.32. Others where I could find a price on the web site work out to $79.32, $68.07, $82.32, and $71.82. ??
We used to have a spreadsheet (ss) where one of us would go and get the individual prices like you did, enter them into the ss, along with the offer info, and the ss would do the calculations for us, showing us the proportional savings for each bottle, and one of us would post it.
Sadly, none of us have the time anymore (probably the inclination either) to do it, so I imagine they are just dividing each by total bottles in order.
@MarkDaSpark Yeah, I’ve got a spread sheet like that, too. (The problem with using it is finding the winery price or the MSRP for the individual wines.) But the thing which struck me about the numbers in Price Comparison section was the implied shipping cost-- would the winery really charge $94.32 to ship a case of wine?
Whatever, the price per bottle on this offer is outstanding. I may kick myself for not ordering two cases.
If you delay the shipping just a few more weeks from the anticipated ship date, I’m in! I’m short on some Zin that I enjoy. This normally is an autobuy.
@hscottk Hi Everyone, Great to be back on Casemates with a whole bunch of Zinfandels. We always honer the deals to states not on the list. Just call the winery or Jana and we’ll take care of you.
Cheers,
Scott
How much more are you saving by buying a full case?
(Note: Tax & Shipping not included in savings calculations)
Scott Harvey Mixed Zinfandels - $40 = 16.66%
I’m not much of a zin drinker, but Scott’s 1869 is one exception I’ll gladly make. Every bottle I’ve had was absolutely superb. Looks like quite a deal!
To answer the two people above me about how you can not buy this. . .
I just started remodeling the master bathroom. Do not have the funds at the time. I guess I will take solace by thinking of how lucky I was to get the magnums a while back.
@browncj7 Yeah? Probably? If i were splitting any combination would be good, but maybe 1+4 and 2+3 would also be equitable given the extra age on the J&S?
@browncj7 I don’t really see an obvious split, so I would say flip a coin and whoever wins gets to choose #1 and #4, or #2 and #3. They pick. (Not your numbers, but first, second, etc. choices.)
Otherwise, put numbers on the 4 without the other split knowing, and tell them to pick 2 numbers. Sharpie dots on the foil or something if your split person doesn’t trust you.
Hi Everyone,
Always fun to talk with you all on Casemates. We are at the apex of harvest. We are finding the old vine vineyards both Zinfandel and Barbera are all picking out at around 50%. Light crops produce wines with lots of extraction and flavors. We had a good rain about two weeks ago which was perfect. I always say the best wine in Amador is always made after the first rain. In this dry mountainous climate as harvest approaches the vines start sucking water out of their own fruit to stay alive. The sugars spike but the grapes have not developed full ripeness yet. If a winemaker is not careful he or she will produce a high alcohol green wine. With a nice rain with quick drying afterwards the vine picks up the moisture and puts it back in the fruit. Usually the next time the sugars start to raise the grapes are at full maturity. We are getting great full flavors now. Just not enough grapes.
We will honor orders from people not on the ship to list. Just call the winery direct.
Cheers,
Scott
Help! I want to order a case, but my order is stuck on 6 bottles with only an option to add one more. I want to cancel the 6 pack and do a case. What to do?
@GNOP
Go back to the order page, where you select 6 or 12. Above both is a radio botton that is blank. Select it and it will clear your earlier selection. Then pick what you want.
Picking Estate Tempranillo and Petite Sirah tomorrow. While bringing in Lake County Cabernet today and tomorrow. Will be bringing in the Fiddletown York Vineyard Syrah on Friday. My 46th harvest. Wonder how many I left in me. Every year Mother Nature give us something new and exciting. Looking forward to this year’s wines.
@rjquillin@ScottHarveyWine You read my mind. Incredibly popular winemaker on the site who is active in the forums and puts together some really awesome offers for us . . . talks about hanging up their hat; I had some very sad memories.
Edit: Thanks, mediocrebot. Always there to ruin the moment.
I’ve never really delved into Zinfandel wines that much, but this looks like a great way to check out different styles. Thank you @ScottHarveyWine!

