Complex and yet approachable, the Slingshot North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon has a bouquet of ripe forest fruits, tobacco and vintage leather. The palate is dark and textured with notes of dark chocolate, blueberry, and plum that balance the acidity and chewy tannins. The lingering finish of subtle French oak will have you scrambling for more!
Whole-berry fermentation in stainless steel fermenters followed by wet cap immersion, totaling 20 days of extended maceration
Slingshot is a family effort shepherded by James Stewart, Caroline Stewart Guthrie and family winemaker, Blair Gurthrie. Together, they join their peers in focusing on issues surrounding sustainability, preservation, labor practices and maintaining family-owned businesses. Slingshot reflects the Stewart family’s ambition to preserve a vital family enterprise and practice meaningful land stewardship—both while producing fine wine from premium vineyards.
All Slingshot wines begin with premium fruit from the Napa Valley and North Coast, much of it harvested from our own Juliana Vineyards where we strive through sustainable methods to grow quality fruit for generations to come. We don’t compromise when it comes to grapes because we’re committed to giving our customers sophisticated, approachable wine at a great price.
At Slingshot, our singular goal is to bring you a great bottle of Napa Valley wine at a reasonable price. We’re not interested in perplexing you. Wine is about enjoying the experience. Our attitude borders on irreverent. Slingshot is about putting your best foot forward while forgetting about fitting into the mold or following the rules. Be bold, be adventurous, choose your own path, and above all remember to have fun.

What a great wine. I’ve purchased every time it’s been offered here and “beyond” thru the WD Stargate.
What a great everyday drinker, a fav among our family and friends. I would totally recommend this juice.

2018 Slingshot North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon - $30 = 18.74%
Anyone notice a difference from when slingshot was exclusively Napa County juice a few years back to now being North Coast? I would be interested to hear the winemaker comment and maybe include some more specifics regarding sourcing. I’m not saying it’s of any less or more of a value or quality, just curious.
labROUS Report:
This is a medium bodied well balanced dry red that makes a nice everyday dinner companion.
Initial aromas of cassis, mulberry and cocoa open to show some caramel, cherry, butterscotch and baking spice notes. I appreciate the subtle use of oak - enough to add body and some aromatic complexity without being obvious.
Pleasant entry, some suppleness, and the flavors echo the aromas. Just enough acid and a bit of gritty tannin lead to a dry finish with decent length, and it handles the alcohol level well. I think this wine will be more enjoyable with food than without, given the lack of sweetness or dominant oak.
All in all, this is a very nice, medium bodied, well balanced dinner wine. It is styled for near term drinking, making no aspirations of being a concentrated, age-worthy Cab. I definitely appreciated it more with food.
@PeterW
Really good to see your here!
Hope all is good with you, and, hopefully, you’ve avoided the infernos up there.
I think I can safely say many here have missed you…
@PeterW Hey Peter - I think about you a lot as I still get to drink a bunch of your wonderful wine - everything has held up well - btw. And … I think you meant “aspirations” rather than “aspersions” above.
@PeterW I opened a Wellington 2002 Zinfindel about 3 weeks ago. It was glorious. Thanks again. I’m now down to only Wellington ports so if anyone out there has some Wellies cellared and want to sell some, please HMU.
the Slingshot North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon has a bouquet of ripe forest fruits,
Pardon my ignorance here but having enjoyed wine for over 50 yrs I have never heard of forest fruits. What are forest fruits???
Got a golden ticket and wanted a chance to report in. I’m going to preface this with some big caveats! I didn’t get the bottle until about 5:00pm this evening and it was warm after sitting in the truck all day. Knowing that the sale was already on I had to toss it into the fridge for an hour to get it into a drinkable temperature. Unfortunately dinner was leftover’s that weren’t really a great match (chicken and dried scallop congee). I also pulled out some leftover chili that I thought might interact better but I think this was worse, the spices completely overwhelmed the flavors. I did pull out some parmesan cheese and that it did go quite well with.
Anyhow with those issues addressed, on to the tasting. Nice nose not hot or funky, I get some dark fruits maybe a bit of a stewed note. It’s got a nice tannic first bite, not huge but its there and appreciated. The acid however for me dropped off a bit and doesn’t really develop in the mid or end, its soft for me in the finish. Side note my wife said she tasted a briny flavor initially (I didn’t nor could I identify one even searching for it, maybe her meal was interfering?). Flavor wise I got dark fruits with maybe a touch of tobacco. The wine is pretty stable without a whole bunch of development over the next 3 hours. It seems to be a drink now wine that I thought did well by itself or paired with a hard cheese. It’s a great QPR wine that would be perfect for a daily drinker.
Just finished a refi on my mortgage and I get to skip an entire month’s payment Just bought my third case from CaseMates in a week… #financialresponsibility
OMG. I’m so stoked for these. I’ve Victories, cabs, syrahs, zins, and ports going back to 2009 still. I’m such a Wellington fanboy from
The WineWoot days that I even made a point of traveling through there from MN to visit every time I could, and I’m super excited to try these. Heck, before the sale, I met one of the staffers who was even from Minnesota, which made me jealous.

This offering is perfect timing, since we had our last bottle over the weekend. Imperfect for my wallet… but ¯_(ツ)_/¯

@collegebob to me, Forest fruits are darker berries, excluding Strawberries, raspberries, and currents. YMMV!

@WineGoogler No disrespect to the Slingshots, they’re fine enough, but they’re no Wellingtons.
@InFrom I’ve no illusions about that.
