@JOATMON ditto, except for the wine.woot part. While still wooting (which is so meh these days) they weren’t shipping to Meh-aine, and even then the shipping costs were not friendly. So with VMP, even if the prices are higher, it will feel better somehow to get wine (or other goodies) shipped for “free”!
dbarrym here…bummed to see Woot.Wine go, having been a charter (2004) Woot member and frequent wine/cheese/related buyer… looking forward to seeing how this develops.
@MarkDaSpark we created a category function to help sort future Gathering topics posted here. It’s sort of like a separate forum overlayed on top of the General forum. If any are posted, you can get to them quickly by clicking the Gatherings filter option in the top header. If they become too noisy, we can exclude them from the main view.
Congrats WD. In for the Kickstarter. Not very vocal on the wine.woot forums, but many years, hundreds of bottles, and even a gathering later, I’m glad to see it’s not over. P.S. still waiting for my certificate from Winefarm for the challenge back in …2008?
I’m in for the early-bird Kickstarter. Can’t wait to see the forum badge. Maybe something like an upside-down broken Erlenmeyer flask?
I never bought anything from wine.woot (but I did buy both of meh’s wine offerings). My favorite local Nevada County winemaker just retired, though, so I’ve been wondering where I’d make up for that.
How I found you: the email from signing up for the WCC notification.
@looseneck That’s cool, my father’s father and his mother’s parents were also from Poland. It may not be the prettiest country in the world, OK it definitely isn’t, but the people are wonderful, the food and vodka are good and the cost of living is low. And Polish women are intelligent, strong, and absolutely beautiful, as you probably know. I would like to hear more about your parents and how they came to the US. You can email me with my username here @outlook.com if you like.
I knew WineDavid would come through with a new iteration of Wine.Woot! My initial reaction was shock, but after literally a few minutes I knew this idea and this community would survive! Congrats!
@Lighter some formatting are passed through with contextual instructions to the text editor (ha pun not intended) so asterisks and underlines can change formatting without clicking explicit bold/header functions. Sometimes the automation gets ya.
Amongst other improvements, readability of the forums on mobile devices is primary a big gain vs other forum code.
@Lighter Just as an additional FYI, the mediocre forums use (an expanded version of) markdown for formatting. If some formatting issue ever goes wacky, turning to the md reference might explain it.
Bummer! I clicked on the KickStarter link before I got to the end of the email (I was too excited to see what was happening!) and didn’t see any difference between the $50 and $60 membership so I took the $50. Only after going back and finishing the email did I see the potential benefit for the $60 level (which I would have taken). Is there any way to “upgrade” my KickStarter level?
@Mark_L I’m hoping the 50 is exactly the same as the 60 as the coupons are from WCC for those subscribers. Maybe @WineDavid49 can clarify si know if I need to change my pledge.
I certainly was never the staple WW member that some of you were, but I needed my Scott Harvey fix every now and then. Here’s to rebuilding that community at Casemates and finding new bottles to enjoy.
This is jimjacks66 from wine.woot and BlackIce on cellartracker. I contributed on the kickstarter page. Am looking forward to the community interaction and wine buying fun here. Let’s hope it all comes together!
I was only a lurker on the forums, but I was sad to see WW go right as I was able to start ordering wine again. Glad to see it’s going to live on without the mothership with some great Kickstarter perks as well! Thanks @Mark_L for the heads up on updating pledge as I did the same thing you did!
Happy this is shifting as many of us were hoping. I’m also hoping shipping laws and their interpretations will be better than what Amazon was forcing. Any advanced thoughts you can share, @WineDavid49 ?
Also looking forward to throwing a remote party and being a VMP again. WOOT…eeerrrrr…MEH!
Blockquote
At this time the following states are excluded: Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Hawaii, Kentucky, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Utah.)
Blockquote
So most states blocked by the Mothership’s uptight attorneys should be rejoicing!
Awesome to see this starting up again. I was hooked ever since the beta on wine.woot! Thanks to coolchris160 for posting the Kickstarter info on wine.woot. I didn’t get any other notification about this site!
We need Matt to do a kickoff party here in DFW as well, at the new co-mothership warehouse!
And BTW: the reset password link sends you an email with an empty URL, and the email address for help bounces too… Like the good ole days of the internet, shits broke…
Longtime lurker on that site no longer to be named. Happy to be a charter backer for the evolution. Is it too early in the morning to pop a few corks in celebration? Thanks WD!
Ahhhh this looks nice! I brought a fresh name haha to this fresh start (used to be jcassens). Looking forward to supporting this and getting it off the ground!
Hello all! Longtime w.w forum lurker/orderer, so happy to see this new venture! In for the remote party - and how is it possible I’m not seeing a wine glass emoji in the list here??
Wait, i also backed at the $50 early bird…don’t see anything on the non-early bird $60 level of the three certificates, only mentioned in the email from WCC. Can we get a clarification on that, so I know if I should switch my pledge? TIA.
@communistjack@oppsie I think a lot of the people are coming here from WCC (or something like that) and they get coupons from being members there already based on my reading between the lines here. For those of us who were already vmp members at Meh, we also get the coupon benefit as a thank you for signing up.
@communistjack@winedavid49 yes, this is in the WCC email. My question is will it happen seamlessly if I pick the $60 (or, as I did, $50 early bird) level on kickstarter, or will something more have to be done?
So happy to see this, and see so many of my favorite winos.
/giphy question
Quick Q: Does the $60 pledge also include an additional year of VMP for current VMP members?
And has anyone gotten RPM to agree to arrange a tour including the tent party yet?
@mother from comments on Kickstarter:
Yes, existing VMPs will have the 12 months added as an extension. If we reach funding level, the backer survey will let you link to that account name. A clarifying email will be sent later today. Thanks for your support!
So just what kind of prices should we expect on these bottles/cases? Are we talking $3/bottle “wine” my neighbor keeps trying to sell me or legit fancy stuff at a slight discount of $25/bottle?
@MarkDaSpark And that’s where the issue is. I don’t drink wine too often. Maybe just once or twice a year when I have family over for Thanksgiving. The wine I get is like Gallo Cafe Zinfandel which is available at Walmart for around $8 for a 1.5 liter bottle. It’s very good and sweet. I’m not willing to pay much more for a case of wine that I’ve never had before and risk not liking it. $10 - $20 for a 750 ml bottle is way out of my price range.
I’m also one of those weird people that doesn’t like Starbucks coffee. I prefer the Dunkin doughnuts. I’m not a snob when it comes to drinking. I don’t care if my drink is Pepsi, Coke, Root Beer, Sprite, 7up, diet or sugar, or just water. I’ll just buy whatever is on sale during that shopping event.
@cengland0, Ah, but that is where we come in! Since the offers are Monday/Wednesday/Friday, we get a chance to discuss the wines before buying! Hopefully the winemakers will pop in as well, just like they did on WW.
Also the “Special Tasting Panel”, aka Labrats or Grape Debaters, will provide tasting notes on the wines. If you know what styles the Labrats like, then you can know if you will like the wine as well. Many on the WW forums have learned how to do this.
Also, the lots will vary in the number of bottles. They should vary from 1 bottle (very expensive bottles) up to 12, but the average (to me) seems to be from 2 to 6 bottles, where you can get 1, 2, or 3 sets.
We’ve had great member participation on WW, and I’m sure we’ll have it here as well! We have a lot if threads helping each other out, whether it’s building Wine Cubes (to hold wine) or discussing building up your wine knowledge (Wine Tasting for Newbies at wine.woot) to recipes for sangrias and food.
@cengland0 Hmm, I thought everyone secretly hated Starbucks coffee and preferred Dunkin’ Donuts, because Starbucks is over-roasted and also functions as a laxative for many.
@MarkDaSpark That addresses the tasting issue but not the price problem.
I also like cheese and nuts and Woot sold those on Wine.woot too but I’m not going to pay $30 for a pound of cheese when I buy the stuff in bulk at Sams, Costco, and BJ’s. The difference between expensive cheese and cheap cheese is so subtle that it’s not worth the huge price increase to me.
@mossygreen hehe, secretly hated. You’re probably right and people go there because it’s trendy and people want to show off to their friends that they know a lot about coffee.
I remember before I got my keurig that I would make a pot of coffee and then drink my normal cup. Later, I would put the cold coffee in the microwave to heat it up. It’s good enough for me but those starbucks people cannot have coffee that was ground over 15 minutes ago.
“Fresh ground” is traditional for espresso drinks.
You would find the same practice at the cheap street places (for the tradespeople and workers) in Italy, or at any espresso bar in Little Italy (not fancy places) going back a century or more.
Not invented by Starbucks.
The over-roasting seems to be a signature thing for them tho.
@North316 True, but I was thinking of this direct quote from a girl named Charity in 1996: “I love Starbucks, but it gives me the shits.” I have heard similar but less evocative statements from others over the years.
@cengland0 Is it a coincidence that the omnipresence of Starbucks seemed to happen after they introduced the Frappucinos and other milky, sugary, high-calorie drinks? I think not.
@cengland0 I go to Starbucks for a couple reasons - never having to do with “image”…
It is so easy to get free or really cheap SB gift cards so I figure the average cost per dollar on my SB account is around 50 cents or less. That makes the straight black coffee I buy reasonably priced.
Easy Stars to earn free drinks means I can get $7 drinks for my spouse.
The above reasonably priced Vente (and free refills into my Meh-Bubba tumbler) makes for a cheap chair/table rental fee to get together with friends without alcohol.
Our SB has one of the rare Reserve Bars - that is where the image folks sit!
@mossygreen I publicly hate Starschmucks coffee. As you say, it is over-roasted, though it does not have a laxative effect on me. I prefer 7-Eleven to Dunkin Donuts, since I am able to fix my coffee the way I want without having to speak to a person about it.
However, I almost never buy coffee outside of occasional swill at work (when we are out of beans or not feeling like making an effort). Freshly ground beans is the main secret to good coffee.
@slicknik82 for me, it is simply paying attention and looking for them. Examples…
Answering surveys - both individual marketing surveys and surveys from survey companies. Even our local paper gives them away. Often the reward is a free Starbucks or Amazon card.
Did a test drive of a Subaru (was interested anyway) and got a $20 preloaded Subaru-SB tumbler that could be registered to a SB acct and transferred.
Various reward programs - an example - sign up for an outlook.com email address and get daily quizzes that link to Bing pages… that generate points to redeem for the cards.
Gifts from friends. If they know you go to SB, it is an easy no-brainer gift.
Watch deals sites like Dealnews for SB and Gift card company promos for discounted cards. SB themselves occasionally offers big discounts but they sell out quickly!
A key tip - sometimes the discounted cards have a portion of the value in “promotional” value that expires within a number of days (I detest those since we only go to SB every other week or so at most)… register the card to your SB account and immediately transfer the entire balance of the card to another card, washing away the promo-expiration.
Welp, was active for a long time early on then fell off a bit. Was just starting to reengage on W.w. and was sad thinking I was almost too late. Glad to see this opportunity come up and hope to be able to stick around here now!
According to my hubs, we are basically dead center of the county. Haha who knew, I grew up in the Lansing area. Lived here for 5 years and still getting my bearings.
Looking forward to the new iteration! In for a party, whether here or in Sonoma!
Should the $100 backers be able to add VMP for less than the full $50/60 for those awards alone?
Really glad to see this get going. Not a frequent ww contributor, but definite lurker and occasional buyer. New name replacing the old cheeeese. Also excited to back the kickstarter.
Now, if you can get some of the Wellington stuff that is still out there - and get it to Connecticut - that would be something (by a different distribution model
/ being a reseller for example)…
Wait, there was an “early bird $50 offer” and yet meh.com only notified their VMPs after that was gone? sadface
… the $100 tier (launch party) is confusing - so that does NOT include VMP?
And - to be a labrat now you basically have to buy it? Difficult for people from the east coast
Count me in, scary thought since now I can’t use the evil Amazon as my reason for not buying wine. Interested to learn more about the logistics of this case sharing model.
@schripsemas You can login here using your Meh/MorningSave/Mediocre Labs login, as you seem to have already figured out since I see the VMP badge next to your name. I’m assuming they’ll send a link when its funded and launches.
How about the VMPs (especially the ones who’ve purchased a meh-branded wine) who pledge get in on the lab ratting as a perk?
