The 2021 Two Old Dogs Pinot Noir is perfect for all wine lovers and every occasion. In keeping with its Sonoma Coast roots, this wine’s versatility stems from both its delicate mouth feel and surprising depth of flavor. A deep garnet hue brings life to the aromas of fresh strawberries and lavender. Summer-ripened cherries and boysenberries brighten the palate with soft hints of sea spray. Old-fashioned candy store raspberry licorice lingers on the palate for what seems like an eternity as you prepare for your next sip.

Owned and operated by Major League teammates Chris Iannetta and Vernon Wells, Two Old Dogs winery sprung from a passion for wine and love of spending time with family and friends. After their first four vintages of JACK Wines, the team decided to expand their wine portfolio by adding Two Old Dogs with partner Jennifer Lamb, and the winemaking expertise of Julien Fayard, one of Napa Valley’s most respected winemakers. Julien’s wines are a pure expression of their terrior, highlighting the specificities and characteristics of the fruit, vineyard management, soil and climate, producing California varietals with French finesse.
The goal behind the winery is to create wines that are both affordable and delicious. Two Old Dogs wines deliver the taste and quality you expect from Napa Valley at a price perfect for every day and the extraordinary.

Thanks for the chance to rat! My brother unexpectedly got married today, with his larger wedding still planned for October, so we’ve been celebrating with family all day. Apologies for the late review.
I received the Two Old Dogs Saint Helena Pinot Noir 2021 about a week ago and tasted it over three days. I let the bottle rest for a few days before opening to minimize bottle shock. Overall, I would highly recommend. By Day 3, though not initially, I felt I would be happy paying $30 to $40 for it at a grocery store, so at a Casemates price point around $18 to $20 it feels like a solid value.
On Day 1, I was not a huge fan at first, although this style is right up my husband’s alley. My initial impression was a bit cloying and sweet, almost like grape juice.
Fortunately, it opened up fairly quickly and became more enjoyable. It paired reasonably well with food overall, but it was not a good match for shrimp, which was a significant part of our meal. I noted red fruit like cranberry along with spice, herbs, and a touch of earth on the nose. On the palate there was bright red fruit such as cherry and raspberry, some acidity, and a hint of oak.
On Day 2, it showed a noticeable improvement. My husband immediately said, “Holy cow, this is way better today,” and picked up strong chocolate covered cherry notes. It was not a great pairing with scallops.
By Day 3, it showed its best. I was surprised at how well it held up over time, since this kind of pinot is not my “jam.” The initial sweetness had mellowed significantly and the wine felt much more balanced. It paired surprisingly well with Raisin Bran crackers. I picked up licorice along with continued bright red fruit, with more plum coming through, plus more spice and herbal notes, especially a distinct oregano aroma. The acidity felt nicely integrated and the overall profile was much more enjoyable. My husband liked it every day, though Day 2 was his favorite.

Based on the lack of chatter, I wouldn’t be surprised if the baseball players who “made” this wine didn’t actually play cricket…
@mattykillpatty and the reference to Ms. Lamb a little off the mark… had nothing to do with this wine
