With savory aromas and a deep luscious color, this much-loved wine strokes your palate with flavors of dark cherry, blackberry and cassis. The thick velvety texture gives way to toasty oak and finishes with just a hint of chocolate. Enjoy with your favorite grilled meats.

2015 Ty Caton Vineyards Ty’s Red - $42 = 16.65%
@ddeuddeg@noodles Sure I’ll split 3 ways, shipped it to McKinley Pkwy, wasn’t thinking, should have sent to my office then diverted to OP Rd, will let you know when it comes in.
@catcoland@ddeuddeg yes! I wanted 4-6 so this will be perfect! Just out of curiosity, are blends like these ok for aging or better consumed within a year or two?
@catcoland@ddeuddeg oh I just realized I’m going to be out of town most of may. So I’ll have to meet up in June sometime when I get back. I hope that’s not a problem.
Oh no, I usually autobuy Ty but I can’t even reach my cellar right now. Too much wine and now wine stacked in front of it… Will have to pass on this one.
@johnnelson7333@kapok6 John I think…I’m in the same position. but likely wouldn’t complain if I got stuck with 2. I got a feeling the next 2 weeks at Sigel’s might get me in trouble. Hell… and who knows whats coming here next. But… I’ve always heard so much about Ty and never had the joy of it.
@bent80@kapok6@MSUMike@vrvallejo
We will- we’ve gone in on what feels like 1/3 of the offers with various people in and out. Good to know! Yes- the WeddingIWBM I imagine is a tough one!
Imagine my surprise when I found out I was chosen for a blind date with a Casemates surprise for a Thursday night! Since I don’t like a one on one wine experience, I found a few other friends to join us!
Since none of us are professional wine tasters, but like to pretend, I placed the bottle in a brown paper bag to help ensure we didn’t have any preconceived notions of what we were about to try.
We didn’t bother decanting it since most of the time when I drink wine, I usually forget to plan ahead. That makes it a quick sprint to get it in the glass, and I wanted it to be an accurate representation of how I typically drink wine.
Initial thoughts:
The group consensus is that it sticks to the glass nicely, has a great dark red/purple maroon color and is very opaque.
On the smell, it was a bit strong on the alcohol smell with a berry smell.
For the initial taste, we decided it had a berry/wild berry flavor mixed with leather and a hint of smokiness. It was very smooth and dry, my favorite!
There wasn’t too much mouth feel and the flavor didn’t linger on your tongue (in a good way). It would definitely pair excellent with a nice Ribeye steak.
Since we didn’t have a ribeye handy, I was only able to try pairing it with a few things.
Didn’t really pair well with the dark chocolate
Really pairs well with Gruyere Cheese
Doesn’t quite pair as well with Brie Cheese
Honestly it is excellent by itself and really doesn’t need a pairing.
Once we got the initial tastings done, we chatted for a bit and I had the friends guess what kind of wine it was. They guessed Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
The label on the bottle is really nice quality and will definitely impress anyone who has the pleasure of getting a bottle.
After some more chatting, we poured the remainder to the group and decided, the nose smell mellowed out significantly and was more berry/smokey
The tasting notes turned more even… balanced berry flavors and a finish of cocoa
Final thoughts:
It definitely needs to be decanted. Very smooth once it airs out, and I would suspect the bottles will only get better with age. Now the tough decision is 4 bottles or a case…
And from Wine Enthusiast:
86 Points
Syrah comprises 55% of this blend, followed by 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot and 3% Merlot. Smoky oak encases compressed, meaty blackberry and big notions of tannin and oak. The finish flirts with overripe heat. 2/1/18 VB
I have really enjoyed this wine in past vintages, the alc’s up a bit which im not huge on and I also really have not cared for Ty’s syrah so the large syrah component gives me pause as well.
@losthighwayz FBR was an insta-buy for me. I didn’t find the earlier vintages of Ty’s Red to be the same wine, and at closer to $30/btl than $15, the QPR just wasn’t there. If I didn’t still have most of the older vintage, I might have been a buyer here…
Not sure where to start on this post? Ok first, welcome TY CATON to Casemates and thanks for this offer! If you had other offers on this site, I sadly missed them or OH was left off. You happen to be in my top five wine producers and always an AUTOBUY! It seems like centuries ago when OH was no longer available on your WW offers. And currently I’m down to 33 bottles in my stash! Whew, SAVED!! Second, to @David49 and the Wine Gods for making this offer happen and for getting OH back on Ty’s Ship to List. My son and my beautiful soon to be daughter-in-law are getting married this Fall and this wine will make it’s appearance at their celebration feast!! But that’s only if they treat me nice and I don’t drink it first!! TY and DAVID, you made my day!!
@Boatman72@rjquillin@Winedavid49
I’m hoping he will make an appearance over the weekend. I so very much appreciate when the winemakers chime in. Their participation is invaluable.
SE MI interested in a split? I’m considering getting a case and wouldn’t mind splitting if you’re interested, but also wouldn’t mind keeping it all if you’re not…
By coincidence, I just finished a bottle of Ty’s Red 2010 a few days ago - it was delicious and stood out as one of the best bottles that I’ve had recently. Am glad to be able to restock some more Ty’s Red.
@drtroppo I bought 9 of those from wine.woot back in 2012. It seems it was a completely different blend back then. Mostly a Syrah now, the 2010 was 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 18% Syrah, 2% Petite Sirah
@George24 Hi George24. Great to see more interest here in WNY. I’m in South Buffalo. I’ve already got a 3-way split with people in Ellicottville and in the airport area, and don’t really need more, but if someone else pops up with interest by tomorrow afternoon, I’ll join in to help out, and I’ll see if the Elmwood Village guy is interested. Keep an eye out.