$10 certificates are nice, and helps lessen the pain paying $5 every month only to pass on candy corn, fanny packs, and 480p security cameras; however, I thought it was “never can become a VMP again” and here come all these fancy highfalutin wine folk getting all my perks too? Say it ain’t so.
Pledged $60, but don’t like the idea of people buying to become a rat, but maybe I should as I never got lucky enough on wine.woot. Long live wine.meh.com, er, casemates. Someone get Peter an account.
it wasn’t a never vmp again , it was more of
if we keep letting EVERYONE join vmp , they will keep losing money on shipping(normal people paying for shipping is what made it possible for vmps to get shipping for free without affecting product prices)
now that enough time has passed and there is a new business venture (with new VMP perks) they will allow vmp signups via kickstarter for now
but after a year the kickstaters go back to paying for shipping, while the older vmps can still keep getting all the vmp benefits for only$5 a month
@communistjack@KNmeh7 I read elsewhere that Kickstarter VMPs would be allowed to continue their VMP membership (at $5/month, of course) after the first year.
@KNmeh7@rpstrong you are right, after a year the kickstaters are going to be the same $5 a month paying vmps members (as long as the saved payment works )
Thanks for the email…In at $60!
I’ve been on the wine.woot (same username, davidgrahammd) for a number of years and I may still have a bottle or 2 of the inhouse label magnum (Polyphemus, 2007) red that should get drank one of these days!! I may have also been a regular buyer of the balsamic…just sayin’
Anyway, really glad to see it continue and I’m glad to help it happen
Cheers!!
Hi all! I saw mention of this on the meh forum this morning but when I was notified by email I decided to join in the fun! I saw Wine.Woot ut never got into it. Just didn’t like the Woot place all that much. I don’t know much about wine,“good” or not. I only know i’ll drink it. Some of it needs help and there are many things that can help out a bottle. I am game! Besides my Dad always is the most difficult person to buy a gift for so… maybe I have just found the answer! This sounds like a good time!!! And I’ll learn stuff along the way. Thanks for the chance to get involved.
Woohoo! Glad people are moving over here too! Longtime vmp member here so this is a great add. Can’t wait to see the new deals. Hopefully some of the old wineries can rejoin too.
Congratulations to WD and his staff!! On 12/01/2005, after trying some wine my son purchased from wine.woot, I became a member and at last count the total wine bottles that came through the front door equaled 141 cases! If I saved all those bottles, I could have built a man wine cave in the back yard! And it’s funny that recently two people asked me if they could buy wine from me for their personal consumption and gifts so this venture of Casemate has a niche and a following before it starts. It will be great to hear the process details of the case split! I’m in with the rest of all of you so I better get back to drinking up my stock!
Hi, I’m a long-time Wooter (meandsecoya) who was never really active in the forums, Meh Kickstarter, and a long-time vmp member who is less active in the forums than I used to be. I mostly pledged the Casemates Kickstarter to pay my vmp all at once, get a free shirt, and get some coupons. Sadly, I don’t know enough about wine to make online purchases of it.
Delighted to see this community will continue to exist. I’ve not actively posted in the past but have been a pretty avid reader to understand the offerings.
Bring on the wine! Long-time VMPer, and now Kickstarter backer. Here’s hoping that most of the wine can get shipped to MA, otherwise I’ll be just yelling obscenities at the clouds every time I see a case I’d want to get.
I never got to buy from WW but I’ve been a MEH VMP for a while and I think it’s well…Meh… Still I believe in the business model for casemates and the idea of being able to get others feedback about wines. We all have to believe in something…I believe I’ll have another sip!
Glad to see the process, forum and people have all carried over. I’m excited to see where this goes and what new ground we’ll cover.
I was thinking the other day that it’s been nice to be able to keep some of my paycheck but if this is anything like the glory days of ww I can kiss it all goodbye again. Here’s to the best/worst depending on the optics!
In for $60 on Kickstarter after receiving an email from Meh this morning. Looking forward to getting some good wine and learning more about splitting cases with people near Cupertino, CA.
Got the email from WCC, and figured WD and Snapster would reconnect and launch wine.meh, ww.ng, ww2.0 or as we now know, Casemates. In for the $60 VMP prepayment level. Missed the $50 Early Bird version.
Guessing it will be wine only, so we’ll still have to go back to gourmet.woot for our Cavedoni balsamic, Beehive cheese, and Candy Basket replenishments.
@datruandi ,WineDavid39 added the link to his sig line, and it was in the announcement thread.
It was at the very top of the WCC website. You only got the email from WCC if you signed up and got a confirmation email. First time I signed up,I didn’t get the confirmation, and had to sign up again.
@MarkDaSpark I guess I missed all of it might have happened when I was tied up with some family emergencies. And if you mean to “apply to be a labrat” - I believe I did that. Not sure if I got a confirmation email. Too long ago. But that is “gone” now anyways, I assume.
@datruandi, there was initially a sign-up for Grape Debaters (the replacement program for the LabRat one) a while back when they launched it. Once the announcement was made about WW becoming Gourmet, they added a new link at the top to get the email about this. Don’t remember, but I believe you got a confirmation email both times.
I was very active on wine.woot using my login there (different alias) until some family emergencies and then we moved to a different state that was often on the “do not ship to XYZ” list.
I also found wine.woot was in the last few years getting too expensive for the quality often (sorry). I tried “angels” but didn’t like it (other than their promotional cases once in a while).
Lately I see myself crashing Total Wine and More - even though they are the evil empire in some regards - as they simply have best availability combined with good offers here.
@connorbush I got the email after seeing the topic in the meh forums, but my email was likely different from yours since mine was of the ‘ex-VMP’ variety. But the subject was ‘Help Launch our New Site’
I certainly wasn’t a known name at wine.woot, though I always read the discussions for wine that interested me, listened to what the vintners had to say, etc. Was sad to learn of its demise, it was the only part of woot I really gave a hoot about, and a big part of it was the discussion aspect. If anyone can keep that spirit alive, I believe it’s mediocre. I was hoping this was what the accidentally-leaked Casemates was going to be.
P.S. You should get Quady on board… With Amazon also dropping out of the wine game I don’t know how I’ll buy mass quantities of vermouth anymore!
I hardly ever post on meh and periodically on the old evil woot! site, but I am a big fan of Matt Rutledge and wanted to help him get this off the ground; hell, I might even buy a case or two. Never have tried buying wine since you have to be home to accept the shipment but since I’m retired I can plan my time better. Good luck!
Used to buy on wine.woot all the time when I lived in TX, but pretty much stopped when I moved to Philly since they rarely shipped to PA, and I couldn’t be bothered to sort through constantly to find the few that did. Now that the state finally got a clue and is allowing more wine shipments (Wine clubs have been a good way around that rule anyway, which you could totally call this!), I’m hopeful I can indulge again. In for the year of VMP+remote party, because the tasting panel sounds fun!
I’m not a drinker, but I just wanted to say ‘HI’ and thanks for the offer! Good to know that I’m still in your database. lol
Happy New Year, everybody!
I really want to back this, I used to love wine woot when I lived in Michigan. But since I moved to Pennsylvania it seems like my state is forgotten. Yeah we are technically supported but only seems like once a month. I loved Woot cellars but yet could never get anything I liked shipped to me
Back in the early days I used to get a lot of wine.woot and cheese, chocolates etc. Now living in Brazil, starting an adventure of a couple of years, but I think I’m going to go for the kickstarter to get my mom some wines and party material for the new year.
I’m in. I don’t drink much wine, but I’m interested in trying it out. Since I’m already VMP, I may as well pre-pay for a year and get $30 in coupons to go with it. I’m glad to get more of a benefit from VMP as someone who hasn’t bought much on the site but has been a member for a couple years.
@borisgoodenough It’ll vary by vineyard, and, so, by deal but I’ll quote from the Kickstarter ending:
(Depending on each Winery’s registration status, up to 92.14% of the US population can currently receive the winery direct shipments offered on Casemates. At this time the following states are excluded: Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Hawaii, Kentucky, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Utah.)
You’re active, you’re engaged, you’re smart, you’re funny, and you smell amazing. What is that, Dior? The lingering scent of the Wendy’s you had for lunch? Whatever it is, it’s terrific. You’re terrific.
Words of flattery only go so far with this cheapskate. I don’t drink a lot of wine - 'more of a Beer, JD, or G&T drinker.
So to be clear, for a legacy VMPr, assuming you want to stay VMP for the future, the $60 Kickstarter is a no-brainer, right?
$60 buys a year of monthly VMP fees and you get $30 of coupons for any Mediocre site back, right?
To put it another way… if you planned to only buy $30 worth of stuff over the next year, your VMP fee nets to getting cut in half.
@dave thanks, done at the $60 level. Although, not sure how my Kickstarter account gets connected to my Mediocre account… I did use the same email address.
… and from the Kickstarter page:
Casemates Kickstarter Shirt
Special Forum badge
The VMP shipping is actually more valuable on Casemates since shipping will be $8-12 there vs. $5 on the other Mediocre sites.
@vaaccess Most blue laws are certainly there to protect distributors.
I can drive an hour or two to a distillery (with prior arrangement), taste some selected barrels of bourbon, and pick one I want to buy. Mine. All me.
The the distillery will bottle it, sell it to a distributor, who will sell it to a retailer, who will sell it to me.
To be fair, there are retailers that will do it for a nominal fee, because it’s good to be friends with people who drink bourbon. And it’s easier for me to legally buy some bottles of someone else’s barrels (if invited to do so), because I’m buying from a licensed retailer.
But it’s still artificially including people into process, especially the distributor, who only contributed driving my bottles under a hundred miles.
I guess I should ask this here and not over on woot.
I am just a low end backer as I have no clue what vmp, or meh or any of those things are. I feel like one of the kids that doesn’t get to sit on the cool table.
I just usually ordered wine from woot and then drank it.
It helped so much finding new wines and learning much about it.
But I am not sure where to go and what all this is now.
Very confused state at the moment. And somehow it feels like I am the only one that doesn’t know all these things.
I there anything else I need to do besides the kickstarter thing and signing up for an account on this site?
@communist did you just really show me another site to spend money on? Oh yes you did.
I am upgrading my pledge thingie to the $60. Not just for the free shipping for a year, not sure what vmp is still overall. But also to support the folks behind wine woot. I am currently sipping a nice Pedroncelli, which I would never have even heard of without the site, the posts and all the taste notes.
I went from drinking grocery which was like rolling the dice, to finding decently priced wines that were actually good. Curated. Brought to my home and carried upstairs. Well usually, unless fedex got lazy.
Watch this lady drag cases of wine up 2 flights of stairs.
Glad to see the support this site already has. Congrats Matt and David! Some of you may not know me because my handle used to be…oh, it’s the same. Never mind. This is great wine!
Long time WW lurker, buyer and forum reader (ablickle over there) - glad to see so many of the “people in the know” over here! Looking forward to entertaining opinions and discussions and continued wallet impact
Backer #17 here. Wooter since 2005 and Meh-er since 2014. I’m really glad the campaign has skyrocketed to success. It goes to show how great this community is and we wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for Matt and David. Cheers to you guys and the crew for pulling this together.
I’m in for the $60 on Kickstarter and my “backdoor” VMP membership. I discovered Meh too late in life and have been suffering the consequences ever since… now I can get cheap wine and cheat my way into VMP… Belated Christmas miracle!
Woot! Excited that the Kickstarter met its goal! I went in for a personal party pack and a year of VMP last night and have been tracking the progress. So glad to see all of you here and ready to buy wine.
Hola! I had no idea mediocre had a dedicated wine site. Oh yeah! I discovered Casemates via an email from…wait…don’t get me to lying…maybe meh.com forum…there goes my youngtimers again…
Glad to see this happening and looking forward to more wine. (I either need to start drinking more or get another cellar.)
I learned about Casemates from the post in the meh.com forums last night. I forgot to notice what number backer I is (is there a way to learn this after the fact?)
Hi All, and congrats WD! That got funded quickly! Transferring over from WW, same user ID- looking forward to things hopefully being more like the earlier WW, and perhaps splitting some cases with local folks- whoever they are!
Late to the party but in none the less!!! But what the hell are we going to call ourselves? Casematers just sounds wrong…and probably illegal in certain states.
