Another throwback dish. Came up with this concoction in college, probably after smoking a doobie, haha. Macaroni from a box of Kraft mac n cheese, a can of tuna, 2 hard boiled eggs, mayo and a little seasoning on top = Macaroni Tuna Egg Salad. Tastes better than it looks.
@chipgreen@karenhynes@Mark_L@ScottW58 now THAT’S funny! My face is on the bottle of the Murray Syrah pic I submitted and didn’t see until the edit button timed out. It’s elongated so instead of a forehead I have a 5-head
@chefjess
Impressive lineup as always! What vintage and how was the Taittinger Comtes? I have had the 2006 and it is probably my favorite champagne. Still hoarding a few bottles…
@chefjess
Well once again the pic is so freaking small I only recognize a few bottles grr. How was the Mondavi I-block and the Egly VP? Oh and the LLC.
@chipgreen
Taittinger was 2012. Fantastic already!! Slightly sweet initially, but less sweet mid- palate. Apple, lemon, almond, brioche, fine mousse, and a wonderful lingering finish. Just beautiful. Stock up.
@ScottW58
Mondavi was fat and bold. I was told it was not decanted and only opened ~30 min prior to tasting. It improved with air. Very heavy but tropical notes came through. VP was amazing. I asked them to open ahead and let it breathe for about 30 minutes, but they left it in the fridge until I arrived (I pulled it earlier in the week for the tasting). Higher acidity than the CdC and Orpale (that’s why the 30 minutes of air but alas the bottle was finished in 5 minutes and I was the only one who noticed) and a little drier. 84 months on lees, dsg in 2020. Citrus, toast, floral notes, apple, yeast, honey. Just Stunning.
LLC was f’ing fantastic. 1998. We should all be drinking that everyday after we start with a glass of bubbly.
The montrose was lovely. Sadly SHL was corked and dumped. Silvestrin cab was very nice.
@chipgreen@rjquillin
It does, but will go at least another 10 years.
This was our annual Baller Night tasting. All bottles were over 150. Very eclectic collectors as some are PN, some Bdx, some Burg, some Riesling, I’m champagne, so it’s fun to discover wines that we would never think to spend that much on our own for a region/varietal that is new or those bottles that have been saved and now are shared among friends. The two mags were a late night pull from the lockers as interestingly for the first time, all bottles were empty and folks wanted to stay. Usually it’s a sip here and there and folks leave early. Great time. Lots of Ubers.
@klezman
2013 and 2017 were both great. I personally would not buy as it didn’t floor me like the LLC; and champagne is my primary large ticket focus with some aged Bdx thrown in, but both were lovely. Different palates make it interesting. The Aubert was amazing. I know you enjoy Riesling. The Nikolaihof was delicious after an hour in the decanter.
@ScottW58
I did as well! Enabler. I have several of the 06, 12, and 13 CdC. For a Grand Marquis, you can still find them for under 200. I think that will change soon.
@chefjess@klezman
I am always amazed how delicious those Auberts are considering they are big wines and always so balanced. I love me some Nikolaihof need to try one soon.
@klezman@ScottW58
The Nikolaihof was a 1997. The person who brought it is the Austrian Riesling lover so he did his thing and it was a success. I thought it was nice upon opening but it was delicious after an hour in the decanter and just kept getting better throughout the evening. I personally don’t treat riesling differently than any other wine so if it needs air, I’ve never hesitated decanting. Is that bad?
@klezman costco potato gratin (lazy nite); it did look better, but wasn’t hot enough for me, so it got visually destroyed during the transport to/from the nuker. Hard to beat those hangars for a simple supper.
@klezman
You mean other than pork tomatillos, poblano, Anaheim, serrano, onion, garlic, toasted and ground cumin seeds, cilantro and don’t forget a little fish sauce! I wasn’t worried about travel shock from woodland hills to my house, and it was delicious. An acid lovers dream with good body.
@ScottW58 Oh, it wasn’t a travel shock comment!
That’s pretty similar to how I make my chili verde. I’ll usually put in a touch of lime and i usually roast or char some of the poblanos. Or I make it entirely with Hatch chilis.