@George24@catcoland is willing to split. Just let me know how many you want, and he and I can split the rest. I can order it, and I get free shipping. Let me know if you’re still interested.
@George24 It would be good to get a response here, since I’m reluctant to order a whole case, with my cellar over-full already. Let me know if you’re still interested.
@noodles yes! I wanted 4-6 so this will be perfect!
Just throwing this out there as an option, since @noodles was considering 6 and the case I ordered is being shipped to Fedex on McKinley Pkwy I could split it 6 each with @George24 and @ddeuddeg could order a case to split with @noodles?
@George are you still interested in a split and if so how many did you want?
I opened a bottle of this last night, it’s drinking very nicely, saved half for tonight and I’m sure it’ll be even better. Looking forward to having more.
@catcoland@George24@noodles Sounds like one way or another we can manage 2 cases. We can wait to hear from @George24 about how much he wants and sort out the details, but meanwhile, I’ve ordered the other case. Sure is nice having a bunch of friendly folks around to share with. Haven’t heard from @lamplighter in a while, though.
I looked through about 20 maroon capsules in the cellar, some Cabs, Merlot, lots of Petite Verdot, some PS, some TyTanium, and finally found one. A 2010 Ty’s Red. Pop-N-Pour, stick my nose in and … yeah, wonderful aroma, full range of red and black fruits, cassis, vanilla just detected. Not a trace of an artificial or alcohol smell. The taste is likewise fabulous. The full harmony. No lack, anywhere on the palate. Smooth, but just enough tannin to state that it’s a real wine. If you’re on the fence, jump!
@drtroppo@rjquillin I did read that, above, and yes, apples and oranges, but…my point is that Ty Caton makes some excellent wines, and I’d bet this is one of them. (It is ethical to make that point to everyone who’s considering a purchase)
NH - there was no interest on the southern NH northern MA mailing list but I ordered a case anyway. Still splittable, if there is interest whisper at me or join the list. https://groups.google.com/d/forum/casemates-southernnh
I am new to the giphy thing. Looks fun, though. I will try at the end.
Not new to the Ty Caton wines, though. Went looking last night and found 2 bottles of 2003 TyTanium and a 2008 Racchus. Had to look it up and I miss the days when we would get 10 pages of comments:
I opened the Racchus and it was much as described in 2010: needs some decanting. It’s mellowed and wasn’t nearly as harsh as the review from 2010 “unholy combination of IHOP boysenberry syrup and gasoline” (great quote BTW). Even back then most agreed it was an excellent wine once given some air and regretted not buying more. To avoid similar regrets I ordered.
Hi Casemates, sorry I am late to the party. I was wrapped tight with some event planning and events the last two days and it’s not over yet. I hope everyone that bought this wine enjoys it. It’s got something for everybody, a versatile crowd pleaser. It drinks well now with some decanting as was talked about earlier in the community, but also ages well. The very first iteration of this wine, the 2005 Field Blend (I have 5 bottles left) doesn’t show any sign of being over the hill as of a few months ago. I’ll do my best to answer any questions in the chat later today. Again, my thanks and congrats to WineDavid and the crew on the new site! Very exciting.
@WineTy Thanks for joining us Ty. Great more wines I should age…haha. So thankful to finally get to try some of your wines. Always missed on the ww offers. Please bring back some other goodies soon
@WineTy did you say field blend??? Crap, saw this too late and am only getting a few from a split case. For the better from a wallet perspective, but now I know for next time!!!
The Ty’s Red is on its way. Not being judgmental, but it looks like @George24 is not interested after all, so unless we hear from him, we’ll be splitting 2 cases amongst the four of us. I know @noodles said she’d take 6. I don’t know how many @lamplighter wants (please chime in), and not meaning to speak for @catcoland, but I’m sure he and I can agree on some way to manage the rest. We can figure out the specific distribution details eventually, but I’m in the Sweet Home/Sheridan vicinity with considerable frequency, if that helps, and noodles and I have found a working plan, so I can handle the ones that aren’t heading in a southerly direction.
@ddeuddeg@noodles@lamplighter@George24 I got the shipping notice as well, tentative delivery next Monday. I’ll keep the entire case or any portion, I now can share some here too. We could split both cases with 6 each, if someone wants 4 I can take the excess. My case is shipping to the northtowns, I’ll arange to meet whoever I’m splitting with, any day next week could work.
Hi
I have or at least thought I have made everyone aware that I was all set with the Ty Caton order. I guess I was replying to the wrong place. Thanks to everyone who responded!
George
@ddeuddeg@lamplighter@noodles I’ll see if I can redirect my case to the OP Rd Fedex if that’s where yours is going @ddeuddeg. It sounds like you might be able to connect with @lamplighter without going out of your way? If that’s the case I can bring the other 3 bottles I have for you and take home whatever is left of the Ty’s Red.
@catcoland@lamplighter@noodles According to the tracking info, it could be here Monday. 6 bottles for noodles, 4 for lamplighter, 6 for me, leaves you with 8, if that’s OK. I can have mine diverted to OP Rd. or McMall, whichever is better for you, just let me know. Going “out of my way” is virtually never a factor, I can always find something else nearby and kill two birds with one stone, so I’ll take care of handling anything north of 20A.
@ddeuddeg@lamplighter@noodles I diverted my case to OP Rd Fedex so I’ll meet you there some day next week. Thanks for handling lamplighter & noodles share!