Looks like I’m going to have to change the name of the wine.woot football league. Merbill is in the house at the $60 level. I hope to attend some of those local parties. Congrats on making your goal so quickly.
@robpm If you go to the kickstarter page and click “manage” for your pledge. You can only select one of the rewards, but WD and Matt want us to select the remote party or Sonoma gathering and then add the $60. Unless I’m missing what your frustration actually is about.
@robpm it’s now a half day later and even tho you pinged the @rpm username, silence. Perhaps customer support can determine if that username has gone dormant and re-harvest it for you?
FYI, here is the meh.com@rpm profile… completely zero activity…

Woohoo! Glad people are moving over here too! Longtime vmp member here so this is a great add. Can’t wait to see the new deals. Hopefully some of the old wineries can rejoin too.
@klezman Sorry, kiddo, this is the way that all the Mediocre forums work. Initial replies have the poster’s name at the top, and responses within the thread have the poster’s name at the end.
@Shrdlu I may get used to it, but I don’t foresee myself actually liking it. I prefer to know who’s talking while I am hearing what they say, not having to wait until after. Of course, ymmv.
Okay. So I’m here from wine.woot also. I’m sure many of you recognize me. Or, actually, probably none of you recognize me. But anyway, I inhabited that website off and on for many years. And to show for it I have an entire room of my house that you can’t really walk around in because it’s full of wine boxes. And now I’m here because apparently I don’t already have enough wine.
I’m here. I received the wcc email last night. i’ve bought just one wellington reds case from woot, but have enjoyed lurking in the community so’s i can speak aphisticatedly and smart about the grape juices.
Long time Meh-er, eighth time (or so) commenter. Happy to get the special VMP invite in my inbox today. And I like wine, (in fact, I’m drinking some right now—white. Though I used to drink red until I met this one guy some years ago…but I digress)… #elipses
@datruandi It’s pretty late, and it’s been a long day. My guess is that you might not see an answer until tomorrow morning. I know I saw @WineDavid49 on one of the other threads. Maybe he knows the answer (on whether labrats have to pay, or get the bottle for free, gratis, and at no charge), and will show up here to provide it.
@datruandi It sounds to me like its just part of the promotion to get everything going. It seems like a pretty good idea to me, and since so many people signed up I am sure there will be no lack of rats for a while. That said, I doubt paying will be the only way to join in the future, it will probably be much like it was at w.w, its just a little something nice for those who are here at this moment.
@datruandi we specifically removed an award level that offered Labrat as a paid entry in preference of future way to join without paying. The awkwardness is that so many people would opt-in that we need some way to filter out values participants over time.
Here at launch, that filter is dollar support for the party options. Later I hope we will base it on participation, knowledge, demeanor, prose, nostalgia… things we would all like to see from their eventual Tasting Notes.
@snapster thanks for clarifying! that is helpful.
For what it’s worth - the “party support level” felt a bit like “pay to be a labrat” to me at first.
I loved being a labrat and hope to be one again on the new platform and I hope I provided value. If not, I will welcome feedback Now, I can make a more educated decision about which filter to take - the - I w@ntz in now - or the time will tell.
@snapster The main reason why I didn’t go for a remote party pack was the implication that I’d be a signing up as a labrat. I don’t feel confident enough in my wine knowledge (and wine related descriptive words) to take on that responsibility.
Not having enough friends is the other reason I didn’t go for it, though I could probably get my daughter units to participate if they’re around.
Presuming that remote party packs are still available, what would be the prefered way to upgrade my $50 early bird (backer #36) to include both the remote party pack and the VMP benefits?
@snapster@Dave Just in case, tagging you both. I realize that the square I clicked on said I was volunteering to be a labrat, and I would like to specifically remove myself from this. Make someone else do it, please. It sounds like no fun at all (for me), and I like reading some of the more educated LabRat opinions.
It would be sad to send me a bottle of wine to savor, since I would indeed drink it. I just wouldn’t fulfill the other part of the bargain, and then no one would like me… :-{
(As an amusing aside, my number for the kickstarter is 18.)
@Shrdlu@baqui63 We’ll definitely have a way for people to opt out from being on the tasting panels / lab rats, it just might be after the Kickstarter ends and we actually start working on that program.
@dave I originally pledged $50 and selected the early bird VMP reward. As a current VMP on meh, this gets me the three $10 coupons for $10 less than the slackers who showed up late.
Since there will be a way to opt out of rattage, I want to add a remote party pack and thus increased my pledge to $150.
Before I change my reward, I want to check if I will be good with just the $150 or do I need to bump it up to $160 to get both the VMP and RPP?
@baqui63 the best surefire way to preserve that $10 early bird value is with another Kickstarter account backing the new reward you want.
However, if the backer number stays the same when you switch, we will be able to identify folks who did this or outright bought the $60 when they could have bought early bird. Then we can find something extra to give them. I believe the cutoff backer # was reported around #250.
@snapster Just so you know, I’m #18, but need no special privilege (I bought the 100, then came back and added the 60). I’m just happy that there’s a remote party pack, because I really do prefer very small groups, at best. I’ve been trying to talk myself out of buying a second remote party pack. Hopefully they’re all gone by now (and if not, don’t tell me).
@snapster Not sure how to see if my backer# changed, but I threw in another $10 and changed my reward to the remote party pack. Even tho I was #36 I’ll take a chance since the $10 really doesn’t matter to me.
I noticed that this freed up my Early Bird ($50) VMP, tho I just told a bunch of friends it was freed up, so it may not stay free for long.
Saw the email from WCC early yesterday morning, but didn’t get around to backing until late last night, so backer 795… Looking forward to seeing what WD has up his sleeve, but might not have the capital to order much for a while after the wine buying bloodbath that was Decebmber on WineWoot.
Not a fan of the “spend $100 to get on the labrat list and then spend another $60 to get the free shipping deal.” Didn’t support at the $100 level since it’s highly unlikely we will be able to get out to the party from the East Coast. I really enjoyed being a labrat many times on WineWoot, and hope the opportunity will present itself again without a price tag.
Congrats on getting to the Kickstarter goal so quickly!
@wnance You could also do the “remote party” where WD will ship you food and wine for your very own launch party, complete with the other perks of the “flying to sonoma” party.
Is there info on when the year of VMP would start? Or more specifically can we decide for ourselves or delay when it starts? If I backed at that level I would likely need to have my free year of VMP start closer to middle of 2018 or so.
@HitAnyKey42@klezman When the Kickstarter ends, we’ll be sending out surveys. When we get those back, we’ll then take a little time to get everything set up and entered. So I don’t have an exact time, but we were planning on it being fairly soon. I don’t know if we’ll have the ability to delay starts for individuals, but you can try writing in to customer support here after you get the survey and requesting that.
@Thumperchick Well, I wish you, humper and puppycat a belated Merry Christmas and a Very Happy, Prosperous and Healthy New Year! (You can know I mean it due to all the capital letters!)
Same name as the woot site. Wine.woot got me into wine when I was just old enough to order and drink it. Over 10 years later, I’m still learning but loving it at the same time. Super happy to continue to be a part of this!
This has me happy. I’ve never been very active on Woot (azture) or Meh (neuroticsilence), but I’m a long time lurker from waaaaay back. I’ve been debating joining a winery club lately, and this just seems easier.
@JOATMON You can see people with the Kickstarter badge over here, for instance - https://meh.com/forum/topics/day-zero-t-shirt
but the badges are site specific. People who back Casemates will have Kickstarter badges on Casemates but not Meh.
@f00l The developer is indeed around, and just modified the plug-in to support this forum. And it works!
If’n you are not using the plug-in or do not know about it, the plug-in will take you to the unread posts in the forum you are currently in. Real easy to see all new posts.
Same username as woot. Never connected meh with the original woot folks, so haven’t made it there yet. I got here because corrado shared a link for the new site. I’m happy to see a new iteration of wine.woot!
I had Stopped buying wine when Amazon wrecked woot.com, so happy to start buying wine again!
Happy to support the Kickstarter @snapster, you should allow investors too! I bet you’d easily raise enough to cover WD’s salary for a few years!
Anyway, I/we Used to buy a bunch of wine from WW, friends and I used to split cases… New model sounds great, and looking forward to meeting folks in Maryland/DC to swap wine and meh stories with!
Just saying hello, and found the Kickstarter from a link on Wine.Woot, where I seldom purchased after the Amazon takeover, but often read the forums. Handle is different here, and am looking forward to some great deals on wine, and hopefully some Wellington leftovers! Best to all, and am interested in seeing who might be out there in NE Ohio!
Long-time wine.woot buyer (first purchase was Wellington Vineyards Quartet in Nov 2007).
Just found out yesterday that WW was going away, and soon after found the Kickstarter (#1204).
Same handle as woot. You may remember me from either of my two posts. On second thought…
Although I didn’t post, I always read the forum before I bought wine, so thank you to everyone who unknowingly helped me with a wine decision and looking forward to findin new (to us) wines with y’all in the future.
Whalllp…Ok, Mediocre. I started out as a WooT er (Back-in-the-day, because I’m just so dang kewl like dat), then came Meh, now Casemates. I live in Mother Fucking wine/ uber hoppy beer country. NorCal, yaar.
If you can give me better deals than Grocery Outlet, I’m in.
Winewooter since 2010, and am happy to say I’m supporting this kickstarter! I learned probably half I know about wine from the community on wine woot. Unfortunately, it seemed like over the last few years the wine woot community got a little quieter, so I’m hoping this new site brings back the great converstaions! Maybe we’ll even see nightghost? Also looking forward to labrats and hearing from some great wineries!
@kawichris650 WOW i cant believe it! A ghost sighting! This new site should be a lot of fun! I’m hoping for some “black tie” offerings and looking forward to meeting seattle area casemates!
@StingingJ At this moment Seattle is in the lead with 33 backers on the campaign. Dalas is a close second at 30 backers. Minnesota isn’t even on the list but we sure enjoy our share of wine. MN is amongst the darker states for the farewell offer on wine.woot right now.
Commence Jigglin… In on the $60. Wish I could go to the party!!! Reminds me of a time years ago I helped create a wine of the month club. Exhausting editing 1000+ photos and reviews. Lost track of the success after the departing.
Over 400 woots (the vast majority wine) since joining woot in early 2008 with my first Wellington and Corison woots among the earliest. While I really need to draw down my cellar (especially after all the Wellington mystery and Victory cases here at the end) I’m really looking forward to the new endeavor.
Ok, I never post, but I’m here.
Am I correct in assuming the monthly VMP charges will stop now that the $60 annual fee has been paid?
Additionally, I know diddly squat about wine. I like it cold. Ice cold. Go ahead, hate me.
@MrFred Yes, once the Kickstarter ends and we get surveys out (and back) for syncing up email addresses and usernames. So it’s possible there’ll be another month charged.
Hi. I’m the same guy that occasionally posted on wine.woot under this handle. Looking forward to seeing many of the old woot favorite wineries here, and some new ones too.
I found you via @Snapster’s comments elsewhere in the interwebs and the Meh VMP email. Sadly, the $60 level was sold out, so I’m gambling on the $15 level and hoping my VMP status carries across sites for free shipping.
Congrats, guys! I am happy to be backer #185, in for the remote launch party so I can celebrate with my local wine buddies in Virginia. Hoping to find the next Wellington here. Cheers!
Alas, I’ll say it: just not my thing. I’m in for all of your other mediocre exploits, and I’ll keep an eye on this one, but especially with things kinda tight, I just can’t drop the dough. I’m not much of a winer. Yuk. I’ll kick the living start out of a niche market mediocre that sells tall t-shirts. You can call it, TheMediumIsTall. Nah. Just hurry up with mediocritee; and make it tall person friendly.
@f00l You’re always nicer to me than I deserve, but I happily accept. And I’ll probably drop in around here occasionally. It’s too much gotdamn work to keep up with any of these forums (let alone all of them), and while it might be work that I prefer, I gotta pay the bills and keep the wife happy with my presence elsewhere. I’m trying to wedge in more time for random visits at meh. I’d bet a solid dozen regulars will be happy about that (but maybe I flatter myself). The rest can kiss my goat-ass grits.
