Kickstart pledge $60 and you get a free year of VMP, 3 - $10 coupons to use on any mediocre site, Casemates forum badge, and a free t-shirt. Since you are already a vmp member it’s a good deal.
I also don’t drink, but I felt bad for not knowing about the meh.com kickstarter when that was a thing. So, take my money. Maybe those appetizers will be good?
If you’re here from meh.com, this is a discounted VMP offer, essentially. 1 year for $60 with 3x $10 off coupons, or $30 net, vs 12x $5 monthly.
No idea why meh doesn’t offer annual VMP to reduce their own merchant fees for 12 $5 transactions vs 1 $60 transaction.
As for a non-drinking person on a wine site that split off from Amazon’s wine.woot when Amazon had to choose between whole foods or wine.woot to sell wine, you likely won’t see many of the non-wine items that were sold on wine.woot. There are likely non-competes in play here on WCC, which sources the wines here and for the non-wine business of wine.woot that Amazon has rebranded as gourmet.woot.
After the non-compete ends (1-2 years, maybe?), we could see the Cavedoni balsamics, Candy Baskets, Beehive cheeses, and such being offered by WCC in both places.
So for the first year or so, there probably won’t be much to see here at casemates, other than as gifts to those around you that do imbibe.
@mike808 From a biz perspective, Casemates is a fresh new joint venture entity with zero contracts and zero restrictions. We’ll contract with Mediocre and WCC for virtually all services provided and delay building up an independent staff to keep costs down. There are no restrictions that would hold us back from any goods or services we chose to offer, directly or imposed upon either partner. That said, we’re starting with our plan for 3 wine offerings a week and we want to nail those.
@snapster While Casemates and Mediocre may not be under non-competes, WCC may be under some supplier exclusivity clauses, given that gourmet.woot will clearly continue to sell the non-wine offerings from WCC’s supplier base.
While I don’t know the details, and WCC may indeed be free to supply both gourmet.woot and casemates with the same items in direct competition with each other, I’m just saying we shouldn’t be surprised if that were not the case, mate.
This was in reference to the OP’s inquiry from a teetotaler’s perspective, where non-wine items would certainly be of interest. I just wouldn’t use the non-wine items and brands that used to be available through WCC on wine.woot as an example of what we might see on Casemates once it has legs and expands to the non-wine offerings.
@snapster I see what you did there. Slick. Then whenever non-wine offerings start appearing here, I’m looking forward to replenishing my supply of some favorites here at Casemates among the suppliers and items of yore from that other site.

Glad you survived the crash and found sobriety!

@mike808 there are no restrictions. If there were, Casemates would simply source any goods we wanted from whomever we wanted.
