With a dark, purple hue, enTycement leads with aromas of blackberry and boysenberry. Upon entry it greets the palate with rich, dark fruit notes, a touch of chocolate, and a lush mouth feel. The smooth, lingering finish is accentuated with a touch of spice.
Vintage
2019 was a classic Northern California vintage with a nearly ideal growing season in Sonoma Valley. The late rainfall and a gradual temperature rise into September led to longer hang times and even fruit development. This harvest offers concentrated flavors and well-balanced fruit that will steadily mature and stand the test of time.
From winemaker Ty Caton, enTycement is a sexy and approachable wine crafted to “entyce” and attract you to the world of our fine red wines. With or without food, enjoy with only the most entycing company.

Price(or quantity) mistake on the half-case? If it’s still available tomorrow I’ll send a half case to my Mom. She prefers Cab’s, but a deal is a deal.
Greetings CaseMateys! It’s been awhile; apologies for my absence. It’s a shame I only drop in when WineDavid sends me a bottle, but what can I say… I show up for wine.
I was delighted to find a pair of Ty Caton bottles in my rat box. I’ve never had the enTycement, but I’ve always found Ty’s Red to be a good bottle with good QPR (especially at Casemate (or Woot) prices, so I was looking forward to trying these offerings from the 19’ vintage.
I’m going to cut to the chase here, because I’ll be honest- I found both of these wines to be tasty, crowd-pleasing and really quite similar. I went to look up the wines after my first taste, and while the enTycment doesn’t list percentages, the two wines share the same varietals; presumably the enTycement has more Cab, if the listing order has any bearing.
Both wines have a nice, deep garnet color; they look young and fresh!
On the nose, they both have an undeniable berry compote thing happening - but Ty’s Red adds a slight note of plum jam, and the enTycement has a whiff of graphite lurking alongside the fruit.
On the palate, there are differences, but they are subtle. Ty’s Red leans to blue fruit; with a good deal of structure, decent acidity and a moderate finish. EnTycement skirts a bit more dark berry fruit with a hint of chocolate. More fruit overall (and less structure) - but again, decent acid and a moderate finish.
Both wines were fresh, lively and quaffable. I bet they’d both be solid with a burger - though admittedly I had them after dinner. I think they’re both drinking great right now, pop n’ pour- and I suspect you could lay them both down for a few years if you wanted to - Ty’s Red’s additional structure would give it the upper hand for aging methinks.
I always recalled Ty’s Red being the baby brother to Ty’s flagship Tytanium. I guess that would make the enTycement Ty’s Red’s 1st cousin?
Thanks to WineDavid and the WCC crew for the opportunity, as always. Cheers!