@rjquillin I don’t know how to predict the trajectory of this wines decline. This was the last of six bottles, and each of them were remarkable for the aroma filling the room. The fruit was still prominent. There was no bricking on the edges. There was no nutty or oxidative features. I’ve never had a bottle last for a day two follow up tasting. I was so impressed that I caved on 2022 futures.
In honor of chip dogs slow cooked in some Stubbs BBQ sauce Cayenne pepper and had a half onion I had leftover. Yorkshire pudding cause why not and green stuff. And a fantastic bottle that I wish I would have bought a lot more of!
@hscottk@rjquillin This was my first bottle. Enjoyed a lot but probably won’t go back to another for awhile. Pretty tight first glass, slow pour into a decanter, opened up, then closed down again. Shows it’s Pride components/profile. Definitely a steal.
@hscottk@jmdavidson1@klezman@MarkDaSpark I have a onesie 2014 Cab Reserve tucked away somewhere…was a WTSO purchase. Don’t think I realized it was 16.2 when I hit the button
Dinner at a local Italian restaurant last night with msten, his neighbor and my LW. Msten was kind enough to provide the Chateau Latour, which was delicious. We brought the Howell Mt. Sangio from White Cottage Ranch, a WW offer from long ago. I remember tasting the WCR wine poolside at the Sonoma Valley Inn during the 2012 RPM Tour, previous to the offer. It has aged very gracefully and paired nicely with Italian fare.
@chipgreen@Mark_L No no no! Born and bred in the Chicago burbs, primary home there until we sold 2020. I enjoy the cheese (and tubed meat) when north (the meatballs included cheddar bread crumbs) but no Pack for me!
Well generally Section 254 Row 12 if in attendance but if you want to find me Christmas Eve you’ll have to head south and I’m not talking south side of the city…ha! Enjoy the game, actually thought about it for a nanosecond.
It slipped my mind that today was Wednesday and I honestly would’ve been better off opening a Wellington. Instead, I was giving the Roman Reserve Cab Franc another chance (after being opened for a week) and it still tastes like balsamic vinegar. On the brightside, the carbonara turned out delicious!
@hscottk it was solid, I wouldn’t say it stood out though. I am still a bit congested from last weeks cold so maybe that’s affecting my taste buds still.
@jmdavidson1@ScottW58 I too have a 4 year vertical. This was the first one I’ve opened. I decanted for a couple hours. 6 of the 8 of us liked it. It’s a big, unique wine, opens with gobs of bright red fruit on the attack, smooth, then this glob of plummy olive funk takes over. Some minerality, fine tannins, long finish. A very interesting wine.
2016 Center of Effort PN from the last mystery case (no, not THAT one!). A nice cocktail Pinot. Low/medium acid but not at all flabby. Was just what we wanted for that occasion.
Tasting group got together last night for a blind. We had 10 blinds and at least one extra bottle per person to share (10 tasters plus 4 +1s). Fun was had by all! I didn’t separate the blinds, just took pics of the full lineup at the end of the night. Separate pics that show larger labels just for @ScottW58
@chefjess
Other than Scott appreciate the bottle shots! And I even recognize and have had and still have some of those. How did the BV and López hold up? Curious too on the Supéry CF and Élu, used to be in their club and still have quite a few.
@rjquillin
Larger label pics from here on out.
BV and Lopez both held their own. The nose on the Lopez reflected a much sweeter wine, but it was bone dry. Drink now as I believe this is on its downward trajectory. Same with BV. Not offensive. It was a birth year wine of the wife of one our tasters whose birthday is tomorrow. Both of the St Supery were lovely. The CF was blind and the blend was brought to share. CF tasted young, even at 10 years. Opened up during the evening as realized it was not popped prior to arrival. The Elu was firing on all cylinders. Beautiful.
@chefjess your tasting group looks like fun! I need one of those down here. One great looking line up.
What vintage was the Titolo?
The LdH was white? I’ve never had one of their non-reds.
