The 2022 vintage produced a full and fruit-forward Cabernet Sauvignon featuring characters of strawberry, mixed berry pie, and bright cherry on the nose. The palate leads to flavors of cherry cola, strawberry jam, and soft vanilla framed by a fine, structured tannin profile. The palate finishes with a subtle touch of French oak and an elegant balance between tannin, acidity, and body.

At Slingshot, our mission is simple: craft a bottle of wine that’s big on flavor without the hefty price tag. No puzzles, no pretension, just pure enjoyment in every sip.
We embrace an unapologetically adventurous spirit. Slingshot is about stepping forward with confidence, breaking free from expectations, and rewriting the rules of how wine should be enjoyed. Be bold. Be curious. Choose your own direction—and don’t forget to have fun along the way. Every bottle of Slingshot is made with that philosophy in mind. It’s wine that champions the underdog, celebrates good company, and turns any moment into something worth raising a glass to.
Slingshot Wines was founded by brother-and-sister team James Stewart and Caroline Guthrie, who set out with a simple vision: make great wine that’s bold, approachable, and never weighed down by pretense. Growing up in a family rooted in wine, James and Caroline saw firsthand how intimidating the wine world could feel. With Slingshot, they wanted to flip the script. Their goal wasn’t to chase trends or follow rules—it was to craft wines that deliver serious quality while keeping the experience fun and accessible. At the heart of Slingshot is Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from trusted growers and crafted with care to overdeliver in every bottle. When available, the lineup expands to include their fresh, vibrant Sauvignon Blanc—a perfect counterpoint to the Cab’s bold character. For James and Caroline, Slingshot is about more than just wine. It’s about celebrating individuality, championing the underdog, and reminding people that the best glass of wine is the one you’re enjoying with friends.

Hey! It’s me and charming Leo, here to talk about this wine. Sunday was my birthday, so we didn’t get around to tasting this tonight. Had it with an excellent pot roast.
Our household hasn’t ever had this wine before, but I can see that it’s been a choice several times before. I would say, as a general summary, this seems like more of what y’all liked about that wine, so if you liked it before, yep, you’re going to like it now.
So, our tasting notes on this bottle:
Served with pot roast, tasted a few minutes out of the cool room temp bottle, then later over the course of the evening. Dark red in the glass, strong berry nose. Tasted, it’s strong dark red fruits: strawberry, cherry, and “forest fruits” – that mix of red currants and like, marionberries? Yeah. Definitely tannic, but not unbearably so. For its dark color and intense fruits, it’s not that heavy on the palate.
Charming Leo has other feelings. Initial caveat: he may be coming down with something, so he’s got a little sore throat.
Tasted at room temperature, both on its own, and paired with a rich beef stew.
Nose: Strong fresh dark berry notes, with a background of mineral/earth and wood.
Palate: Not very complex. More big dark berry notes, not much tannin. Slightly astringent, earthy finish.
While it’s perfectly drinkable as it is, this feels like a very young, simple wine that needs to lay down for a year or two. It has the big flavors of a cab, but it’s almost like it’s “trying too hard.”
For me, this wine is a little young. While it’s not at all cloying, it doesn’t taste balanced yet However, at the same time, that along with a slightly “rough” feel also suggests to me that the potential for something quite good is there, given enough time, and that it could round out and soften quite nicely.
IMHO, all the pieces seem to be there for a fine Cab, but it needs more time to get there.
Me following up: I told Leo that he makes it sound like he didn’t like this, and I would guess reading this that he would rate it poorly (like a 3/10.) – BUT he also sounds in person like he likes it a lot. He agreed! So he wants you all to know that this is just fine as a cab, but he thinks it will be more balanced and taste better if it ages a bit.

Where’s Fred?
This one is a true cellar defender. If any of the NEO crew are buying, I’d be glad to take 2-3 of them off your hands.