@Lighter I’d take that bet. There’ll likely be all sorts of random conversations about wine and provenance and assorted bullshit like that, and probably about hard liquor and cocktails and even soda. Then there’ll be obtusely relevant topics and completely unrelated miscellany. I’ll be back later with my “I told you so”.
@corrado Wow, I haven’t even pulled up the site in YEARS. (At least I kept the domain registration going!)
New year, new community … yeah, might be an appropriate time …
Hi, former VMP and longtime wooter. I was jrbw3 there and occasionally active on wine.woot forums in the pre-meh days but someone somehow has jrbw3, so I’m jrbw3mi here. The MI is for Michigan, SE to be more exact (for future “casemate” possibilities). Happy to see this and excited for it to start up.
@jrbw3mi Hi! I freed up jrbw3 for you if you’d like to change your username to that. (I’m pretty sure it was you before, but maybe an old email or something.) You can do that here - https://casemates.com/account/info
@robpm This is a bit of a different situation, since rpm is not just an older account you’d misplaced. However, the user at rpm has never bought anything, or had any forum activity, and their account is nearing a year old.
I’ve changed the rpm account name, you can now change yours to that.
For others seeing this, I won’t always be able to do this, as it’s going to be a hassle if the old user comes back and can’t get into their account, but in this case that seems unlikely.
@slicknik82 woohoo! I’m in Livonia. Daughter has dance in Novi. Tennis on Sundays in Southfield/Franklin. Plus I can travel most anywhere. Email is jrbw3mi at the icloud.com.
transplant from Meh.VMP, gave up the wine before your time. congrats anyways, and I’ll keep an eye out for the women in my life who continue to enjoy the grape!
/giphy frothy-delicious-nymph
Been wooting since 2007 under jshaver81, didn’t really participate in the forums, but looking to change that here. Excited ! And in Chicago for those that are interested in splitting cases.
This format takes a lot of scrolling to get to the last posting. I liked the ease of going to the last page (most recent posting) at WW forums. Also in Chgo,
@jmdavidson1 Yup, that’s the way to do it. Although, @shawn, it seems like the “custom” option could be even better with an option to show N replies before the newest one in each comment. So when I set mine to 2/2/show new, I’d like the “2” to be 2 replies, excluding the new ones. Keeps the context better while also keeping the pages shorter, right?
Hi! Made it over here from the WCC email & WW forum posts. Been building a new wine rack to hold all the bottles from December, and I’m afraid I’ll need a second once the cases start being offered!
@winefarm Are you talking about the actually good one or the “ghetto wine rack” that was literally nothing more than precariously stacked styro wine shippers on their side?
@winefarm@rjquillin
Basement is a mess, but this is the ‘current state’ of the “wine” storage.
The “awesome” home-made rack is now used to store empty homebrew bombers and stuff from Costco. You can’t really see the birch back, but it came out really well!
The Original Cube is just taking up space.
The other Original Cube is supporting the AC for the “Cold Room” that doubles as a lager fermentation chamber with an Inkbird temperature controller. I need to leave the door cracked in the winter or the room gets into the low 40s!
@winefarm Is “vinegar room” a thing? I just keep my horde of tsfkaww Balsamic in the “cold room.” Cheese never lasts long enough to need a “room,” but I’ve contemplated trying to make it.
@corrado cheese is so easy to make, you should try it. I have a fantasy of a room where I can make cheese, vinegar, maybe wine. It needs to be temp controlled and all kinds of other specifications. My little brain can’t quite figure it all out. If you are making vinegar, you need a place where it can be left with just cheesecloth over a crock. It’s kind of a weird thing to leave out on the counter. May have to crowdsource this idea…
@winefarm Does @WineDavid49 know about these fantasies? I feel a bit uncomfortable discussing a married woman’s cheese & vinegar fantasies in an open forum…
Realistically, you’re talking about separate spaces. The good news is all you really need is a Craigslist chest freezer and a dirt-cheap temperature controller (and maybe a heat source, depending on the product) and you can effective run anything from sub-freezing to sauna within about 2 degrees.
@corrado lol. I thought we were all family here. . Yeah. I’ve seen the freezer hacks. But I think I have a Martha stewart version in mind. Who knows, maybe I’ll do a cheese/wine/vinegar room kickstarter.
I found my way over here from wine.woot and the WCC email blast. I also backed my first Kickstarter campaign because of this site. Here’s to hoping for similar deals!
Hello all! So great to see so many familiar faces/names on these forums I learned so much from all of you. I started on WW with a Wellington purchase so was thrilled to end times there with another Wellington offering. I had two accounts there (had to get extra of that balsamic) and some how my back up one got associated with my Amazon acct, so the last couple years I was MelanieGoodStuff. Though you probably won’t recognize either of my usernames, as I was more of a lurker and learner. I am hoping to force myself out of my shell here at CaseMates. Also hoping to find some other folks in Southern NH and the MA border towns to share with.
I’m here, and I trust that my résumé and sporadic participation speaks for itself. I pledged at the $60 level and I have no idea what I’ve gotten myself into.
Hello I was familiar with Wine.woot but I only purchased there once. I found this on Kickstarter and it sounded cool to be able to split a case of wine with others!
Whoops, I am a dumb and didn’t realize I was supposed to say hi here. Hi. Long-time wooter (2007, I think), but almost never posted. And with no PMs (yet), gonna have to keep a closer eye here!
I found this as I follow the Amazon/Whole Foods news. My company specializes in wine promotion to consumers. I backed you on kickstarter and look forward to seeing how this progresses. Cheers.
Hi all, as a Wooter since 2005 and a Wine.Wooter for the last six years, I was despondent to hear that Wine.Woot was closing down, and then ecstatic to find out about WD’s plans for this place. Can’t wait to see what is to come.
Hi everyone! It’s like a class reunion, sort of. I will be able to do most of my purchases toward the beginning of the month so please save some of the good stuff for then. #takecareofretirees
WineWooter for a few years and excited to see what happens here! Backer #24! Remembering the days when all of my wine had to be shipped to my in-laws in NY…
Any boston area folks here?
I thought this was wine.woot. Been there for years. Bought more wine over those years than would be prudent to admit. Guess I must have taken a wrong turn in Albuquerque.
Anyway this place seems nice. Maybe I’ll hang out here for a bit. Got any wine?
Hello! Loved Wine Woot, though I was usually pretty quiet on the forums. My CC hurts from last month. I was in on the meh kickstarter, was VMP, but let it go and am glad to be able to get back in on it. Just upgraded to the remote party, so there’s an earlybird VMP available right now
Read about the Kickstarter campaign in a Recode article. Glad to be a VMP! Looking forward to some interesting wine offerings. I love all wine, especially anything sparkling.
Long time wooter since 2006, catcoland here, backer 249, now signed in as @mcscario. @dave I’ve got a problem you may be able to help with as you’ve done for a few others. When I first created my account I was told catcoland was already taken so I signed up as catcoland1. I then changed my name to mcscario, another old screen name I’ve used and emailed support to see who had the handle catcoland and if it was really not available. I was told my email address owned catcoland and maybe I needed to reset my password, which I did. Then I was able to log in as catcoland and discovered the email for that account was @gmail.ocm. Now I have 2 logins, catcoland with what looks like an invalid email address and mcscario with my gmail.com address. Don’t know how this happened as I wasn’t able to sign up for casemates with catcoland in the first place. Would appreciate some assistance, I haven’t found a way to delete an account yet.
@mcscario you want catcoland and to abandon the rest, right? I just fixed the email address on catcoland (and changed mcscario to a different address assuming you’re abandoning that). Hopefully that does it. Post in here to confirm (or write into support if you can’t log in)
I am not a frequent buyer but I love the quality of the wine choices on wine.woot! I learned to appreciate the good ones! Hope to continue my education (fun?)!
@jmruru I’m so glad another backer came in and got it up to $120K. My OCD was kicking in and I was about to pledge another $25 just to get it over the mark.
@mike808 Just had my first slice of King Cake this season today. I haven’t had DDD King Cake yet but saw the pic on the other thread and it looks amazing . Had the petitifours a while back and they were solid. Reppin’ uptown here, but we’ll have to see about cutting up a case in the future. Who Dat!
Happy 300th birfday, NO!
Doing JF this year. Can’t wait to be home.
P.S. grew up in Gretna by Belle Chase Hwy, went to HS in Uptown, then lived all over. FQ, Marigny, Uptown, Mid-City, LGD, and Irish Channel. It’s all home to me.
Well, I’m a newbie and although I knew about the Woot site I never joined. I’m not even sure how I ended up here. I read an article and ended up on the Kickstarter project. I’m so intrigued by all the mediocre sites and I love wine so I thought this is something I should get in on. I feel like I just crashed a party with all you long time wooters!
@Snapster, I feel like I should point out the Kickstarter closed on my birthday. This should entitle me to something extra special. I…would have felt this way anyway, naricissim and all.
Been a VMP on meh for just over 3 years. Don’t participate much in the forums, but buy enough that the free shipping more than makes up for the VMP cost. Really looking fowrward to the same here. (I just hope I can find some other Eastern Iowans who would like to split cases).
Long time Wooter, glad to have found Casemates. I was already having withdrawals from great wine finds, so thank you very much for creating this place.
Hi! Random wine noob in the Grand Forks, ND region. (Technically in northwestern Minnesota, but meh.)
I’d always wanted to investigate wine.woot but didn’t, then saw the news it was going away. Hopped on the $60 Kickstarter train as penance, I guess?
I honestly know very little about wines… I usually wind up enjoying a random Moscato here and there, and haven’t expanded my horizons much. Hoping this will lead me to be more adventurous. Have to start somewhere, right?
Very sorry to see the end of Wine.Woot, but happy to have been part of the Kickstarter for this new venture. Many purchases on Wine.Woot and I’m looking forward to seeing what Casemates has in store for my wine cellar.
Since my allergies and my love of wine had a nasty breakup level fight I’ve moved on to gin but I threw a little love to casemates kickstarter. I’m really just biding my time until Mediocritee officially launches. Hopefully, 81 days from now.
I’m one of the few who backed Casemates without ever buying from wine.woot (although I thought about it a few times). I usually just wander into a liquor store and play the guess-and-check game. I will admit to having drunk some pretty bad wine because the label had a cute dog on it.
@OldWooter People are posting on the old thread for the sale. (Easy to find if you sort by last comment, should be right near the top.) A lot of us got 08, 12, 13.
@InFrom Dunno yet. No room in the car to pick them and a case of some '13 Esterlina Riesling we’re splitting all at once, with all the other smaller boxes.
Ah! and a rat bottle for the Friday offer!
That I picked up, the rest can wait till tomorrow.
@OldWooter In theory, mine get here tomorrow. With the weather around here right now, we’ll see if it happens. Tracking is still showing them in transit and a state away.
@OldWooter Because I have not one lick of sense, I bought nine. One each of 2007, 2008, 2009, and three each of 2012 and 2013. I’m opening one of the 2013 bottles tomorrow evening.
I love you, @snapster, wherever you are. Thank you for rescuing WW, and making it fun again. You too, @WineDavid49.
My gratitude to those responsible for resurrecting ww, glad to be here. Made it in for the kickstarter and just placed my first order, looking forward to what’s ahead.
I asked this over in ask a mate, but maybe it should be asked here…
Assuming something doesn’t sell out. How hard is it to modify an order placed for 4 bottles up to a case?
If I buy 4 right now but the Baltimore area wants to split a case later today, and it’s still available, can orders be modified?
Okay, not sure where to put this, but assuming I filled out the survey in a timely way, if I put $160 into the kickstarter, how will I know when the VMP status has been applied to my account? Would it show up under my account settings?
@novium At the top right of this page or any other, there is a wine bottle with a question mark. Click and one of the choices will be “support.” Fill out the form and tell them your issue. They don’t work weekends so you’ll have to wait. But you’ll be in the queue.I had a similar issue and it got resolved quickly.
@novium Write into CS using the Support Form and include your kickstarter email address and backer level. If you haven’t filled out your kickstarter survey yet, please do that before writing in.
I’ll look into this for you on Monday. I don’t see the VMP on you account yet.
Hi, just got my last order of wine from W.w on Wednesday. After opening a bottle tonight, remembered the paper that was enclosed saying check out casemates so here I am.