@klezman
The Titolo was a 2016. Lovely. The LDH was indeed a Blanc. My first as was for many of our tasters. Not my favorite but as I mentioned it held its own. I believe a younger vintage may have been more enjoyable but this was still very drinkable. The Clos Pissarra was the only wine most of us couldn’t drink and dumped/spit. We all thought it had gone bad, but the owner insisted that’s how all of his bottles have tasted and he enjoys it. We weren’t convinced.
@chefjess@klezman
Proper pics make me happy fun tasting! Umm yes I did once open one of their whites for you many years ago at some guy named David’s house that was a wooter?
@chefjess@ScottW58 Oh right…that was a fun night! I remember drinking that sitting on the back steps. That was the first time I’d ever learned of LdH, actually.
@chefjess@klezman yeah I remember you using an ah-so on a wine and the wine shot up to the ceiling lol. Shortly after his wife said she was not feeling and kicked us out haha fun night either you love us or hate us! And never heard from them again, did you?
@rjquillin yes, home aged. As marbled as A4 Wagyu, to my eye.
The victory was phenomenal. So was the icewine. I don’t remember where I got it, probably a mystery case.
Went to a holiday party last night, food was great especially the caviar pie too many wines to take pictures of but the 98 Dom was the greatest champagne I have ever had.
@rjquillin
Absotively! This is drinking nicely. Everything is well integrated. Can’t say how much longer it will hold up but unlikely to get better than it is right now.
@chefjess I never know how to let bubbly breathe. I don’t really want to swirl it much for great if losing the bubbles and it doesn’t get much air in the fridge while it stays cold. What’s the best practice?
@klezman
I swirl, but usually do not decant unless the bubbles are completely out of control and the wine needs lots of air. It doesn’t go completely flat and still maintains the acidity. I will also leave it open in the fridge but I also find most bubbly has more to offer as it warms slightly. Admittedly, I opened this late Monday, only had one small glass, and left it corked in the fridge. It’s been a hectic few days with something coming up every evening so five days later, this was tremendous. Still fizzy and the flavors had come together as it was a little lean on day 1. The rest of the bottles will rest and I’ll wait at least a few months to open the next one.
@InFrom
I have not. The Amour and Amour rose, both millesime, are fantastic, even in non-legendary years. I picked up a few bottles of this Sakura bottling to try when there was a promo at an amazing price. I would not hesitate to try the Brut based on my experience with the other bottlings. If you do try, please post your thoughts.
@chipgreen use the serious eats version and read all the info. Educational and tasty. I decided I like it about as much as carbonara, and that’s no small feat!
Took my own advice and made Mimosas with the rest of the Gruet Sauvage that took 2 weeks to be delivered via UPS “Next Day Air”. Paired with a breakfast casserole.
@jmdavidson1 one of these may be in my (immediate) future. But not that vintage. I don’t have that one.
I also just learned that they’ve ripped out the Portuguese varieties and there will be no more after 2018 vintage. @WineDavid49 you need to get these for us before they’re gone!
@kaolis Not really, more very early middle age, just coming into its own. Drinking very nicely, looking forward to following it over the next 4 bottles & years.
@jmdavidson1@ScottW58 oh ye of little taste… ha!
I will say, they were not in favor 60 years ago when we walked into Gramma’s house for the holidays and she was boiling up a pot full… yuk indeed
@jmdavidson1@kaolis
That was my mom! Although back then I had to sit at the table for hours until I ate them you fucin kids have no idea what child abuse really is.
Drank some fun stuff the last two nights with a 15 lb Morgan ranch rib roast tonight wit all the kids and sisters. The annual baby Jesus was fantastic! Even the dog was happy.
@chipgreen@kaolis@klezman@rjquillin
Oh boy…mag of Larmandier= Envoyer, baby Jesus I usually pick up at Woodland hills when they have sales, they always seem expensive but after a few years they seem cheap compared to current prices Roederer 242 mags a store near me had a great sale, Pierre Peters Woodland hills, Chablis the winemaker Jason from Stereophonic put up a bunch of great wines for sale at around his discount on the WB board to make some money after he got sick or whatever happened also sent a couple of free bottles of his wine to fill out a case Black cat special selections were put up on winebid by a guy with a high end cellar on WB so I knew they had good provenance. Got some 13’s 15’s and 16’s for between $50 and $60 each score! Flaccianello Costco back when I think? Dog was a gift from my daughter on release ha.
