Temecula Wineries
2I live in LA and usually go up to Sonoma or do Santa Ynez for wine trips. I’m planning a trip to Temecula in the next month or two and am looking for recommendations. I love reds - Barberas and Zins in particular. I also like sparklings so am open to recommendations for those as well. When I do Sonoma/Healdsburg/Dry Creek, I generally go to Muscardini, Ty Caton, Paradise Ridge, A Rafanelli, Talty, Unti just to give you an idea. Any recommendations are appreciated!

I have a place in Temecula and there are a lot of great wineries. Some of my favorites for reds include Doffo, Leoness (great for Cab and Zin) and Vindemia. Ronzonia (a good place for lunch), Masia, and Thornton have Barbera some times as do a number of others. For sparklers go to Thornton. You can do a sparkler flight. Wiens has probably the largest selection of wines and some of their reserve reds are superb. I will be there from Dec 26th on, if you like I could take you to some places I’m a member.
@hershelk Thanks! Appreciate the recommendations. Have family in town for Christmas so can’t go then but definitely in January!
@reesai We will be gone from Jan 11 - 24, but will otherwise be around.
Also, you’re in LA? You should come to a gathering one of these days!
Hershel is the master of Temecula wine…he showed us a great time this past spring.
@klezman I would love to come to a gathering. Keep getting double booked whenever one is scheduled…
I second Doffo! Out of all the wineries we visited, that was our favorite for beautiful reds. I recommend checking that one out first.
Doffo is good and fun
Weins was also very good, professional.
places range from small and intimate - Hart is the first one on the left as you turn in, to large and professional, Weins was an example of this, as was Doffo. and I forget the Persian themed place on the back road, lots of red blends and an actual sommelier instead of family pouring the tastes.
we bought the most from Doffo over all. the place with the yummy garlic bread was not outstanding for wine, or maybe it was the women who was pouring had no clue what she was serving.
when with my daughter and SiL we did I think 6, and that might have been one over, Weins was the last. My red loving daughter bought all whites and a rose from Doffo (oh my goddess was that the best rose …) the one at Weins had definite key lime notes and she was sold.
