This wine is violet-red in hue. The nose delivers plums, sour cherry, other ripe red fruits, and aromas of violets. It is intense with a lovely freshness and fine tannins and the finish is long and fruity.
This vineyard is located in the coastal part of the valley. This is an alluvial terrace interrupted by great ravines formed long ago by rivers that today are dry but have ample vegetation at their base.
Every single task in the vineyard, from pruning to harvesting, is carefully supervised by our viticultural and winemaking team in order to produce the best quality fruit possible. The grapes were hand-harvested into 20kg bins to avoid any damage to the fruit. The harvest began on March 20th, when this variety had reached the optimum aromatic and phenolic ripeness. The clusters were later very carefully selected, then destemmed and selected one last time. The fermentation took place in small stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. The maceration occurred after the alcoholic fermentation. The wine was aged in French oak barrels for 12 months.

Tasting Notes
This wine has an intense red colour with violet hues. On the nose, the two varieties combine perfectly to produce a very elegant and expressive wine that is unique for its type, full of fruits like blueberries and cherries, along with delicious floral notes from the Malbec and notes of very fresh spices from the Cabernet Franc, all making it very complex and attractive. The palate has impressive structure thanks to the character of the Cabernet Franc, which contributes tannins and a lot of tension, along with the smooth and voluptuous nature of the Malbec. Together they produce a very well-balanced, fresh, and powerful mouth that is smooth and packed with fruit accompanied by gentle notes from the barrel-ageing. This is a fantastic blend that showcases its extraordinary terroir very precisely and sharply.

Production & Aging
Every single task in the vineyard, from pruning to harvesting, is carefully supervised by our vitic This wine is a blend of 60% Malbec and 40% Cabernet Franc, both from our El Espinal vineyard. The two varieties were harvested, vinified, and aged separately right up to the time of making the final blend. Both varieties were harvested early: the Cabernet Franc was picked on 8 March and the Malbec 2 days later. This was in order to achieve the perfect balance between phenolic ripeness, freshness, and good natural acidity in the grapes. Both varieties went through a painstaking selection of clusters and berries prior to vinification in small, temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. First, they underwent a cold pre-fermentative maceration for 10 days, and then the fermentation began with native yeasts and very gentle pump-overs to avoid excessive tannin extraction. Next came a post-fermentative maceration for around 10 days to round out the palate. Both lots of wine were racked off their skins 25-30 days after crushing. The wines were aged in 100% used French oak barrels for 14 months.
Pair this wine with a nice grilled burger or pasta.

We are a family winery, founded by Guillermo Luksic and today led by his son Nicolás. We produce exclusively wines of terroir that express their place of origin with purity and precision.
Viña Tabalí has for years been a pioneer and the most iconic winery in the Limarí Valley. Company president Nicolás Luksic is continuing in the footsteps of his father, Guillermo Luksic, who founded the winery in 2002, in ensuring that the places chosen for each variety have a singularity that is reflected in each wine. Nicolás explains, “what we are seeking is to produce high-quality wines that reveal their origin and transport the person tasting them to the soil and climate of Tabalí’s vineyards. That’s what my father always wanted to transmit.”
Felipe Müller, Tabalí’s winemaker since 2006, was born and raised in Santiago, Chile’s capital. Today, at the age of 41, he is considered one of the country´s most influential and important winemakers.

The 2019 Malbec…
Enthusiast, 90 Points. Fresh blackberry and hints of vanilla fill up the bouquet of this Malbec from Chile’s northern region, Limarí. With ripe and firm tannins, it’s full-bodied and features well-balanced acidity. Flavors of plum and blackberry linger in the finish. — Jesica Vargas 3/1/23
Patricio Tapia, Descorchados says:
92 Points. Planted on alluvial soils rich in limestone on the northern bank of the Limarí River, this malbec has a lot in common with its counterparts in the Uco zone, in the heights of Mendoza. And that has to do with its firm texture that grips the palate with a chalky sensation, something that’s related to the chalky soils. Here, it also has aromas of violets and ripe red fruits in a wine that will make your mouth water and that would go very well with a good barbecue next Sunday. 1/21
Wine Advocate: (notes above say Parker but ummm no)
90+ Points. The new red wine this time is the 2019 Pedregoso Gran Reserva Malbec, produced with fruit from their Espinal vineyard, where they regrafted some Syrah to the variety. It fermented with selected yeasts and matured in well-seasoned oak barrel for 10 months. It’s ripe at 14% alcohol but without excess, fruit-driven, spicy and floral, varietal and soft with integrated acidity, round tannins and a tender mouthfeel. Great entry-level Malbec. 36,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in December 2020.
Tabalí produces around one million bottles from their different vineyards in Limarí and Dom in Maipo. The whites are very sharp and with moderate alcohol and high acidity, and the reds are rounder but still very balanced. Luis Gutiérrez 8/31/21

The 2018 blend…
Enthusiast. 88 Points. Coming from northern Chile, this blend of 60% Malbec and 40% Cabernet Franc opens with notes of peppercorn, grass and a dash of coffee bean. Tannins are slightly drying, framing the medium-weight palate. Moderate acidity supports concentrated black fruit flavors and hints of black olive. Notes of grass linger in the finish. — Jesica Vargas 5/1/23
Wine Advocate. 93 Points.
I love the 2018 Vetas Blancas Malbec-Cabernet Franc, produced with 60% Malbec and 40% Cabernet Franc. It combines the floral character from the Syrah and the more austere, herbal and fresher profile of the Cabernet Franc. The two grapes show really integrated and complement each other. It’s floral and spicy, with fine tannins and a dry, serious finish. This is ripe at 14.5% alcohol, with a medium body and nice balance and freshness. 36,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2021. Drink 2021 - 2025. Luis Gutiérrez 8/31/21
Patricio Tapia, Descorchados. 93 Points. Sweet fruits intermingle here with herbal and spicy touches in a blend of 60% malbec and 40% cabernet franc, both planted 10 years ago on chalky alluvial soils in the Espinal Vineyard near the banks of the Limarí River. An easy-drinking wine with violet tones from the malbec as well as a good dose of herbal and tobacco flavors from the cabernet franc. Go for a plate of aged cheeses. 1/21
Vinous. 91 Points…Purple in the glass. The nose delivers herbs and spices over a backdrop of plum and candy. Voluminous in the mouth thanks to the Malbec, the flow is constrained by the Franc. All in all a very successful pairing.
Suckling. 92 Points. A medium to full bodied red, with blueberry, violet, sandalwood and dried herb aromas. Succulent and flavorful. Drink or hold.

Nice pH numbers but surprisingly low TA. I wonder what the rats have to say about the perceived acidity here.