@ScottW58 I’ve been preparing it a little different last few times. Different for me anyway, I think it’s actually pretty common for some preps. I cook the rice for a couple of minutes in a bit of olive oil, then add cooking liquid, bring to low boil, then low for 10-12 minutes, set aside for 10.
@klezman Reminds me of a wedding we attended a few years back where they were pouring Mondavi Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. I heard that the groom’s father was responsible and I complimented him on the quality of his provision (as compared to most wedding swill).
@klezman@Mark_L@rjquillin I was also at a wedding where the father of the groom did the same sort of thing. I made a comment to him similar to Ron’s and he said, “My son is getting married and I want to enjoy the wine.”
@davirom@Mark_L@rjquillin oh, the bride warned me in advance that they decided to leave the wine as swill but upgraded the beer to all local micro brews. So I mostly drank beer and mediocre whiskey.
We ensured the was good wine at our wedding. Wellington Duchess, harvest Moon Zin, and Noceto nuts.
@chefjess Wine was quite good, right up my limited bubble alley. Bone dry, mineral, almost tannic but maybe just in perception/acid. Opened up considerably over the course of about 6 hours today. I’ve had the bottle for two years and no mushroom to the cork. A baby still perhaps but yum.
@kawichris650 Seemed appropriate for today
@chipgreen
Lol I hope so
@chipgreen @ScottW58 Well I’m 5 days behind but all I can say is…hmmmmm… ha!
@karenhynes
I gotta know who is Mortimer Claggett?
@ScottW58
I dunno. The print on the back of the bottle is too small for my old eyes… even with the stupid progressive bifocals.
@karenhynes @ScottW58 who is Mortimer Claggett Cooke III
@karenhynes @Mark_L
Interesting.
@karenhynes @Mark_L @ScottW58
Someday my face will be on a wine bottle but only because I’ll be passed out on top of it!
@chipgreen @karenhynes @Mark_L @ScottW58 now THAT’S funny! My face is on the bottle of the Murray Syrah pic I submitted and didn’t see until the edit button timed out. It’s elongated so instead of a forehead I have a 5-head
A really tasty bottle with a Costco roasted chicken and Bush’s baked beans. Also much tastier than it looks
@ScottW58 Did you manage to find one where the white meat wasn’t dry as paper?
@klezman
I got lucky!
Still woring on the Winesmith. It’s really good tonight!
Also 2016 Halcon Alturas
@klezman
Speaking of Halcón, these just arrived today
@rjquillin get yourself up here one of these days and share!
@klezman Yes, need to; but can’t imagine that Syrah will be anywhere close to ready for years to come
ymmv
@klezman @rjquillin
Wine is not furniture drink it.
Tasting group last night.
@chefjess
Impressive lineup as always! What vintage and how was the Taittinger Comtes? I have had the 2006 and it is probably my favorite champagne. Still hoarding a few bottles…
@chefjess
Well once again the pic is so freaking small I only recognize a few bottles grr. How was the Mondavi I-block and the Egly VP? Oh and the LLC.
@chipgreen
Taittinger was 2012. Fantastic already!! Slightly sweet initially, but less sweet mid- palate. Apple, lemon, almond, brioche, fine mousse, and a wonderful lingering finish. Just beautiful. Stock up.
@chefjess @chipgreen Woof, that bottle carries a bit of a tariff doesn’t it
@ScottW58

The montrose was lovely. Sadly SHL was corked and dumped. Silvestrin cab was very nice.
@chefjess is the antikythera worth the hype?
@chipgreen @rjquillin
@klezman
2013 and 2017 were both great. I personally would not buy as it didn’t floor me like the LLC; and champagne is my primary large ticket focus with some aged Bdx thrown in, but both were lovely. @chefjess
Nice! I love that VP and went deep on them sadly have not bought a Comtes since the 06 came out and were under $100 at Costco.