@NoGenocide so far 3 offers. You also missed the KS. It had t-shirts, and home party packs, or you could pay to attend the big party in CA later this month or next
Yup, did all that already. Took the survey and signed up for my account earlier this month. No worries, I e-mailed support and they can hopefully sort it out.
Does every winery ship with their preferred vendor (Fedex, UPS, etc.)? I’d love to have the option to ship to a Fedex hold location rather than my home if I knew
@ovad2 The winery isn’t the one making the choice. To my knowledge, it all goes through WCC, and @WineDavid49, knower of all. It’s probably always going to be FedEx. I don’t think I’ve seen wine come from anything else for as long as I can remember (when dealing with wine dot woot, that is).
@Shrdlu back in the day…
I seem to recall a few orders shipping other than FedEx. Perhaps Hunt Country in NY or Gård Vintners in WA, where the shipment didn’t come directly from WCC.
Over the years it has varied between ground and home, and that makes a difference between omitting either Saturday or Monday deliveries, but I don’t recall which is which.
@rjquillin I did receive a shipment from a winery via UPS, long ago, now that you mention it. They were idiots, though, since they didn’t mark it as wine, and didn’t send it as such either, including not requiring a signature. That was when Jay was still around, and I picked up the phone and told him about it…at length.
Ground is mon-fri, and home is tues-sat, for your future reference.
Hey all, I know it has come up a couple of times in this forum, but still unclear how one becomes a Lab Rat. Is it a random sort of selection? Is there a place to opt in/out? I’d love to participate more.
Way late to the party, but glad to be here. I was an infrequent wine wooter, but always enjoyed reading the discussion. Looking forward to continued learning and cool wine buys. Thanks WD for carrying on in new digs. Cheers!
Well they say better late than never, right? Been a long time since I was active on winewoot… finding it defunct, glad to stumble upon casemates.
Any chance of Brandini? lol
Let the games begin!
@Winedavid49 glad to see you here - tried to reach out a few times on “that other forum”, but not sure if you ever saw that.
@Winedavid49 looking forward to at least one petite sirah each week. 1/3 isn’t too much.
@Winedavid49 where was the billion dollar pledge? I had a billion to pledge but I blew it all on hookers and cocaine.
Woo hoo!
Inaugural VMP member, having backed Meh in Kickstarter. Long time Wooter, and early Wine.Woot customer.
@JOATMON nobody told me about meh when it was getting launched
@JOATMON And we’ll see you at the party @Winedavid49 is hosting as well!
SIWBM, under a slightly different name.
dbarrym here…bummed to see Woot.Wine go, having been a charter (2004) Woot member and frequent wine/cheese/related buyer… looking forward to seeing how this develops.
oh yeah, and in for the $60 Kickstarter campaign!
In for the Kickstarter!
@MarkDaSpark hi sparky!
@PetiteSirah oh why can’t I find more of you around? Of course I’m assuming you’re a grape for this comment.
@denboy because most people are idiots.
More for me!
@PetiteSirah
/giphy cannibal
Any chance of bringing over the Gatherings thread?
Or just copy and paste them?
@chefjess yikes…I hope you don’t charge interest
@winefarm I believe it was a Wellington mystery challenge so a bottle of Victory for every year that has passed would make me very very happy
Hi YA WD…Let’s get this thing going>>>>>
long live w.w!
The FAQ is too short.
Just sayin’.
I’m in. Somebody has to represent Poland here! Does anybody need some decanters?
@edlada I saw that earlier! Glad to see you here - my parents were from Poland
Do you think the Rinfrescante is still good?!?!
Excited to see someone got the band back together! Can’t wait
I knew WineDavid would come through with a new iteration of Wine.Woot! My initial reaction was shock, but after literally a few minutes I knew this idea and this community would survive! Congrats!
Hope this works out-- I was already beginning to miss wine.woot. The idea of sharing a case with someone else in my area sounds good.
DickL (formerly programmerwino)
email from Wine Country is how. Why is another question best neither asked nor answered.
@Lighter Ouch - I didn’t mean to yell - I wish I had a clue as to what I clicked to do that.
@Lighter
#Probably started a line with a hash tag/pound sign
@Lighter Just as an additional FYI, the mediocre forums use (an expanded version of) markdown for formatting. If some formatting issue ever goes wacky, turning to the md reference might explain it.
Oh is this where all the cool kids from wine.woot are hanging out now? OH HAI!
When did we become the cool kids?
@klezman I don’t think she meant you…
Fair enough…we’re at least the cool kids as far as nerds go!
@cheron98 WE KAN HAZ POTPIEZ
@cheron98 I’m here too
@bhodilee it’s an upgrade from the “timeout room”…
@bhodilee oh no, who let you in?
@jasisk jwhite finally made it out of there!
@cheron98 Well, it was…
@corrado Your fault!
@cheron98 We Kaz Haz WINEZ Agin.
Congrats WD! Looking forward to see how this develops.
Oh…and I’m in for the $60 KickStarter! (I’m guessing the $50 EarlyBird doesn’t include the 3 $10 certificates.)
@Mark_L Well, I answered myself. I found that you can modify your KickStarter pledge level. Woot! (or maybe I shouldn’t say that here!)
@Mark_L Thanks for the heads up, just re-read and updated my pledge. READING IS IMPORTANT! lol
@Mark_L I’m hoping the 50 is exactly the same as the 60 as the coupons are from WCC for those subscribers. Maybe @WineDavid49 can clarify si know if I need to change my pledge.
In for 60, long live casemates.
I feel like I’ve been given new life. I loved most all of the wine.woot wines!
In!
This makes me happy! Congrats to WD!
Well, of course!
Nice to see so many familiar faces already…
Back as jmdavidson1 from the ww jmdavidson and happy to be here.
Woot! We’re saved!
Or should I say: Case! We’re saved!
I was only a lurker on the forums, but I was sad to see WW go right as I was able to start ordering wine again. Glad to see it’s going to live on without the mothership with some great Kickstarter perks as well! Thanks @Mark_L for the heads up on updating pledge as I did the same thing you did!
+1
Delighted to see the email this morning! In for $60.
Awesome to see the new site! Pledged 60, Can’t wait!
…nevermind…I see that shipping will be back to pre-Amazon!!!
@vaaccess , on the Kickstarter page, it does say:
So most states blocked by the Mothership’s uptight attorneys should be rejoicing!
Glad to be back! 19 and I are in for the Carneros party and VMP, even if he doesn’t know it yet.
Calling it now, the holiday week(s) offering(s) should be called “Casemas”.
Found about via the WCC email, and the Facebook notification from MDS immediately after that.
In for the remote launch party pack + VMP - with the newborn I don’t think I can get away to wine country anytime soon.
@nematic what if Casemas is the Woot-off equivalent for this new venture?
@nematic And for the 4th of July…CaseCrackers; Easter…CaseEggs or EggCases. OMG, is this what happens when an old Coot has a glass of wine mid-day!!
@nematic Question I’m wondering about is whether you need to pledge a whole additional $60 for the VMP perk or if there’s some economy of scale here
Awesome to see this starting up again. I was hooked ever since the beta on wine.woot! Thanks to coolchris160 for posting the Kickstarter info on wine.woot. I didn’t get any other notification about this site!
Pledge made and congrats WD!! Nice to see already over 20% of kickstarter goal on day 1!
In for VMP! The early bird numbers are dwindling into the single digits…
I like t-shirts. And wine.
@neilfindswine Long time no see?
@bsevern I’m still standing… (yeah, yeah, yeah). Hope all is well…!
I’m in. Woot, er, meh, er, weh?
Hello all! Longtime w.w forum lurker/orderer, so happy to see this new venture! In for the remote party - and how is it possible I’m not seeing a wine glass emoji in the list here??
Testing, testing, 1 2 3.
I can guess this is the new place to post all the crap!
/giphy hai
@Thumperchick Hai. Nice to see you here
I don’t want to say hi.
Efamily has been a wine.wooter since 2006. Was sad to see it go. Now very happy. In for VMP!
So happy to see this, congratulations!
hum diddly hum.
Wait, i also backed at the $50 early bird…don’t see anything on the non-early bird $60 level of the three certificates, only mentioned in the email from WCC. Can we get a clarification on that, so I know if I should switch my pledge? TIA.
@oppsie unless u are a vmp to begin with(you have no v symbol next to your name) you dont get any certificates
@communistjack @oppsie I think a lot of the people are coming here from WCC (or something like that) and they get coupons from being members there already based on my reading between the lines here. For those of us who were already vmp members at Meh, we also get the coupon benefit as a thank you for signing up.
@PurplePawprints ahh that makes sense bribe both meh and WCC people to buy into the kick starter
nice @snapster
@communistjack @oppsie In the ‘ex-VMP’ email, there was mention of a single $10 coupon for former VMP members at the $60 level.
@brhfl yup got that email too, its $10 towards any meh site, even if we dont love wine we could use it towards the next bluetooth candycorn
@communistjack @winedavid49 yes, this is in the WCC email. My question is will it happen seamlessly if I pick the $60 (or, as I did, $50 early bird) level on kickstarter, or will something more have to be done?
@oppsie after the kickstarter ends , every backer will get an email survey, you enter your meh user name/email and they credit the vmp and the coupons
@communistjack @winedavid49 So the next question is: is it active for ohnly the $60 level, or the $50 early bird as well?
@oppsie both
Bought in at 60
Can you guess who I am
@noshipsummer HaHa !! awesome!
WHERE’S MILL???
So happy to see this, and see so many of my favorite winos.
/giphy question
Quick Q: Does the $60 pledge also include an additional year of VMP for current VMP members?
And has anyone gotten RPM to agree to arrange a tour including the tent party yet?
@mother from comments on Kickstarter:
Yes, existing VMPs will have the 12 months added as an extension. If we reach funding level, the backer survey will let you link to that account name. A clarifying email will be sent later today. Thanks for your support!
@a13z Great, thanks! And can someone edit that giphy out? lol
@thumperchick, you are called.
@f00l Looks like @a13z has this one covered.
@Thumperchick
@f00l was letting you know that @mother wants the gif changed.
@mflassy ah, I missed that. Thanks.
@mother - better?
@Thumperchick
@mflassy
Ty for filling in what I should have been clear about.
So just what kind of prices should we expect on these bottles/cases? Are we talking $3/bottle “wine” my neighbor keeps trying to sell me or legit fancy stuff at a slight discount of $25/bottle?
@a13z , if it stays true, you will see legit wines, at nice prices. Take a gander at the Wine.Woot.com site to see prices. At least til Sunday.
I want to say average bottle price between $10 - $20, depending on winery. Some higher end wines around $60 - $90 (think Corison Kronos Cabs).
@mossygreen coffee is general is a dieretic, that has nothing to do with starbucks
@cengland0
@RedOak Talk to me about these “free or really cheap SB gift cards”…
@slicknik82 for me, it is simply paying attention and looking for them. Examples…
Happy to back the kickstarter!
Remote party in Metro Detroit is goin down! Who wants in?
@slicknik82 potentially! Depends on when it happens
@slicknik82 potentially here too depending on when!
@slicknik82 hour away, would consider
Will put heads together following funding. I’m in Oakland County. Would love to meet fellow wooters…errr Casemates!
@slicknik82 possibly. In south-middle Oakland County.
248 representing.
in South Oakland County as well
According to my hubs, we are basically dead center of the county.
I would love to but I live in Arkansas. The land of hypocrisy and stupidity where you can’t ship wine
@ivannabc that bites.
@North316 hip hip hooray!
Will existing VMP members still get the three $10 coupons if we back it at the $100 level?
How does one go about getting their Kickstarter backing linked up to their OG VMP Meh account?
@schripsemas You can login here using your Meh/MorningSave/Mediocre Labs login, as you seem to have already figured out since I see the VMP badge next to your name. I’m assuming they’ll send a link when its funded and launches.
We might get our badges upgraded to [K] badges.
/giphy fine.
Hi! Found you through postings on meh.com forum threads.
I have backed the kickstarter, and now i want to drink
Yeah, why did I hear this after signing up?
