Aromas of lemon peel, summer stone fruit, and Jasmine are followed by flavors of nectarines, green apple, and orange blossom. The palate is juicy and concentrated with an extended finish.
This balanced and luscious chardonnay is effortlessly versatile. Pair with the classics, like roasted poultry or baked summer squash. Fresh seafood, like buttered crab, or Mussels Mariniere, play well with the rich, delicate flavors and the impression of sweetness from this wine.
An homage to my father, Thomas Henry, this wine shares my father’s passion about life and embarking on new adventures. Together we explored Europe by foot, bicycle, and car, sharing the lessons of life, family, and friends while enjoying local wines and food. This wine evokes the spirit of our journeys.
Inspired by his adventures with his own father, Winegrower Tom Meadowcroft chose to pay homage to his father by creating serious value wines from California vineyards with his father’s namesake, Thomas Henry. The wines of Thomas Henry reflect a subtle European style of winemaking, yet with the depths and energy the father and son team loved in New World wines.
The dragonfly on our label represents the spirit of exploration combined with the splendor of the natural world, as well as the transformation from one natural state to another, which we see often in winemaking during the process of grape to glass. Dragonflies are legendary travelers, some species can even fly across entire oceans. Their flight is so special, that it inspires engineers to replicate their flight abilities in human aerospace innovation. In the humble but beautiful dragonfly we see something exceptional everyday, and we are reminded that everyday can be exceptional. Cheers!

Really tempted by this. Any rats? Looking for an affordable chard to have around for the summer. Trying to decide between this and a grab bag of $10 bottles from Trader Joe’s
@dak52 I have more expertise in reds, especially cabernet and merlot, but I provided a description of this below and my thoughts. I like chardonnay, but tend to stay away from the sugary butter-bombs mostly offered at the $10 price-point. This is definitely a cut above, made with a deft hand. Well done and nicely balanced, and it will improve. I’m not familiar with the $10 chards at Trader Joe’s, but I’d be willing to bet that this is a better all around wine, would be my guess.

It’s wonderful to be able to taste and rate this chardonnay. I chilled it over night and removed it from the refrigerator about 45 minutes before drinking to get the wine at the right temperature.
On the palate: tart green apple, stone fruit, yeast, nice balanced acidity. It has a medium plus finish and packs a lot of various notes and tones, lending to a nicely complex wine for the price. The apple notes really shine here and I think given another year or so in bottle that will tone down and become more balanced - not that it is out of balance today, it’s simply a young California Chardonnay. There is not a lot of wood on this, which was actually welcome. But it has the acidity in the backbone to age for a few years and I think this will only improve with time.
For those that want that Rombauer rich butter-bomb, this is not it, and thankfully so! This is a wine that will pair well with food given its acidity, think cheeses and charcuterie, or seafood.
All-in-all I was expecting this to be in the $20-$25 category, and I think at the price offered this is a steal. A very nice wine to be enjoyed with food and will be a wonderful wine to enjoy in the coming Spring and Summer.

“BARRELS: N/A”?
@bobalooza presumably that means it’s not oaked and was raised entirely in stainless steel.
@bobalooza @klezman I found a random note that who knows how reliable said neutral oak.

I’m a fan of everything I’ve tried from Tom Meadowcroft. I’m in!
@karenhynes He and his wines do bring tasty value.
And I see IL is well lit up.
Dammit! Missed it! Love Meadowcraft wine.
