Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is the first Italian DOC. This place - also referred to as “The King of All Wines” - was known to be the favorite of some of the most influential Popes, Kings, and Presidents of Italy. Montepulciano in Tuscany holds some of the world’s greatest hidden treasures. One of them is Fattoria Della Talosa.
This wine enchants with an intense, floral, and fruity-spicy aroma with hints of black cherries, tobacco, and oak spice. With complex and elegant flavors, this exquisite Vino Nobile shows firm tannins on the palate, a balanced structure, and a well-integrated acidity. The finish is long, soft, delicate, and harmonious. An eclectic wine, suitable for any occasion.

Talosa’s story started over 50 years ago when Angelo Jacorossi acquired this beautiful historical estate. The Jacorossi family started pushing very strongly to produce extremely high-quality wines, so much so that this estate became a watershed in the quality of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Today, this award-winning winery is being managed by the 3rd generation of the Jacorossi family. This property comprises more than 80 acres of vineyards, established in one of the loveliest Crus in Montepulciano called Pietrose. This outstanding place is located at a 350–400-meter altitude, with the vineyards facing southwest. The vines thrive in medium-textured soils of Pliocene origin, with Tuff and clayey sands. These perfect terroir conditions, combined with the expert hands of winemakers Christian and Luigi, result in alluring, unique, and powerful wines.
The estate is ridiculously beautiful, a place that seems to be the set of a medieval time movie. Talosa’s historical cellar dates back to the 16th century. Visiting this place is like stepping back in time. The cellar is built in an underground area between Tarugi Palace and the Sinatti Palace, two of the oldest buildings in the city.

I believe in brevity. This wine is DELICIOUS! I prefer reds. Check. I am not a fan of overly sweet reds. Check. I like a little spice and pucker to a sip. Check. I love long legs. Check (legs for days on this one). I do not like to wait. Check (it’s ready to drink right now). My recommendation is - buy this wine. Is it worth the $20.83 a bottle for a case of 12? Yes. It is worth the $20.83 a bottle for TWO cases of this wine! Buy it. Buy it all. Split it? Nah…buy it for yourself and hoard it. But not for long…drink it! Share it? If you’re nice…

Lazy Monday after a busy weekend, and I need to get out and mow the lawn, so copy-pasted these reviews straight from the distributor’s retail site. They look legit, maybe check after a little caffeine:
Strong on the nose showing notes of black prunes, blackberries, cinnamon powder and cherry liqueur. Full bodied, super smooth tannins and a remarkably beautiful finale. It needs time to distend and come out. Better from 2024. ~94 WinesCritic.com 6/22
Cherry and cedar aromas with some dried wood, following through to a full body with layers of juicy tannins and a crunchy finish. Better in a year or two. ~92 James Suckling.
A dark and rich red, full of blackberry, black cherry and blueberry flavors in a modern style. Features flashes of iron, vanilla and toasty oak as this winds down on the gripping finish. Best from 2024 through 2036. 3,500 cases made, 1,000 cases imported.d. ~92 Wine Spectator
Dusty, dark yet attractively floral, the 2019 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Alboreto wafts up with a mix of crushed violets, black currants and stone dust. This is silky and soothing, without a hard edge in sight, as mineral-tinged red and black fruits cascade across its brisk acid core. Purple- and blue-toned florals linger incredibly long, as the 2019 finishes lightly structured and on a note of refinement. I love the balance here. ~92 Vinous
Sounds like a very good Montepulciano and one that, if the wine review descriptions are accurate, will go well with Italian food. Also, reasonably priced. I’m in.
@jmdavidson1 just a note, it’s wine from Sangiovese grapes, from the city of Montepulciano. We made the same mistake when we had the opportunity to visit this winery last October!
@jmdavidson1@stolicat@VogonPoet More Americans are familiar with Montepulciano the grape, as in Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. Aside from being Italian, it has nothing in common with Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, which is made from 100% Sangiovese grapes grown in the region of Montepulciano and is more similar Rosso di Montalcino and Chianti Classico.
@jmdavidson1@stolicat I read the comment as thinking this was a wine made from the Montepulciano grape - sorry for any confusion!
We definitely enjoyed our visit and the wines we sampled. We did the cellar tour and had a wonderful lunch paired with three of their offerings. If you ever get the chance, go!
Excited to lab rat! I was out of town but finally got this bottle and tried it. Stuck it in the fridge on arrival for a bit because it arrived hot. I haven’t had wine in a few weeks (what?!) and was happy with the nose (smelled easy drinking and dry! A little spice and fruit yum!) and looking for a first sip.
First sip was super dry and gave me a good mouth pucker! Cherries, apricots??, vanilla, oak, some smoke in a good way. Cherries and vanilla on finish. Pretty full bodied with nice long legs. The hubby said tart with cranberries. The kind of wine I like to sip during the week while cooking and with dinner. This seems like a deal at this price. Opened nicely over a couple of hours. Drinking now but I bet this ages well I’ll try again today and report back.

@jmdavidson1 split?
@pete0744 Sure. I’ll buy. OK?

@jmdavidson1 @VogonPoet Care to elaborate on the “mistake”? The 100% Sangiovese was a selling point for me, what am I missing?
@VogonPoet I’m aware its sangio. I’ve had many Montepulciano wines and enjoyed them. Did you try this vintage and what didn’t you like about it?

@stolicat @VogonPoet Thanks for the clarification.
@jmdavidson1 @VogonPoet yes, thanks for explaining that, makes sense now.
Any northwest Indiana/southwest MI in for a split? @ttboy23
/giphy rough-troubled-insect
Anyone in Sonoma County or Northern CA in for a split? PM me. I’m in Petaluma.
@wayne530 sure, I would be up for a split. I am in Santa Rosa.
@alaflying Great! Will place the order shortly and coordinate with you once the wines arrive.
If anyone in midtown Manhattan wants to split the case that i just bought lmk.
(Although i think there would be worse things than having it to myself)