WeAreMeh
@KNmeh7
it wasn’t a never vmp again , it was more of
if we keep letting EVERYONE join vmp , they will keep losing money on shipping(normal people paying for shipping is what made it possible for vmps to get shipping for free without affecting product prices)
now that enough time has passed and there is a new business venture (with new VMP perks) they will allow vmp signups via kickstarter for now
but after a year the kickstaters go back to paying for shipping, while the older vmps can still keep getting all the vmp benefits for only$5 a month
@KNmeh7 one wonders will there be a VMP-prime (original) badge to distinguish noobs?
@communistjack @KNmeh7 I read elsewhere that Kickstarter VMPs would be allowed to continue their VMP membership (at $5/month, of course) after the first year.
(Not that I care; I’m a legacy VMP).
@KNmeh7 @rpstrong you are right, after a year the kickstaters are going to be the same $5 a month paying vmps members (as long as the saved payment works )
Great to see so many familiar names already; and that funding is approaching 50% already.
Glad to see what is what… the WCC email and kickstarter indicated 3x per week offerings… but how long will they stay?
Thanks for the email…In at $60!
I’ve been on the wine.woot (same username, davidgrahammd) for a number of years and I may still have a bottle or 2 of the inhouse label magnum (Polyphemus, 2007) red that should get drank one of these days!! I may have also been a regular buyer of the balsamic…just sayin’
Anyway, really glad to see it continue and I’m glad to help it happen
Cheers!!
I was active in w.w for a while then dropped off. Happy to see Casemates and Winedavid over here.
Okay fine I’m in. Coupons and wine please.
Yup. I’m your wino bitch. I want my l00t though. Discounts and wine, please pull forward.
/giphy drive through window 1
Congratulations to WD and his staff!! On 12/01/2005, after trying some wine my son purchased from wine.woot, I became a member and at last count the total wine bottles that came through the front door equaled 141 cases! If I saved all those bottles, I could have built a man wine cave in the back yard! And it’s funny that recently two people asked me if they could buy wine from me for their personal consumption and gifts so this venture of Casemate has a niche and a following before it starts. It will be great to hear the process details of the case split! I’m in with the rest of all of you so I better get back to drinking up my stock!
@Boatman72 I went in for the Remote Launch and I hope the extra $60 will go to the 1yr Free Shipping. I didn’t see any boxes to check for it.
@PurplePawprints Woooo! Me too!
I received an invite from Meh.com
I never got to buy from WW but I’ve been a MEH VMP for a while and I think it’s well…Meh… Still I believe in the business model for casemates and the idea of being able to get others feedback about wines. We all have to believe in something…I believe I’ll have another sip!
@paullaf What was the email subject? I do not see it in my inbox. This saddens me.
@connorbush it said “VMP Exclusive: Help Launch our New Site”
Glad to see the process, forum and people have all carried over. I’m excited to see where this goes and what new ground we’ll cover.
I was thinking the other day that it’s been nice to be able to keep some of my paycheck but if this is anything like the glory days of ww I can kiss it all goodbye again. Here’s to the best/worst depending on the optics!
In for $60 on Kickstarter after receiving an email from Meh this morning. Looking forward to getting some good wine and learning more about splitting cases with people near Cupertino, CA.
@markmav hello! ready to split over here
Is Labrats “pay to play” now?
I’ve been a quiet wine wooter since 2010.
Looking forward to continuing the journey, albeit in a different vehicle.
btw. That scream you heard was my wallet cringing in fear.
@mike808 you got an email from WCC? hmmm - why didn’t I receive one
@datruandi Did you sign up? And get a confirmation email?
And check your Spam folder?
@MarkDaSpark Sign up where? I know WCC and have been even at their location - and bought tons from wine.woot - so not sure what exactly you mean
But yes, sounds like a different LabRat program.
In for $60, and my first Forum post. Excited to see how this will play out!
Heyyo everyone. Didn’t bite on the year VMP but backed at the t-shirt level. Looking forward to some good cheap wine.
FML. Earlybird all gone.
@connorbush They were down to <10 remaining when I earlybirded in about two hours ago.
@brhfl In for a remote pack. I do not think I received an email invite. What was the subject?
@connorbush the emails are slowly trickling out, some vmps only got the email a couple mins ago
Good luck!
Man. The Kickstarter is kicking ass, @WineDavid49!!! It’ll probably close out in the next day or so!!! Woohoo!!! Congrats!!!
Oh snap! I’m in! New SN here so you will have to figure out who this is.
I loved Woot cellars but yet could never get anything I liked shipped to me
@gr8mick1 Pennsylvania will for sure be included in most casemates offers going forward! please stick around!
I love the smell of wine in the morning.
/giphy true to the vine
Back in the early days I used to get a lot of wine.woot and cheese, chocolates etc. Now living in Brazil, starting an adventure of a couple of years, but I think I’m going to go for the kickstarter to get my mom some wines and party material for the new year.
I’m in. I don’t drink much wine, but I’m interested in trying it out. Since I’m already VMP, I may as well pre-pay for a year and get $30 in coupons to go with it. I’m glad to get more of a benefit from VMP as someone who hasn’t bought much on the site but has been a member for a couple years.
WD, congrats! Good to be back…
Quick question: before I sign up, do you have a list of the states you’ll be shipping to? Or did I miss it somewhere?
@borisgoodenough It’ll vary by vineyard, and, so, by deal but I’ll quote from the Kickstarter ending:
(Depending on each Winery’s registration status, up to 92.14% of the US population can currently receive the winery direct shipments offered on Casemates. At this time the following states are excluded: Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Hawaii, Kentucky, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Utah.)
@dave Thanks much. Just signed up.
Happy to be in at the beginning. Never really participated in wine.woot, now I hope to learn a lot about wines.
Got the Meh VMPr email…
Words of flattery only go so far with this cheapskate. I don’t drink a lot of wine - 'more of a Beer, JD, or G&T drinker.
So to be clear, for a legacy VMPr, assuming you want to stay VMP for the future, the $60 Kickstarter is a no-brainer, right?
$60 buys a year of monthly VMP fees and you get $30 of coupons for any Mediocre site back, right?
To put it another way… if you planned to only buy $30 worth of stuff over the next year, your VMP fee nets to getting cut in half.
Did I read it right?
@RedOak
Yes.
@dave thanks, done at the $60 level. Although, not sure how my Kickstarter account gets connected to my Mediocre account… I did use the same email address.
… and from the Kickstarter page:
@RedOak
after the kickstarter is over you will get an email asking for deets , fill it out and your 1 year of sadness/winechugging will be credited
Thrilled to see (and fund) this! Been buying woot wine since Rinfrescante back in '05. Looks like your goal will be reached in just the nick of time.
Looks like fun, but I live in a no ship state.
I think they want to protect the local producers of sweet alcoholic fruit juice, or something like that. As if I’d buy any of that.
@craigthom Actually, I think the laws do more to protect the distributors versus the winemakers themselves. It’s a crock of shit.
Hi! Meh VMP member… Looking forward to this new adventure
Meh VMP member and winewooter since '07, happy to be aboard
I did the thing. Am I a cool kid now? Are there cookies?
@arielleslie Sparky (@MarkDaSpark) will tell you those are only for joining the dark side…
Technically, it’s only 1 cookie. The Cookie Monster ate the rest!
@hanuta44 Yes. You need to drink the wine.
@hanuta44
Just ask specific questions one at a time, as they occur to you.
You’ll figure it out.
@hanuta44
ok the thing is that shipping wine costs more than shipping speakers
wine shipping will cost $7-$12 per order
BUT
if you get the VMP in the kickstarter($60 for a year only 515 left as of this post)
you get “free”* shipping for a year AND you get free shipping at meh.com and free shipping at https://morningsave.com/ (plus 10% off at morningsave)
*the free is in quotes here because you paid $60 for a year of shipping
oh and meh.com is a deal a day site that has 1 day a day(most days) check out http://mehstalker.com/ to see past deals
Thanks for the info.
Congratulations on hitting the Kickstarter goal in 18 hours!
Glad to see the support this site already has. Congrats Matt and David! Some of you may not know me because my handle used to be…oh, it’s the same. Never mind. This is great wine!
@NightGhost
@jmdavidson1 You posted a blank message. What are you - a ghost?
@NightGhost Hey, there’s a name I haven’t seen in a while. Welcome to the old days.
@NightGhost I thought I posted a response yesterday. Just wanted to say welcome back.
Where am I? What is this? Who has the wine?
I saw a tweet from @snapster. Same way I found out about the Meh Kickstarter.
Long time WW lurker, buyer and forum reader (ablickle over there) - glad to see so many of the “people in the know” over here! Looking forward to entertaining opinions and discussions and continued wallet impact
@MonkeySpoilers Won’t anyone think of the wallets?!
@markgm Maybe we need a Kickstarter to support the wallets!!!
hi @snapster, when I woke up this am, I saw your tweet, I woke up my son @lilboup & we both joined. thanks!
Hi. Glad to be a part of the new venture! Found it through the VMP email this morning
I’m in for the $60 on Kickstarter and my “backdoor” VMP membership. I discovered Meh too late in life and have been suffering the consequences ever since… now I can get cheap wine and cheat my way into VMP… Belated Christmas miracle!
I’m in! Maybe I can upgrade on quality from when I wrote this: http://parodyman.com/mp3/SkipBriggs-GiveMeJustALittleMoreWine.mp3
Woot! Excited that the Kickstarter met its goal! I went in for a personal party pack and a year of VMP last night and have been tracking the progress. So glad to see all of you here and ready to buy wine.
I’m in. Ready to see this phoenix rise and drop off more vino; even though I am bursting!
I like wine! I’m in!
Hola! I had no idea mediocre had a dedicated wine site. Oh yeah! I discovered Casemates via an email from…wait…don’t get me to lying…maybe meh.com forum…there goes my youngtimers again…
Hi all.
Glad to see this happening and looking forward to more wine. (I either need to start drinking more or get another cellar.)
I learned about Casemates from the post in the meh.com forums last night. I forgot to notice what number backer I is (is there a way to learn this after the fact?)
Oh, duh. 'tis in the email. I be #36.
I told you @Snapster, you build us the ADA compliant gangplank and we’ll come aboard.
Hi All, and congrats WD! That got funded quickly! Transferring over from WW, same user ID- looking forward to things hopefully being more like the earlier WW, and perhaps splitting some cases with local folks- whoever they are!
Yahoo! Thought my credit card was going to get a break…oh well…it’s only money…for great wine! Thank you for doing this and keeping us in great wine!!
Late to the party but in none the less!!! But what the hell are we going to call ourselves? Casematers just sounds wrong…and probably illegal in certain states.
@javadrinker caskmasters
Looks like I’m going to have to change the name of the wine.woot football league. Merbill is in the house at the $60 level. I hope to attend some of those local parties. Congrats on making your goal so quickly.
Not really into wine, but wouldn’t hurt to have some around the house. Sure what the heck!
Hi all, went in for the $60 pkg earlier today after getting the email.
Just discovered the Kickstarter. I’m in for a remote launch party + MVP. Happy to see the community continue on.
@hershelk That’s VMP, not MVP. It means Very Mediocre Person.
Happy to see the quest for good wines at reasonable prices lives on! My credit card will not be happy.
Found out from Meh forums, then read my email. Went to KS and am in for $60! Cedar Rapids, IA and looking for people to split cases!
Well, I’m here and some dastard has claimed rpm for a username…
I tried to pledge for both a ticket and a remote party but I wouldn’t let me. Also doesn’t let you add vamp once you’ve funded. Argh.
@robpm Wow. Sucks to be (or in your case, not be) @rpm.
I’m sure you have no recollection of it, but I fondly recall meeting you oh so long ago at Cesares’s place.
@robpm If you go to the kickstarter page and click “manage” for your pledge. You can only select one of the rewards, but WD and Matt want us to select the remote party or Sonoma gathering and then add the $60. Unless I’m missing what your frustration actually is about.
@klezman I did add $, but there is no indication that in fact got me anything. Just says pledge wo reward or some such.
@robpm
Contact CS after the Kickstarter closes. Or they will send Kickstarter survey emails after it closes. Respond there.
@robpm You know WD will have your back. He might even be able to get you your rightful username! (Well, probably not)
@robpm if only you knew a good IP lawyer
@robpm Hey, Rob! Could you previously have set up an account on meh.com and forgotten about it, therefore, the rpm username is really yours?