@chefjess @chipgreen
Damn, empty bottles, and a lot of them. Well done!
@ScottW58
I did as well! Enabler. I have several of the 06, 12, and 13 CdC. For a Grand Marquis, you can still find them for under 200. I think that will change soon.
@chefjess I can’t imagine wanting to decant a Riesling!
@chefjess @klezman
I am always amazed how delicious those Auberts are considering they are big wines and always so balanced. I love me some Nikolaihof need to try one soon.
@chefjess @chipgreen @rjquillin Lots of Ubers
@klezman @ScottW58
@chefjess @ScottW58 bad? No, of course not. I just don’t think I’ve ever encountered a Riesling needing a decant.
Not bad for $20 at WineBid
Still working on leftover T-day bottles; that were Ar capped
@rjquillin is that cheese covered starchy stuff pasta or potato? Either way looks delicious.
@klezman costco potato gratin (lazy nite); it did look better, but wasn’t hot enough for me, so it got visually destroyed during the transport to/from the nuker. Hard to beat those hangars for a simple supper.
Went all out tonight and made some chili Verde and homemade corn tortillas.
@ScottW58 you wasted no time in opening your new acquisitions!
What do you put in your chili verde?
@klezman

Pinot was wonderful with fresh coho.
@msten
Good to hear; what life do you think may remain in the '13 RRV?
@rjquillin I don’t know how to predict the trajectory of this wines decline. This was the last of six bottles, and each of them were remarkable for the aroma filling the room. The fruit was still prominent. There was no bricking on the edges. There was no nutty or oxidative features. I’ve never had a bottle last for a day two follow up tasting. I was so impressed that I caved on 2022 futures.
@chipgreen that looks super cheesy. Drool.
In honor of chip dogs slow cooked in some Stubbs BBQ sauce Cayenne pepper and had a half onion I had leftover. Yorkshire pudding cause why not and green stuff. And a fantastic bottle that I wish I would have bought a lot more of!
@ScottW58 interesting combo…
@ScottW58
Hellz yeah! I forgive you for the green stuff.
@chipgreen
I’m easily influenced…
@kaolis
Lol love it!
@kaolis
Well played.
@kaolis It’s a slippery slope here
A tasty, yet cheap, costco purchase to pair with grilled swordfish, pasta and brussel sprouts.
Not really worth posting, but these Flannery dry aged shortloin tails have always been a fave and once again don’t disappoint
@kaolis but how was the OG N.68?
my bottles want to know
Flannery, yeah, always a winner.
@kaolis @rjquillin I really enjoyed 68 recently. Curious what @kaolis thinks. Hard to believe it was $12/btl.
@hscottk @rjquillin This was my first bottle. Enjoyed a lot but probably won’t go back to another for awhile. Pretty tight first glass, slow pour into a decanter, opened up, then closed down again. Shows it’s Pride components/profile. Definitely a steal.
Paul Bara Brut Réserve Grand Cru
It’s tasty
@klezman I keep saying I need to get back in the bubbles game but don’t. We used to drink quite a bit.
The boss wanted to go out for dinner tonight so we broke out some good stuff!
@ScottW58 that the French place that used to have a location in Santa Monica?
That duck looks amazing.

@hscottk Very nice wines. Pricey but xan be found on occasion at a discount. Casemates had a deal a few years ago.
@hscottk @jmdavidson1 @MarkDaSpark theoretically had a couple of these for me if he ever has the gathering he’s promised us!
@jmdavidson1 @klezman @MarkDaSpark I think the high abv scared me off the last time it was on here.

@chipgreen Another winery that I discovered too late, but luckily did get to enjoy their wines. Wish they were still around.
Cheers (The one with the cork and no date, not the 2017 with the twist top), a very good Rioja Crianza and a Sandeman White Port.
@davirom Latkes and bubbly…those do go well together.

@kawichris650
so now you tell us, after the offer.