George
@George24 Thanks for letting us know. If you’re ever interested in sharing an offer or looking for help putting together a case to save $$, you know there are others who will chime in.
Did any of you order both the Ty Caton and Kendrick’s P N? My tracking slip said that the Kendrick was ready for pickup at my local Walgreens. When I unboxed the package which came in beautiful Styrofoam missile silos I found my Ty red blend order. The next day my tracking slip said the Ty was in. Upon opening I discovered the Kendrick. No big deal just curious if anyone had this happen.

(Note: Tax & Shipping not included in savings calculations)
2015 Ty Caton Vineyards Ty’s Red - $42 = 16.65%
The case price here just kills the CT average of $27.59/btl that closely matches the last WW mixed red offer that averaged the same. per bottle.
I do still miss WW.
@rjquillin FWIW, previously offered on WS for $23.99
@rjquillin I bought that last WW offer, haven’t touched it yet but at this price in for a case.
@catcoland wanna share part of this case?
@catcoland otherwise @ddeuddeg?
@catcoland @noodles I love Ty’s Red. I’m good for a 3-way split if you’re both interested.
@ddeuddeg @noodles Sure I’ll split 3 ways, shipped it to McKinley Pkwy, wasn’t thinking, should have sent to my office then diverted to OP Rd, will let you know when it comes in.
@catcoland @ddeuddeg yes! I wanted 4-6 so this will be perfect! Just out of curiosity, are blends like these ok for aging or better consumed within a year or two?
@catcoland @noodles Even better after a year or two. Ty’s wines are usually pretty tight for a while, and mellow nicely with aging.
@catcoland @ddeuddeg lovely! I don’t know if I’ll be able to keep them around that long but sounds like it’s worth a try!
@catcoland @ddeuddeg oh I just realized I’m going to be out of town most of may. So I’ll have to meet up in June sometime when I get back. I hope that’s not a problem.
@ddeuddeg @noodles Not a problem at all.
Oh no, I usually autobuy Ty but I can’t even reach my cellar right now. Too much wine and now wine stacked in front of it… Will have to pass on this one.
Dangit… DFW?
Well think I better pass