@bahwm I thought that might be the case, but when I tr ‘Forgot my password ‘ no email came to any of my accounts.
@robpm it’s now a half day later and even tho you pinged the @rpm username, silence. Perhaps customer support can determine if that username has gone dormant and re-harvest it for you?
FYI, here is the meh.com @rpm profile… completely zero activity…
@robpm
Woohoo! Glad people are moving over here too! Longtime vmp member here so this is a great add. Can’t wait to see the new deals. Hopefully some of the old wineries can rejoin too.
So are we married to this name? Cause Casemate is a book publisher, mostly war stuff, and that’s all it evokes when I see it.
I just changed my W.W bookmark to casemates. Its going to take a while to adjust though.
@Twich22 It’s going to take a while to get used to this format!
@bahwm Seriously. Can we have the poster’s name above their post? Pretty please?!
@klezman Sorry, kiddo, this is the way that all the Mediocre forums work. Initial replies have the poster’s name at the top, and responses within the thread have the poster’s name at the end.
You’ll get used to it. Besides, there’ll be wine.
And now I’m here because apparently I don’t already have enough wine.
very excited to pull this out of my “quarantine” file at work not sure my wallet will be excited… but “Meh” right?
Longtime winewooter here. Got the email last night. I’m so happy that WD got things rolling again. I knew that he would! Congrats WD and best of luck!
So, once more - is the “tasting panel”/“labrat” thing now something that you pay to join?
(I was an active labrat when still in MN.)
@snapster @Dave Just in case, tagging you both. I realize that the square I clicked on said I was volunteering to be a labrat, and I would like to specifically remove myself from this. Make someone else do it, please. It sounds like no fun at all (for me), and I like reading some of the more educated LabRat opinions.
It would be sad to send me a bottle of wine to savor, since I would indeed drink it. I just wouldn’t fulfill the other part of the bargain, and then no one would like me… :-{
(As an amusing aside, my number for the kickstarter is 18.)
@Shrdlu @baqui63 We’ll definitely have a way for people to opt out from being on the tasting panels / lab rats, it just might be after the Kickstarter ends and we actually start working on that program.
@dave
I dunno what I am signed up for at the moment, except that I’m happy to have been carried away by extreme pledging enthusiasm.
No Way should I be a Labrat, if I somehow signed up for that.
Zero possible payback on that potentiality.
Thanks.
@datruandi how to be lab rat…
@snapster That’s awesome of you guys. #42 here, and I’m loving that number!
I was bribed to come here with coupons and a tshirt, but I have been known to drink on occasion.
@Pantheist hah, Im here to drink, but I occasionally wear tshirts.
Thanks to all those jumping in to get this going. I am very hopeful that it will be as much fun as the old Woot.wine, and I await the first offerings!
Confused even with the FAQ, but I see you want to know I made it here. Hi.
@HitAnyKey42 Good question. @WineDavid49? @dave?
@HitAnyKey42 @klezman When the Kickstarter ends, we’ll be sending out surveys. When we get those back, we’ll then take a little time to get everything set up and entered. So I don’t have an exact time, but we were planning on it being fairly soon. I don’t know if we’ll have the ability to delay starts for individuals, but you can try writing in to customer support here after you get the survey and requesting that.
Your scapegoat has arrived, though I feel a bit nude sans the VolMod badge.
@corrado That can be corrected if you’re interested.
@dave
@corrado Hi! Check your email.
@Thumperchick Hi tc! Why you no chat anymore? We miss you.
@corrado Absolutely your fault!
@baqui63 work + kid + holidays. I try to wander in from time to time.
@Thumperchick Well, I wish you, humper and puppycat a belated Merry Christmas and a Very Happy, Prosperous and Healthy New Year! (You can know I mean it due to all the capital letters!)
@corrado I blame Corrado!!
@baqui63 thanks friend! I hope you and your family had/ve wonderful holidays.
@corrado
/giphy magic
@Thumperchick RAWR!!! MOHR POWURRRR!!
@dave, Don’t do it! He’ll go crazy with Power!
Same name as the woot site. Wine.woot got me into wine when I was just old enough to order and drink it. Over 10 years later, I’m still learning but loving it at the same time. Super happy to continue to be a part of this!
@sarah40460 We’re ALL still learning–even those of us who have been on a few tours!
Glad the days of internet wine continue!!
Slightly late to the game, but decided to reap the rewards of my VMP status for those extra $10 credits.
hi
@mehclock Hai!
This has me happy. I’ve never been very active on Woot (azture) or Meh (neuroticsilence), but I’m a long time lurker from waaaaay back. I’ve been debating joining a winery club lately, and this just seems easier.
OK, it has been a while since I’ve looked through the Meh forums. Where did the Kickstarter badges go?
@JOATMON You can see people with the Kickstarter badge over here, for instance - https://meh.com/forum/topics/day-zero-t-shirt
but the badges are site specific. People who back Casemates will have Kickstarter badges on Casemates but not Meh.
Is the developer of the Meh forum skipper add-in still around? Any chance we could get support for here added in?
@JOATMON
Don’t know current status of this project.
Topic:
https://meh.com/forum/topics/hey-you-wanna-click-a-button-to-scroll-through-unread-replies
@f00l The developer is indeed around, and just modified the plug-in to support this forum. And it works!
If’n you are not using the plug-in or do not know about it, the plug-in will take you to the unread posts in the forum you are currently in. Real easy to see all new posts.
@JOATMON
On mobile, more often than not.
Plugins. I miss them. : (
Works well. Solves one of my piddling issues.
Loonboarder on wine.woot, checking in here. Hope to see more of the cool deals Wine David brought to us over the years. Kickstarter supporter #1152!
Joined yesterday but chiming in for the first time. Looking forward to it!
Howdy! Heard about you via email sent out to existing VMP’s and went in for the $60 level to see how this goes.
What up
The end
@pgoodman Oh no, my friend. This is only the beginning…
You’re backer 1290
Same username as woot. Never connected meh with the original woot folks, so haven’t made it there yet. I got here because corrado shared a link for the new site. I’m happy to see a new iteration of wine.woot!
@tall4agirl Great. Something else that’s, “Corrado’s fault.”
WELCOME!
Awesome to see this up and running!
You’re backer 1331.
I’ve been a wooter since the beginning, and I missed out on being able to be a Kickstarter for meh so I’m in on this.
@ccamden
How can we forget, they were two classic posts. My favorite:

Nice, brief write-up on Casemates in the Dallas (still printed) newspaper:
https://www.dallasnews.com/business/retail/2017/12/29/whole-foods-wine-biz-replacing-amazons-leading-dallas-founder-wootcom-create-casemates
good job everyone - that helps the mainstream folks find us.
In on the kickstarter.
wine wooter since 2010.
Relatively quiet on the forums.
Getting my learn on, mostly.
@StingingJ @nightghost Has already made an appearance. It’s certainly reminiscent of the early wine.woot days.
Great … now I have to make changes to this!
@MarkDaSpark Done I think the mediocre edit is fitting around these parts.
@kawichris650
@kawichris650, I don’t think so, Tim! Needs to a bit better looking.
@MarkDaSpark
First effort quickie. It’s cute.
Had a couple dozen wine.woot’s dating back to 2014 and looking forward to this.
In this new format will you be offering anything from Europe? (France, Italy, …)
Idk what I’m doing in here
@pgoodman I don’t know what you’re doing either. But welcome to Casemates!
Attention! Please read.
I need to spend less time on the computer, so December 31st will be my last day on Casemates for 2017. I will return sometime on January 1st in 2018.
Thank you for understanding, I’ll miss you all!
@MarkDaSpark We understand. You’ll be drinking wine on December 32.
@NightGhost Just like on February 30th!
@MarkDaSpark
It will really hurt when you’re not around for such a long interval.
@dave Awesome. No worries.
Hi. I’m the same guy that occasionally posted on wine.woot under this handle. Looking forward to seeing many of the old woot favorite wineries here, and some new ones too.
Woohoo! Yes, let the games begin…2018 here we come!
New here. I’ve been on wine.woot since about 2012. Hoping I can get wine shipped directly to NoVa.
So, when’s the first offering? And anyone want to bet its a Wellington?
I found you via @Snapster’s comments elsewhere in the interwebs and the Meh VMP email. Sadly, the $60 level was sold out, so I’m gambling on the $15 level and hoping my VMP status carries across sites for free shipping.
And YAY for shipping wine to the Keystone State!
@cwolfpack3 VMP is cross site so you’re good.

Losthighwayz in the house. Sorry people. I am not going away.
@losthighwayz
Ack.
Test.
@losthighwayz Good! I was joking elsewhere that it seemed you got lost en route!
Also, I have bottles for you from last month’s gathering.
@klezman
Do you have any bottles for me??
@noshipsummer I left your antidote at home.
@noshipsummer Only stuff to drink together…that 2005 Havens still has your name on it!
@CorTot
WTH?
@klezman
Rnq didn’t bring anything for me?? And I am looking forward to the Haven’s
@noshipsummer didn’t you ask me to grab the armida antidote? Or is this not Tytiger.
@CorTot
I did and yes this is ScottW but some jerk already took my name
@CorTot I thought Pozin and Antidote were some of the best early wine.woots.
Congrats, guys! I am happy to be backer #185, in for the remote launch party so I can celebrate with my local wine buddies in Virginia. Hoping to find the next Wellington here. Cheers!
@DebRVA Looking forward to the party!
But congrats, and I wish you every success.
@joelmw
You will be missed.
Actually, you are missed. In the here and now.
@joelmw I would be nice if they offered tall shirts. There really can’t be more than 5 of us out there!
Once there is product I’d bet Casemates will mostly be one long thread for each offering.
@f00l @joelmw Ah, what the hell. I just pledged $5 for a forum badge.
@joelmw
I’m far stupider.
For I pledged much much more. I might even spend money here that I prob shouldn’t spend.
I might purchase stuff it will take approx forever to drink.
Welcome, @joelmw!
Mediocre, they’ve got my serious “id10t #”.
Hey @snapster, @Mediocre_crew?
Can I have a special badge for that?
Happy to see you guys starting fresh after wine Woot shut down.
Another long-time wine.wooter (2006), very-infrequent commenter. Backer #486, at the $60 level. Couldn’t pass it up.
@Foobarski I think it might be time for a new version of http://winechurch.com Version 0.000000002 is looking a little dated.
@corrado Wow, I haven’t even pulled up the site in YEARS. (At least I kept the domain registration going!)
New year, new community … yeah, might be an appropriate time …
Howdy - found you guys through an industry newsletter and backed the project! Backer 1583!
@dave Can you do the same check for @robpm, since he really ought to have @rpm
@dave Done! Thanks! I love seeing all these familiar handles from the pre-amazon wine.woot.
@klezman @dave I would very much appreciate it - I’d really like to get rpm back, which was my woot handle going back to 2004… Thanks in advance!
@dave I’ve changed it, THANK YOU DAVE!!
@rpm Congrats on getting your name back.
@barnabee Thanks, keeping rpm means a lot to me and makes it easier for wooters to find me!
@rpm, especially for wine advice! Or Magical Historical tours.
Hai! @jrbw3 SE MI potential casemate here.
@slicknik82 Awesome. I’m in Livonia, but able to venture out.
Hey @slicknik82 Interested in this inaugural deal?
@jrbw3 Indeed I am.
@slicknik82 shall we split a case? If so, I buy or you?
@jrbw3 if you haven’t already (crazy morning today, sorry) I can buy.
@slicknik82 I hear that. Just got home. If you don’t mind and I’ll do next one?
@jrbw3 Done and done. Happy to have a mate on the first case! How do we figure out how to meet up and swap?
@slicknik82 woohoo! I’m in Livonia. Daughter has dance in Novi. Tennis on Sundays in Southfield/Franklin. Plus I can travel most anywhere. Email is jrbw3mi at the icloud.com.
Hi.
transplant from Meh.VMP, gave up the wine before your time. congrats anyways, and I’ll keep an eye out for the women in my life who continue to enjoy the grape!
/giphy frothy-delicious-nymph
@AmazingChicken egads, crappy giphy.
/image crappy giphy
Been wooting since 2007 under jshaver81, didn’t really participate in the forums, but looking to change that here. Excited ! And in Chicago for those that are interested in splitting cases.
