Tin Barn Vineyards celebrates those hidden treasures that lie off the map. Our wines highlight the true character of Sonoma County. High atop the ridges of the Sonoma Coast, just off Tin Barn Road, lies a remote plot of Syrah vines. From this fog-enshrouded slope, we sourced grapes for our very first wine and found inspiration for our name. That was back in 2000. In the years since, winemaker Michael Lancaster and his business partners have made a fitting home in our own “tin barn” – a warehouse in rural Sonoma that serves as both cellar space and tasting room. Here, we craft and share our award-winning, single-vineyard wines that are cherished for their uncommon balance and elegance. Our tasting room offers guests a relaxed and unpretentious window into our winemaking process. Come visit us sometime!

Tin Barn Pinot Noir
I received the email that I had a lab rat on the way. The Tin Barn Pinot Noir arrived at 4pm and it went right into the wine chiller. My wife decided to make roasted chicken with black truffle risotto to pair with this wine. I poured a glass to sip on while dinner cooked. The color was a very light garnet and the nose had a hint of red fruit , raspberries and cherries dominated the nose. The first sip was very light, with a soft velvety mouthfeel it would be a good pairing with dinner.
The bottle was able to breathe for about an hour. We poured another glass with dinner. The nose remained the same, but the taste now had some subtle notes of vanilla along with the berries. It definitely benefited from the time to breathe.
The wine paired well with the lighter dinner, it would be a good cheese and chocolate wine.
Well Happy rainy, chilly (comparatively) and breezy Friday my neck of the woods…Reverse Wine Snob been sippin’ and swirlin’ all of these wines…
Pinot Noir, last January:
The 2021 Tin Barn Vineyards Ricci Vineyard Carneros Pinot Noir pours a beautiful light red in the glass. It opens with a lovely, classic aroma of cherry, rhubarb, cola, baking spice and cranberry along with touches of tomato plant and earth. This is Pinot Noir through and through.
Tasting reveals lots of delicious, juicy cranberry and cherry along with licorice, cola, some light earthy flavors and nice touches of spice. Pretty much everything from the nose shows up in the mouth which is a very good thing. Plus, it’s all wrapped up in a wonderfully silky-smooth mouthfeel. This is VERY tasty. It ends dry, very long and juicy with some spice at the very end. It might have even been a bit smoother on day 2 if that’s possible. This is a fabulous example of Carneros Pinot once again!
The Merlot and Cab, from a 2 pack offer in February:
The 2021 Tin Barn Vineyards Pickberry Vineyard Merlot begins with a strong and simply wonderful aroma of dark fruit, vanilla, spice, cocoa, licorice, leather and more.
It only takes one sip to discover this is pure pleasure. In the mouth you’ll find lots of rich, juicy fruit loaded with all those same touches from the nose – vanilla, spice, cocoa, leather, licorice and more wrapped up in a smooth mouthfeel. If you enjoy wines with a lot of oak influence, this is the one for you! There’s nothing subtle about it including the tannins.
It ends dry, grippy, very long and juicy with lots of lingering flavors and was just as good on day 2.
Quite tasty now, this is likely to improve over the next couple of years and indeed once opened, it gets even better the more time it has to breathe.
The 2021 Tin Barn Vineyards Pickberry Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a bit shy when first opened but with time you’ll find quite a complex aroma. Black cherry, spice, cedar, licorice, dried herbs, black tea, tobacco, mint and more all combine very harmoniously. It’s a great start.
Taking a sip reveals it to be smooth and juicy with all those same touches from the nose combining very nicely in the mouth. Again, it needs a couple hours to open up but then it just keeps getting better with more and more nuances coming out. Balanced, structured and with good depth, this is perhaps a bit more on the elegant side of things as far as Cabernet goes but however you describe it, it is delicious.
It ends dry, quite long, grippy on the satisfying finish and was similar on day 2.
Tin Barn Cabernet 2021
Hello and thanks for this opportunity! This bottle of tasty cabernet arrived on Wednesday. Knowing the offer was going live on Friday, I opened it after a few hours. Nose includes vanilla, cherry, spice. Not blown away by the first sips but after about an hour it’s getting interesting–also, it’s 14.5% and you can taste it. I had limited time to taste on Weds because, coincidentally, a friend and I were headed to a local wine bar/shop’s annual “open all the bottles” fundraiser. All tasted out after getting home but I corked it and revisited it on Thursday. The wine was very smooth and felt a little light for a cab. It paired well with some spicy pizza but is also pleasant on its own. I’m liking it more and more as it continues to breathe, and I would be very comfortable bringing it to a cab-loving friend. This combo looks like a great deal, I’m in.