@Boatman72 @kapok6 @MSUMike
We do have all four seasons here it’s just that summer lasts for 8 months!
@MSUMike @vrvallejo @kapok6
Looks like we have a 4 way split. Who’s gonna pull the trigger on this one?

Awesome! I haven’t had any of this since the 2011 vintage. Been hoping it would show up here. In for a case!
@IanMorr I’ve still got some 2011 vintage around! And remember the TyTanium?
@caffeineguy I have a single bottle of that TyTanium left. That was great too.
Looking around for a case split in the RDU, NC area.
Here’s the Data sheet for the wine.

@CorTot is this the Ty formerly known as the Field Blend?
@losthighwayz I think the field blend was more rustic.
This feels More like a tytanium jr.
Like a higher end table wine.

Anyone in the Oakland, CA area want to split a case?
For the NC San Diego crowd, if anyone wants to pop for a case, I’d take a couple bottles…back to being out of space in the vinotheque…
STL here. In for a case. Will split if interest. If not, more for me. Ty’s juice is a favorite dinner wine with great QPR.
@mike808 Interested if you still want to split
SE MI interested in a split? I’m considering getting a case and wouldn’t mind splitting if you’re interested, but also wouldn’t mind keeping it all if you’re not…

@WineTy I can confirm that the '05 FB, in my totally unbiased opinion, is still drinking well. I’m down to my last couple of bottles. Darn.
@ddeuddeg @WineTy That wine was one of my all-time favorites, a revelation even.

@ddeuddeg @noodles @lamplighter @George24 I got the shipping notice as well, tentative delivery next Monday. I’ll keep the entire case or any portion, I now can share some here too. We could split both cases with 6 each, if someone wants 4 I can take the excess. My case is shipping to the northtowns, I’ll arange to meet whoever I’m splitting with, any day next week could work.
@ddeuddeg @George24 @lamplighter @noodles
Thanks George, maybe another time!
@lamplighter @ddeuddeg @noodles lets confirm how many bottles you’d like and we’ll coordinate the split.
@catcoland @ddeuddeg @George24 @lamplighter great to hear. I’ll take 6 from @ddeuddeg when I get back next month. Thanks for coordinating.
@catcoland @George24 @lamplighter @noodles Hopefully we will get together with George some way sometime. As soon as we get something from @lamplighter, we can coordinate the rest of the split.
@catcoland @ddeuddeg @George24 @noodles Hi all, I’ll take 3 or 4 - whichever you want to part with. I’m not far from Sheridan and Millersport
@ddeuddeg @lamplighter @noodles I’ll see if I can redirect my case to the OP Rd Fedex if that’s where yours is going @ddeuddeg. It sounds like you might be able to connect with @lamplighter without going out of your way? If that’s the case I can bring the other 3 bottles I have for you and take home whatever is left of the Ty’s Red.
@catcoland @lamplighter @noodles According to the tracking info, it could be here Monday.
@ddeuddeg @lamplighter @noodles I diverted my case to OP Rd Fedex so I’ll meet you there some day next week. Thanks for handling lamplighter & noodles share!
@catcoland @lamplighter @noodles Sounds like a plan. Mine is now headed there as well. Glad to help.
Hi
I have or at least thought I have made everyone aware that I was all set with the Ty Caton order. I guess I was replying to the wrong place. Thanks to everyone who responded!
George
@George24 Thanks for letting us know. If you’re ever interested in sharing an offer or looking for help putting together a case to save $$, you know there are others who will chime in.
This is up at invino for $19.99.
fwiw
Did any of you order both the Ty Caton and Kendrick’s P N? My tracking slip said that the Kendrick was ready for pickup at my local Walgreens. When I unboxed the package which came in beautiful Styrofoam missile silos I found my Ty red blend order. The next day my tracking slip said the Ty was in. Upon opening I discovered the Kendrick. No big deal just curious if anyone had this happen.
