93 Points, 2022 California State Fair Wine Competition
Tasting Notes
This food friendly, well balanced wine has ripe plum and blackberry flavors. The flavor is accented by a light oak spice and soft tannins for a smooth finish.
Vineyard Sources
A combination of Malbec from 22 year old vineyards in the Borden Ranch AVA and the Clements Hill AVA in the warm terrain at the base of the Sierra Foothills.
100+ Years. 5 Generations.
200,000,000+ glasses poured.
Our family’s winemaking tradition began in 1883 when our Great Great Grandfather Salvatore Dominic Scotto began making wine at home, in the old Italian tradition, on the island of Ischia for family and friends.
Family winemakers have always been the backbone of America’s vineyards and wineries, especially in Lodi, the heart of California’s wine country. Fifth generation vintners Anthony Scotto III, his brothers Paul, Michael and sister Natalie carry on the Scotto winemaking tradition as their grandfather and father did before them. Scotto Family Cellars is a collection of signature wines reflecting the finest attributes of their historic Lodi appellation.

Saturday you say? Well in that case think I’ll get as oiled as a diesel train, Saturday night’s alright…but we’re getting off topic… I don’t know if they were oiled up or not but our friends from Wine Enthusiast put a bit of this in the wine thief and had this to say:
87 points. A smoked-meat aroma overrides fresher notes of blackberry and black plum in this wine. Further aromas and flavors include boysenberry, bramble, dusty forest floor and dried eucalyptus leaves. A very dry wine with an aggressive tannic structure, it has a palate driven by oak and smoke. — Stacey Briscoe 12/31/22
On Vivino, folks are very very happy with this wine for what they paid. Which is probably on average $14. Although on cellartracker price is $20. Descriptions makes it seem very fruit forward. A few say slightly sweet, but whenever something has a lot of fruit there’s always a few people who get a sweet sensation, so my guess is it’s dry. I’m tempted to buy just based on the Vivino descriptions. Rats would be nice though.
My sincere apologies for posting this late Rattage! I’m on the road and took the bottle with me. Unfortunatley, this is the first time I’ve been able to take a little time out.!
A deep garnet in the plastic cup
Looks like a malbec.
Smells like a Malbec, ripe plumb & dark fruit.
Tastes like a Malbec, well balanced, dark fruit palet
Some cinnamon, like sweet spice on the finish
This is a nice new world Merlot, it lacks some power/dryness, tannins and bit too sweet on the finish for my personal taste.
Nonetheless this is a nice wine, likely well priced. If this is your jam - jump on it!
@rpstrong You gotta read the description. Come on, I think it’s part of a human’s job still. Take a second and show them some love.
I mean, could an AI write like this?
The most efficient gearboxes are manual. You, the operator, have to select the gear set you want to use based on how fast you intend to go. This, however, is somewhat complicated. So, most cars these days will use an automatic transmission. The gears are mostly adjusted automatically through the use of a hydraulic system (what transmission fluid is used for).
Ok, well, maybe so. But that’s from the front-page description for this wine! On Casemates, to be clear.
But with CVTs that’s not how automatic transmissions work in today’s cars. Usually.
This is the same winery that does an amazing low alcohol white. Got it a couple months ago and it was incredible! I will for sure pick up this varietal. If that ever gets offered I am down for a case or more.

I recall tasting (and buying) this at a local store’s tasting a number (probably 6-8) years ago.

I don’t believe that’s how modern-day automatic transmissions work…
@stinks ???
@rpstrong @stinks Maybe they are switching gears from white wine to a nice red like this Malbec

@stinks Ah! That explains it. I read through the comments three times, but didn’t go back to the description.
@stinks
Move the letters around and add some numbers for a whole different kind of transmission. It’s Hologramic!