I’ve only got a case of Zin right now (Harvest Moon 2012, 2013, and 2014 Zin mixed case), so I’m in! I’ve actually got 4 - 2014 Oblivion Zins, too, that I drink as an every-day wine, but I’m not counting them (I actually REALLY like the Oblivion Zin, but I got it so cheap here on Casemates that it’s in my every-day rotation). The Oblivion Zin would be an auto-buy for me if it was offered again here on Casemates.
Everyone here talks so highly of Scott Harvey Zins…I hope it’s not oversold on me.
/giphy feathery-voiceless-fang
@kr4 I just got a case. I’d be willing to split a second one. I’m near the Auburndale LIRR station in Flushing, NY. I work in Queens and rarely schlep into the city.
I already have over 100 bottles outside of my temp controlled cellar; now I’ll have over 112…
Anyone got a decent wine cellar for sale cheap in the NYC area (specifically North Flushing)? (My current one is “220” (read that as ~180) bottles, to give an idea of what I mean.)
Oh Yeah! Auto buy for me - I have a lot of the Mountain Select so fingers crossed for some Janes and J&S! I buy a lot of Scott Harvey and love them-in for a case
It’s got to be complicated putting together cases like that. My case had “Old Vine Reserve” (2x2017, 1x2008) instead of “J&S Reserve”. That could just be an error in the info describing the offer, or maybe they shipped the wrong wine. Or ran out of the J&S, so substituted the OVR for it. Or maybe something else. (From what I can tell from the web site, the OVR is more expensive than the J&S, so I may have gotten a good deal. Whatever, no complaints, just observations.)
@DickL I felt pretty lucky when I got a 07 and 08 in each case, forgot about the Jana. No Jana, no problem. I had already ordered a mystery case from Scott Harvey. Should have something Jana in that.
@crabbyman@DickL
Description error. Scott’s OVZ is the “white label” equivalent of the J&S wines (Syrahs and Barberas). I do not believe there has ever been a J&S Zinfandel unless that’s something new.
@chipgreen@crabbyman
Actually there may have been some. At least, on the scottharveywines.com site in the Zinfandel section, there are 2015s and 2017s shown. On the detail page for the 2017 it shows a picture of a 2017 Old Vine Reserve. The pic with the 15 is of a 200x Old Vine Selection, where x is a digit I can’t make out. 'Tis a puzzlement. Of no real importance-- a rose by any other name…
@crabbyman@DickL
You’re correct that they are now referred to on his website as J&S Reserve although if you look closely at the labels you will see that the white label Zinfandels still say “Old Vine Reserve” unlike the white label Syrahs and Barberas which say “J&S Reserve”.
I got the '08 and the '12. My Jana label is, unfortunately, not winning any beauty pageants. Cork and foil seem just fine, but for such a pretty bottle it is pretty ragged. It wasn’t going to be a gift so no worries. Thanks for the offer Scott and WD.
Drinking the 2008 Old Vine Reserve (white label) Zin tonight. It’s already bricking (might be my cellar), tastes Old World on Pop-N-Pour. I like it. (Bought it a while ago.)

@InFrom
Gah! Didn’t notice that. Yes, you’d think it would make assumptions by now!
@InFrom @karenhynes But this off is a Win!
Quite an offer! Very tempting, especially with the library wines. But another case can’t arrive at the same time as the little one. That’d be less than a good move on my part.
I’ll hope somebody will open some 1869 and library Zin when I’m around
@klezman Stop by WNY.

My team was REALLY happy I brought this beast to the calendar! “But it’s such a cool offer! “.
And it is.
@Winedavid49 Can’t pass this one up!
This is an autobuy.
@DickL
The ss was great for adding the wines to CT.
@DickL I find many price comparisons off the mark here. Used to point it out, but eh. Not a complaint, is what it is.
Nice offer here!
I’m surprised it’s not Friday.
/giphy deprived-ultimate-queen
If you delay the shipping just a few more weeks from the anticipated ship date, I’m in! I’m short on some Zin that I enjoy. This normally is an autobuy.
@scottharveywine Terrific offer here. Sadly, quite a few states dropped off your ship-to list. Any chance of honoring this deal to NJ from the winery?
@hscottk I’m in NJ too!!??
@hscottk Hi Everyone, Great to be back on Casemates with a whole bunch of Zinfandels. We always honer the deals to states not on the list. Just call the winery or Jana and we’ll take care of you.
Cheers,
Scott
I have so much zin in the racks, but how do you say no to an offer like this?
/giphy green-pedestrian-beaver
How much more are you saving by buying a full case?
(Note: Tax & Shipping not included in savings calculations)
Scott Harvey Mixed Zinfandels - $40 = 16.66%
/giphy exciting-tailored-python
I’m not much of a zin drinker, but Scott’s 1869 is one exception I’ll gladly make. Every bottle I’ve had was absolutely superb. Looks like quite a deal!
If you can tell me how not to buy a case - DON’T tell me!
Its too late!
/giphy factual-quadruple-fish
You guys are killing my wallet and my wife will kill me. But how can you not buy this…dang!!
To answer the two people above me about how you can not buy this. . .
I just started remodeling the master bathroom. Do not have the funds at the time. I guess I will take solace by thinking of how lucky I was to get the magnums a while back.
If you have the means, you should buy this!
Bought two…hope for 1 of each of the “or” offerings. Fingers crossed. Merry early Christmas to me!
/giphy common rude meal
I have no room for more wine. What to do?
/giphy mottled-cordially-advice
@tbcarroll. Rent another wine locker, of course!
@tbcarroll
Or drink faster!
Cannot resist the siren call of Scott Harvey wines. Looks like a lovely combo of zins. I am so looking forward to this!
Cheers!
Even with a healthy supply of reds, can’t say ‘no’ to a mixed box of Scott’s Zins, right?
/giphy unusual-mandatory-boundary
What, no rattage? <g>
/giphy passing-proud-feather
@rpstrong
You really need rattage for these?
@rjquillin The giphy I posted was from my order for a case.
/giphy experienced-wealthy-cactus
So – let’s say you split the case. What’s the “fairest” split?
1,3 and 2,4?
That is how I would split.
@KNmeh7 Trust me, I’m a scientist
@browncj7 One person specifies the split; the other chooses which half to take.
[Just like how my Ma taught us to share the last piece of cake.]
@browncj7
I would take the 2,4 hands down. A more equitable split would probably be 1,2 or 3,4.
@browncj7 @radiolysis
That’s a little closer but I would still take the 2,3 over 1,4 without hesitation.
@browncj7 @chipgreen @radiolysis
What is this splitting the case nonsense? Tell them to get their own yummy Scott Harvey Zin case!
I think I’ll number them 1-4 and we’ll pick out of a hat
Cheers,
Scott
@ScottHarveyWine Thank you - just ordered via the winery
I caved to persuasion.

