So, i’m taking my daughter to NY for an ID soccer camp (she’s got game) and we plan to spend a couple of days in Manhattan. Any suggestions on cool things to do for a dad and his aspiring 16 year old?
I’d recommend the High Line if you are in the midtown/west area. They did an amazing job of transforming the old, elevated rail line into a park and community garden. Seeing nyc from that perspective is somewhat unique.
Central Park – so many things! Rent a rowboat. Go visit the Strawberry Fields memorial. See if there’s a concert at Summerstage (lots of outdoor music around the city at this time of year), or try to score tix for Shakespeare in the Park. Look for the roller disco skaters.
Is this the kid who loves “Hamilton”? You could make a pilgrimage to the Hamilton mansion, uptown near City College.
The place that’s really considered cool these days is Brooklyn. Do you think she would be interested in a detour there?
You gotta go to TriBeCa and the Terroir wine bar there. You’re WineDavid, after all!
There are innumerable restaurants that are worth your while, many courtesy of celebrity chefs.
In NYC I’ve always enjoyed walking up and down the avenues or Broadway just to soak it in. Pick a random store and go in, walk from Battery Park all the way up to Central Park and/or the MOMA. Lots to see and do en route. Walk from city hall over the Brooklyn Bridge to one of the well known charcoal-fired pizza places, and so on.
When my work used to send me out (for a couple of years) for trade shows at the Javits Center, the guys loved to go to Little Italy and dine on the sidewalk. The place they used to love is no longer open, but I’m sure there are alternatives.
She can make her own custom lip color at BiteBeauty LipLab in Soho, if you book an appointment (assuming such opportunities don’t exist where you live, here in the DMV it’s the closest one I know of). https://www.bitebeauty.com/soho
We second the walk over the Brooklyn Bridge and/or the Highline - both awesome views. For a great meal/drink (but unpretentious), in a great location, with lots of good people watching, highly recommend Market Table in the West Village. Obviously so many good places to eat and drink though…

That’s a start.
I second Central Park. Wife and I go at least once a year to NYC and this most recent trip we soaked up the park. Delightful.
Also, go to the Battery Park area to see lady liberty across the water.
The new Pier 55 park was very cool as well. As is the newly renovated train station by MSG.
Depending on her specific interests, there’s lots worth seeing just by walking around.
@pupator @InFrom this is so cool. thanks!!

@Mark_L
We have eaten our way through little Italy more than once! Good times
It might be a bit overwhelming, but visiting the 9/11 museum is quite amazing, or at least looking at the fountain.
I’m doing a bad job thinking of other great things to do and see. Usually I spend most of my time eating and drinking my way through the city.

If you are there on a Monday night and want to learn or practice Hustle, my favorite group (only visited once & got on YouTube!) is there, but may not have been able to pay for the permits to operate in 2021… it’s a bit unclear.
