Kickstarter is a weird blend of “interest level benchmarker” + “funding generator” + “store” + “promotional tool”. The first and last elements are what we like most, since we already have stores and money.
@tiger7610 I kicked in $50, and if I recall correctly I’m getting $30 in coupons, a shirt, and shipping to FL for a year. As for money, I’d say I ended up on the plus side of this one as Casemates will surely spend more than $50 on my shipping alone.
@tiger7610 total funds raised clear of expenses is almost certainly negative. True measurement would require more accurate usage rates of VMP than we can know.
That said, all favorable growth indications would lead to greater resources to develop Casemate specific website features. Things that help you find other Casemates and enjoy that aspect of the model.
@snapster I appreciate the insight and transparency. As was experienced with the Woot early on, definitely a great community here…I know I want to do what I can to make the SFKAWW great again!
@InFrom Under “Your Account” > Forum Settings > EDIT. That’s where you have some control on what is displayed. Any choices other than “firehose” limits what comes up. “Show all New” still gives a whole lot to keep track. There is a Chrome extension that lets you jump to new material. So if someone were limiting the number of messages shown, and my post

The extension is a bit clunky, but it does help me find things I haven’t read. As you work with it you’ll have to choose whether clunky is bearable. One clunk is that if you do a reply, the remainder of the unread under that topic lose their marking.
@Lighter That’s not the extension, that’s just how the forum works. When you reply, you reload the page. It appears that it marks the read vs unread comments using the last time you loaded that particular page.

Ya know - this forum software is really suckatacious. I’m thinking snapster bought refurbed, discontinued forum software and told his IT guys to “Shut up and live with it!” Then again, it’s his $$$s, not mine, so I should just shut up and live with it.
@Lighter You’re in great company criticizing some of the more bold idiosyncrasies or the lack of a feature adopted in an effort to keep things focused but you’re off your rocker if you think that we went the cheap route.
If you look at our company as an investor, one solid take away might be that we are forum software developers who do some ecommerce work on the side.

On your specific issue, the feature is to balance catching new messages with the gain of threaded conversation. Your observation is true on unread vs read. A browser solution is to open a new tab when replying or reloading that thread. The gain of threaded conversation is worth it.
@Lighter I don’t see the echo posts occurring at all elsewhere. I don’t think you will either. That was very likely someone who just didn’t read a reply that did show up. Most folks would not reply to a comment without reviewing other replies to that comment by expanding the comment thread.
@snapster Which means I now need to ask - I’m guessing there’s no way to turn the threading off and go to a straight date posted? I’ve been poking at my setting some, but haven’t really found a config that works for me and the way I prefer reading forums. But I also recognize that I’m a weirdeaux outlier in most UI things (I still prefer list menus to icons, I find most centered/responsive designs repulsive, etc.).
@marla25 the way to approach what you want is to consider each Comment a flat thread. Like this one we’re talking in now.
Otherwise it’s like walking into a restaurant and wanting to listen to things said at all tables by timestamp they are said. You don’t really want to do that even if you really like sequential conversation. Because it’s not one conversation.
@snapster FWIW, sql dba/report writer for a living, which colors things (I prefer my data in specific orders). So yes, I really do want, (and quotes are a thing for just that), but it’s not available here and so be it. I’ll live, it’s just an adjustment. Thanks for the response.
@Lighter I’m late to the game but I didn’t see this addressed: what I do is long press/right click on the date and time below the comment I want to reply to and select open in new tab. The date and time beneath each comment is a permalink to that comment, so it will open up a new tab right on the comment I wanted to reply to.

Good solution. How do I do it? Chrome - right click on “reply” doesn’t give a new tab option.
What I’m doing now is reading all the new posts before going back and making any reply.