Help! I want to order a case, but my order is stuck on 6 bottles with only an option to add one more. I want to cancel the 6 pack and do a case. What to do?
@GNOP try loading the webpage again maybe? i can select 6 or 12 bottles. have you already checked out on the 6 bottle?
@radiolysis my reply became another post. I’m not navigating this thing very well today.
@GNOP
Go back to the order page, where you select 6 or 12. Above both is a radio botton that is blank. Select it and it will clear your earlier selection. Then pick what you want.
@rjquillin Bingo! Thanks.
No - have not placed the order yet. Signing out didn’t work, nor did reloading.
@ScottHarveyWine
Just please don’t pull a Peter Wellington on us anytime soon!
@rjquillin @ScottHarveyWine You read my mind. Incredibly popular winemaker on the site who is active in the forums and puts together some really awesome offers for us . . . talks about hanging up their hat; I had some very sad memories.
Edit: Thanks, mediocrebot. Always there to ruin the moment.
MEALS! DEALS! EELS! AWESOME!
@rjquillin Not planning on quitting any time soon. Got a lot more wine to make and drink with the company of the wonderfull Woot/Casemates group.
/giphy valid-tinted-clam
Remodeling 2 bathrooms. Really shouldn’t be buying, but it’s Scott Harvey wines. So I had some restraint and only ordered 6.
@mommadeb two bathrooms calls for two cases, no?
@knlprez ha ha ha. I wish.
This is normally an auto. But so stocked already! Guess I will have to do a 6.
I’ve never really delved into Zinfandel wines that much, but this looks like a great way to check out different styles. Thank you @ScottHarveyWine!

Wow, this is so much fun! Thanks!
Wow, Connecticut is off the list?
In for 2 cases, hoping to get 1 each of the 2011 and 2012 Jana Winery Old Vine Zin, and 1 each of the 2007 and 2008 Scott Harvey J&S Reserve Zin!
Thanks WD, Scott, and Jana for the amazing offer!

/giphy rowdy-gargantuan-amusement
Anyone in NYC want to split a case?
@kr4 I just got a case. I’d be willing to split a second one. I’m near the Auburndale LIRR station in Flushing, NY. I work in Queens and rarely schlep into the city.
DAMMIT!
/giphy likely-premium-stitch
/giphy clownish-persuasive-snow
Oh Yeah! Auto buy for me - I have a lot of the Mountain Select so fingers crossed for some Janes and J&S! I buy a lot of Scott Harvey and love them-in for a case
/giphy horrific everlasting collar
/giphy thorough-woolen-vanilla
Can’t say no – must have all the zins.
/giphy eager-blissful-earthworm
got 2 cases,no jana
@crabbyman @WineDavid49
must have been a packing error, I’m sure WD will make it right
@crabbyman
What did you get instead of the Jana?
@crabbyman @DickL
Description error. Scott’s OVZ is the “white label” equivalent of the J&S wines (Syrahs and Barberas). I do not believe there has ever been a J&S Zinfandel unless that’s something new.
@chipgreen @crabbyman
@crabbyman @DickL