Ty Caton Mixed Red Blends - $30 = 12.49%
Good morning! Excited to have ratted not one but two lovely reds. Tl;dr: preferred the enTycement to the Ty’s Red, but they’re fairly similar and both crowd pleasers, six bottle price is a steal, already purchased.
Some notes on Ty’s Red: rather tart, notes of blackberry, honeysuckle, plumb, medium tannins, high alcohol. I wasn’t blown away on Day one (Saturday), but it got more interesting after having time to breathe. I also preferred it once I paired it with some cheeses (English coastal cheddar and some asiago/parm blend), dried cherries, and dark chocolate. enTycement: I think I’ve had this before and recall it being a hit one Thanksgiving. I agree with the other Rat that this seemed to have more Cab. Also high alcohol, even more tart, and hints of cherry. enTycement did not make a grand impression initially but by last night I was loving it. Unlike the Ty’s Red, I found this equally lovely with and without food. I would expect to pay $25+ for a bottle, so this is a great QPR. Cheers!
@murftastic I believe Ty’s wine have a somewhat higher alcohol level than some of the other wines we see on this site, BUT TY WORKS HIS MAGIC MAKING HIS WINES AND THE ALCOHOL BLOWS OFF OR SHOULD I SAY INTEGRATES AFTER OPENING! I actually like to pop the corks on red wine and let it sit for an hour or two and find that good wine is even better the second day!
Facts: My first wine during the infancy of the old site was a Ty Caton red wine! My son said that I needed to try the offer. It blew my mind that red wine tasted that good and I’ve tried to get into his offers ever since! For a while, Ty wasn’t shipping to OH, thankfully he put us back on the list!! And being here following WD49 all these years, it’s been such a great journey, especially with a great group of NEO 'Mates to share wine with! Lest I forget…and a basement stacked with boxes five high!!
I would hope that they honor their mistake! I noted that they have changed my order from 6 btls to 4btls sometime this morning after I paid for the order around 1 am EST! Not sure that’s legal, especially in CA!! WD needs to come onto the site and clarify!
@Boatman72; jrbw3 OOPS. how’s that with my morning coffee! we’ll make it right for those who swooped on this. don’t blame you a bit. enjoy. but it should have been a 4 pack all along. still a great deal.
@Boatman72@Winedavid49 Thanks for keeping the 6 pack in place for those that ordered before your morning coffee. I sure hope the rest of your day is smooth sailing!!!
We have NEVER been disappointed in a Ty Caton wine. My wife and I visited their tasting room a long time ago (our trip to Sonoma was roughly nine months before my ten year old son was born). Anyway, they were sooo nice at the tasting room. It was one of the best stops on the trip. I think I’ve purchased every Ty Caton offering on Casemates and the previous site, and the wines have always been extremely enjoyable.
We all like a deal. I get that. But we need to understand our decisions. If the clerk at the store gives you the wrong change to your benefit, do you not remedy the error as the right thing to do. Is the decision to take 6 and pay 4 fair and beneficial to Casemates?
It may well be legal, the bare minimum for conduct, but is it right? I’m not selling my soul for 2 bottles of wine. Please make my order the correct 4 pack.
@msten And it should be noted that while they can’t switch up the quantity, they are perfectly within their rights to cancel those orders. Kudos to WD for taking the high road.
@msten I saw it the other way. If you walked into a store and purchased a candy bar for $1 then 2 hours later the clerk realized it was incorrectly priced and adjusted it to $1.75 would you and the 20 other customers who came through be liable to pay up? Probably not.
Besides, who knew it was really a typo? At first I thought it was just another super deal!
@kitkat34@msten Most people knew it was a typo. The comments yesterday morning were mostly about the pricing error. Anyone who has ever bought from Casemates before knew it was incorrect. My stance on it yesterday was that regardless of who was on the hook for it (Casemates or Ty), it was going to be a financial hit. It’s why I didn’t buy a 6-pack yesterday. Many people who bought it yesterday did it knowing it was a pricing error. It just a makes me a little sad.
@msten I really wasn’t sure what to make of it. One description said 6, “What’s Included” said 2. I was excited to see what I would end up with either way. We are after all on a site known for conducting unconventional experiments in commerce so you can’t say it was completely predictable ¯_(ツ)_/¯
@msten “I’m not selling my soul for two bottles of wine.”
Come on. Use hyperbole much? Look, I love WCC and the outlets it has given me great deals on wine, but do you really think you, as a consumer, is morally wrong for seeing an offer, and accepting it? I don’t understand that logic. Because, if it went both ways, there would never be price gouging, eh? You could call to the business owner’s generosity to let them know that you know they wanted their profit margin to be x percent, but you can’t afford it, I know you could take less profit for me, would you do me a solid???
Imagine how that would work in reverse.
As an attorney, contract law was the one area I completely lost faith in the legal system. Redding Pipe. The worst case I have ever read as far as justice goes. That is why they teach it to us. “This profession isn’t based in equity but the rulings that write the laws are all that matter.”
Can you imagine putting an order in for an advertised price, getting your debit card temporarily charged (held) which can affect your money flow and overdrafts. Only for the business to say: “price error!” Yea, that is the law, I know. But you think that is equitable? Don’t give me “mistakes are made” bullshit. We have carved out consumer rights to the point you are justifying we should feel sympathy for a corporation that makes money off of us? I am sorry, but, why? They don’t send me a christmas card. Ask about my family and wish me well. You are insane and I hate this pro-corporation bullshit.
If you think casemates is going under because the few people that jumped on it that sold their soul, then you need a reality check.
@kitkat34@msten This is an online purchase. You don’t have to make a physical visit to some physical location to do right. People should either agree to the 4 pack or agree to their orders cancelled.
There’s no opportunity cost. And nobody thinks it was some bait and switch scheme.
People trying to insist that pricing mistakes be honored is gross behavior.
@chestermeh@kitkat34@msten So you have been a VMP forever, but have only decided to come out the woodwork to berate all the customers who jumped on a deal, from a literal DEAL website, because they should have known it was an error.
Seriously, what is your stake in this game? Did you order a case, do you even order, or just stirring up stuff for shits and giggles?
Also, no offense to Ty, but those bottles could have been easily sold and negotiated for the 6 pack price. The EnTycement is not worth the SRP, and back in the day when Ty actually visited the forums and cared about these deal customers, maybe there was a little bit of a sentiment of his wines finally got priced more accordingly.
It wasn’t like the 6 pack was 15 dollars or something stupid. They still made money off of this mistake, even if it wasn’t the profit margin they wanted. Because they are still selling cases to absorb.
@chestermeh@KNmeh7@msten I’ve got a true story related to this “issue”.
A while ago I wanted to purchase a White Castle (yum) mini pack from the sandwich machine at work. While inserting money I noticed that the price was $1.50 less than what they were charging previously. Do I
A: Continue to purchase the item
B: Find a different item then call the vending company and report what could be an error
I’m sorry but I was hungry for a whitey and I chose A.
AND I bought an extra one to put in the fridge for later and then proceeded to tell my coworkers that there was a sale today on White Castle cheeseburgers
Do you keep extra change from a cashier? No. Especially when they have to make up any shortages!
Vending machine pricing? Gray area, could be the vending stocker was getting back at their company … OR that was the new pricing.
Online purchases? Do you like Deals? Because sticklers for “absolute” prices can drive them out of business. Bringing in Contract Law? Questionable. Because from what I’ve seen, while they put a hold on your purchase, you aren’t ACTUALLY charged until shipment has occurred.
Morally, it’s stealing to insist that they honor their mistake.
@MarkDaSpark Agree completely. I ordered with the expectation that it 1) it could be cancelled, 2) I would be notified of the mistake and asked if I wanted to accept 4 bottles or cancel my order (or pay an up-charge for six), or 3) I might get what I ordered. But I would be happiest with the third possibility.
We were once purchasing a (rather expensive) new mattress. The salesman said he would knock $400 off the price and sell it for $XXXX, and I accepted his offer. When we got to the counter, he mentioned that he had made a mistake and what he had said was actually $500 off the “sticker” price. I told him that I had no intention of holding him to a mistake like that, but he sold it for the price he said. I left a bit happier, and I’m sure the store still made a nice profit and probably he a nice commission.
Because from what I’ve seen, while they put a hold on your purchase,
you aren’t ACTUALLY charged until shipment has occurred.
No; payment is essentially immediate. I cheerfully jumped on this deal (knowing that CM might to cancel and credit) and my card was charged - not just held - on the 21st.
Super confusing that I just clicked on this (from the email) and it shows a 6 pack (which I attempted to order) but seems to be unavailable? If it’s a mistake, it probably should be wiped off the page.