This format takes a lot of scrolling to get to the last posting. I liked the ease of going to the last page (most recent posting) at WW forums. Also in Chgo,
@jmdavidson1 you can change that in the settings
https://casemates.com/forum/topics/transition-guide-wine-woot-forums-to-casemates-forums
@jmdavidson1 One option is to use the Unofficial Meh.com Forum Unread Scroller that @jsh139 created and recently upgraded to work on Casemates. It is an excellent way to find unread content on these longer threads!
Hi! Made it over here from the WCC email & WW forum posts. Been building a new wine rack to hold all the bottles from December, and I’m afraid I’ll need a second once the cases start being offered!
what kind of rack are you building? @corrado had an epic tutorial once upon a time
@winefarm Are you talking about the actually good one or the “ghetto wine rack” that was literally nothing more than precariously stacked styro wine shippers on their side?
EDIT: RIP Imageshack.
Corrado’s Wine Rack
@corrado I wouldn’t diss a ghetto rack; it does a lot to mitigate rapid temperature changes, and that’s a plus.
@corrado I forgot about the “ghetto” one. It was epic also…
@winefarm @rjquillin
@corrado I need you to design a wine/cheese vinegar room for me
@winefarm Is “vinegar room” a thing?
@winefarm While you’re at it you can dry age beef in there too! Yum!
@klezman yum…salume/salami? That’s what I’m talking about.
@winefarm A guy back east I buy my natto from shares his product chill room with his wine. Guess ~13c is good for both soybeans and wine.
@melrod333 Metrowest MA here (in Sharon, MA) - looking forward to meeting like-minded local winos
@djy2g33 I am in Nashua NH, work in Acton MA and often head down towards Taunton MA.
@melrod333 Awesome, we’ll have to ‘casemate’ a case sometime Nice to meet ya!
I’m here, and I trust that my résumé and sporadic participation speaks for itself. I pledged at the $60 level and I have no idea what I’ve gotten myself into.
@JerseyFrank Oh God! The grammar and edit window! It haunts me forever.
I trust that my résumé and sporadic participation speak for it’selves.
Meh.com ks backer, woot shopper sense 2007 (I think), and you sent me an email.
Hi!
Oh. Er… em… Hi.
Just upgraded to the remote party, so there’s an earlybird VMP available right now
@airynne I see a VMP is available, but perhaps it’s too late for someone new to get the earlybird rate.
@airynne I just got the confirmation for the $60. I hesitated twice before. Serendipity strikes.
Hi! Glad to be here, long time wine.wooter and joined the VMP!!
Glad to be here… and VMP too!!!
Wine me up
Read about the Kickstarter campaign in a Recode article.
Post in here to confirm (or write into support if you can’t log in)
@dave Perfect thanks!!
Looks promising! Found this from the story in recode.
Stoked to see what turns out of this!
Looking forward to this! Long time wine-wooter.
Any ETA for the first deal so I can get a reminder?
@tomaste I read somewhere that the first deal will be sometime this month. But we will hear more once the Kickstarter ends.
@Twich22 Thanks! I’ll keep an eye out.
I am starting to get wine buying withdrawals. I need a deal, quick!
@Twich22
@Twich22 I suffer from the same malady!
Hi from New Zealand! I read about you in Drinks Business, over later in the year and will be in for some great wine deals!
pengu1n on wine.woot is pengu1n here. Saw someone has penguin, they are not as cool as me (maybe they are cooler?).
@pengu1n Depends if you’re one of those African Cape penguins or the Antarctic variety…
@klezman I have always been a fan of the Emperor Penguin.
@bhodilee I have always been a fan of Opus …
Wooter since 2004. Wine buyer for a while. Went in on the remote party + VMP last week.
This seems to be my calling card of late, so without further adieu:
@sdilullo there he is!
@sdilullo Unfortunately, however, I don’t think we will be seeing any Wellington offers around here.
@kawichris650 Likely not, but thus far rumors of its death have been greatly exaggerated.
@sdilullo On the bright side, I’m sure we’ll have wines from Clark Smith, Scott Harvey, and Pedroncelli to look forward to.
I am not a frequent buyer but I love the quality of the wine choices on wine.woot! I learned to appreciate the good ones! Hope to continue my education (fun?)!
Not sure how I missed the kickstarter until now… Looks like I got the last VMP package. Cannot wait to see the offerings.
@PapaPerry The VMP’s have been sold out since new years. Someone must have changed their package, and you picked it up.
@Twich22 That would be me! I changed from the $60.00 pledge to the $160.00 remote launch party. You’re welcome
@jmruru Thanks! I owe you a glass of wine if you are ever in SoCal
@PapaPerry Where in SoCal?
@rjquillin Old Town Orange
@PapaPerry Hope you’ll make it to some of our gatherings!
@klezman I sure hope to.
Will you reach $120,000? 96 minutes left!
@jmruru Yep!
@jmruru I’m so glad another backer came in and got it up to $120K. My OCD was kicking in and I was about to pledge another $25 just to get it over the mark.
@heartny Another ~$5k and it would have been triple funded!
@rjquillin $25 was in my budget, $5K not so much
@heartny It was just an observation. Still, 3x funding would have been great to see.
Been wootin’ it up since 2009 from New Orleans. Originally pining for a BOC, but quickly lured to the juice. Excited to see what casemates brings!
@GraysonM King Cake season is in full swing. DebbieDoesDoberge are DaBombDiggity! Best Bank representin.
Who Dat!
@GraysonM Not in NO, I’m now in STL.
My brother sent me the DDD King Cake pr0n.
@rainybank welcome.
Glad to be here. I am a huge fan of wine.
Can’t wait for my wife to wine about how much money I spend on here.
@Snapster, I feel like I should point out the Kickstarter closed on my birthday. This should entitle me to something extra special. I…would have felt this way anyway, naricissim and all.
@bhodilee I’m right there with you. I like the way you think. Hmmm now what should they give us lucky few with such an awesome Birthday?
I’m even getting a bunch of wine delivered today from wine.woot(RIP). Happy Birthday to me.
@pentiumjen You are, literally, the only person to ever say that and I now have to question your judgement.
@pentiumjen Hey there! let me know about the Chard if still willing to share. (MichaelWB)
@MSUMike Sorry for the delay. Been on some downtime due to surgery. Yes I have some of the chard if you’d like it.
@pentiumjen Great. Sent you a message on WW
Paging @pentiumjen Hope you are felling better and Haven’t drank all the wine
Been a VMP on meh for just over 3 years. Don’t participate much in the forums, but buy enough that the free shipping more than makes up for the VMP cost. Really looking fowrward to the same here. (I just hope I can find some other Eastern Iowans who would like to split cases).
Long time Wooter, glad to have found Casemates. I was already having withdrawals from great wine finds, so thank you very much for creating this place.
Did my survey, cant wait!
Backer 1338 and proud to be here! Can’t wait to roll.
Excited to participate with this all! to participate! Best wishes on the journey!
Being from the East Coast, I’m staying up late tonight in preparation for the launch on Monday! Can’t wait.
Hello? Is this thing on?
edit: how do I get the “K”? or will that happen when my survey’s been counted?
Very sorry to see the end of Wine.Woot, but happy to have been part of the Kickstarter for this new venture. Many purchases on Wine.Woot and I’m looking forward to seeing what Casemates has in store for my wine cellar.
Hi All! I’m from north of Pittsburgh and have an interest in splitting cases with others!
Greetings from Austin.
Moved over here from Wine.woot, of course.
Yet Another Wine.Woot refugee!
@arielleslie me too, never bought from wine.woot and it’s much too hard to not buy the bottles with the cute pets on the label…
Wine Woot legacy…
1 of 2 final WW orders arrived today
Shipping notice for the cases of Victory arrived today.
I ended up with two 2013 Bottles of Victory and one 2008. What vintages did everyone get?
@OldWooter 4 sets across 2 orders:
2007 x1
2008 x2
2009 x2
2012 x3
2013 x4
klez and molarchae are happy with the result
@Shrdlu I’m starring your lack of sense.
@OldWooter Mine arrived yesterday morning.
2008 x2
2009 x2
2012 x4
2013 x4
@klezman couldn’t find this thread last night.
2 x '07, '08 and '09
6 x '12 and '13
Pleased as well.
The KR qpr is amazing.
@OldWooter After a slight weather delay, mine got here today.
2007 x2
2008 x4
2009 x2
2012 x4
2013 x6
@OldWooter really liking the '12 over the '13 at this point.
Too many '13 in the cellar, not enough of the '12.
@rjquillin I’m going to stash my 2013s away for a while then.
2 orders, both 8, 12, 13.
@markgm same for me
My gratitude to those responsible for resurrecting ww, glad to be here.
Hi! I’m late to the party, as usual!
Hi, just got my last order of wine from you know who, and there was a paper saying check out casemates so here I am.
@greenedrews same here
Okay, not sure where to put this, but assuming I filled out the survey in a timely way, if I put $160 into the kickstarter, how will I know when the VMP status has been applied to my account? Would it show up under my account settings?
@novium I’m not sure about that, but I can say that when I hover my mouse over my Kickstarter “k”, it shows that I also have VMP.
After opening a bottle tonight, remembered the paper that was enclosed saying check out casemates so here I am.
when I heard wine woot was closing. when I heard about Casemates! Thank you and cheers Proud to be a VMP when I discovered you on Kickstarter!
So are my last few bottles of Woot Cellars going to be worth something now?
@OldWooter Worth drinking, for sure.
First post?
Just got my 2 Wellington boxes from wine.woot and saw the inserts. So, here I am!
Is it too late to join the kickstarter?! I didn’t know there was one going on
@NoGenocide yes that ended
@NoGenocide but you seem to have vmp…So you have that going for you still.
@jml326 Yeah, been Meh VMP for a while now. What kind of deals did I miss? That is sad…
@NoGenocide so far 3 offers. You also missed the KS. It had t-shirts, and home party packs, or you could pay to attend the big party in CA later this month or next
@NoGenocide You’re right on time!
@NoGenocide check the comments you may find people in your area who would split wine orders with you.
Found you through Meh.
Check check, is this thing on? Another escapee from Wine.woot. Long live Casemates!
edit: Looks like I’m missing the K from my kickstarter pledge…
@brentster did you respond to the Kickstarter email? if so there is a thread about it here somewhere…
@brentster https://casemates.com/forum/topics/kickstarters-last-chance-get-your-survey-in-and-make-a-casemates-account
@ovad2 so far all my orders have been fedex
@ovad2 The winery isn’t the one making the choice. To my knowledge, it all goes through WCC, and @WineDavid49, knower of all. It’s probably always going to be FedEx. I don’t think I’ve seen wine come from anything else for as long as I can remember (when dealing with wine dot woot, that is).
@Shrdlu back in the day…
I seem to recall a few orders shipping other than FedEx.
Thanks
@NoGenocide contact @winedavid49
I was gone from wine.woot so long, I didn’t know y’all had moved (and kickstarted!) But I’m here now. Yay!
@TeelaJBrown lots of new things to learn and old habits die hard.
@jml326 @TeelaJBrown
.FACT.
Way late to the party, but glad to be here. I was an infrequent wine wooter, but always enjoyed reading the discussion. Looking forward to continued learning and cool wine buys. Thanks WD for carrying on in new digs. Cheers!
Funny, the FAQ link under the “What’s This?” icon links to this “Welcome to Casemates” thread. Not really a FAQ…
@moondigger That’s the FAQ we have at the moment. We’ll be updating more once we have it.
Welcome to Casemates. We’ll get FAQ stuff working… right after this glass…
@Thumperchick
What a tough gig!
@moondigger @Thumperchick
@Dave told us about you at the party…
@dave @moondigger @rjquillin Believe every word.
@dave @Thumperchick
Too bad you couldn’t make it out.
ThunderThighs from ww did make an appearance on the '14 tour.
Well they say better late than never, right? Been a long time since I was active on winewoot… finding it defunct, glad to stumble upon casemates.
Any chance of Brandini? lol
@mschauber Just got some in the party pack shipment.
Welcome back!
@mschauber The Brandini has been making occasional Woot appearances still, on Gourmet.
When do those KickStarter “thank you” packs get shipped?
Will you be ready to ship to Oklahoma when our new law takes effect in October? Looking forward to it!