I think @mediocrebot has had too much wine.
@kawichris650 yeah, definitely doesn’t add up. Clearly it’s 4 or 12 bottles.
@kawichris650 @klezman
Working on the correction…
@kawichris650 @mediocrebot !!
Wait, do I really get six bottles for $80?!?!
Always jump on a mistake fare before it goes away.
I have no use for g the enTycement but the Ty’s Red is great stuff in past vintages.
Price(or quantity) mistake on the half-case? If it’s still available tomorrow I’ll send a half case to my Mom. She prefers Cab’s, but a deal is a deal.
Interesting pricing strategy. . .in for 6. Had to restrain myself from doing 2x6.
@winedan Can’t wait to see @chipgreen 's pricing post on this one!

I recall when he visited us on the old site…
@rjquillin thank you!
@WineTy Good to see you. Drop in more often and chat up your offers. This, imo, should have been a sell out.

I do visit forums and care more
than I have ever cared before
@WineTy nice bit of pricing controversy here, eh?
@TimW @WineTy
Good to see you again, despite the messy start…
Still need to finish off that last 2001 Merlot from the tour supper.
If you still have that 01 merlot drink it!
@WineTy
Hope you had an amazing birthday Ty!
That was at David’s place
Right?
@WineTy yup, and I do! I’m just slow getting around to bottles it seems.
Don’t really get involved or have paid attention to any pricing issues. I hope it all works out.