I had intended to get a 6er, but forgot
@rjquillin
The recent offer is what inspired me to open a bottle from a previous offer.
Do you not have any of these already? If so, color me surprised!
@CorTot @klezman has the recent offer arrived yet?
@CorTot @rjquillin that’s probably the box in the front room
@CorTot @klezman

@klezman
@chefjess @klezman
@chefjess @klezman
Proper pics make me happy fun tasting! Umm yes I did once open one of their whites for you many years ago at some guy named David’s house that was a wooter?
@chefjess @ScottW58 Oh right…that was a fun night! I remember drinking that sitting on the back steps. That was the first time I’d ever learned of LdH, actually.
@chefjess @klezman yeah I remember you using an ah-so on a wine and the wine shot up to the ceiling lol. Shortly after his wife said she was not feeling and kicked us out haha fun night either you love us or hate us! And never heard from them again, did you?
@chefjess @klezman @ScottW58 Nice… miss my groups of old
@chefjess @ScottW58 I was hoping you’d forgotten about that incident!
I’m still easily influenced… to a point. Porter Road teres major with stuff
@kaolis What’s not to like there?
Yet another cut to source out…
With dry aged steak and green stuff and macarons. Both of these wines are excellent.
@klezman home aged?
and since I don’t have a 750 of the Victory, how was it?
@klezman
Was the Victory a mystery case score?
@rjquillin yes, home aged. As marbled as A4 Wagyu, to my eye.
The victory was phenomenal. So was the icewine. I don’t remember where I got it, probably a mystery case.
Went to a holiday party last night, food was great especially the caviar pie too many wines to take pictures of but the 98 Dom was the greatest champagne I have ever had.

9:
@ScottW58 that looks like an excellent night of berserker wine!
@klezman @ScottW58 caviar pie…more simple food for simple people…
@kaolis @klezman
Lol well I didn’t make the thing
Iron Horse 2017 Chardonnay Two Clones
@chipgreen can we update our drink-by date?
@rjquillin
Absotively! This is drinking nicely. Everything is well integrated. Can’t say how much longer it will hold up but unlikely to get better than it is right now.
2018 Desert Wind Vineyard RUAH
decent pour the 2nd night, a bit grapey day one.
UPS got three bottles, I expect they’ll be pleased.
Lovely bottle
lamb / Anson Mills Rustic Polenta Integrale / picked a little cauliflower today…
Trying out the new bubbly glasses we just picked up with this 100% Meunier champagne.
@klezman
Lehmann glass? My favorite
@klezman @ScottW58 bubblers…
@ScottW58 Yup, the handblown ones, too.
@klezman
Smart choice
Wine dinner last night at a new place. Great time was had by all. There were six of us and we each brought a wine. Fantastic.
@chefjess well that looks like fun
@chefjess supper done properly!
There’s doing it right and then there’s doing it right!
2009 Pedroncelli, Dry Creek Valley, Bench Vineyard Merlot.
A quiet first night at the beach for Christmas
@ScottW58 How was it?
@hscottk
The most open bottle so far, spectacular!
@CorTot

@rjquillin drinking well!
Is gonna pair real well with Candace’s lasagna in about 10 minutes here.
A little Savannah lunch…the shrimp spring rolls were outstanding…
@kaolis
Yum! Tell me you tried the low country she crab soup what year was the bottle?
@ScottW58
Just a cup, lovely bride the gazpacho. 2010 on the bottle. In a good spot, has been for awhile
Christmas time is here,
Wellington is near…
Night 2, obvious selection of one of the wines since all of the girls are here! Green stuff will be made.
Who needs green stuff? Looks like plenty of protein to me
@kaolis
Agree but with 5 girls another battle lost
@ScottW58 you guys get a house at the beach?
Nice protein - Flannery or Morgan Ranch? Or is that just really red pork and it’s Campo Grande?
@klezman
we did, flannery mini tomahawks.
with stuff
@jmdavidson1 Rack of lamb, parm potatoes, green beans.
@jmdavidson1 that sir looks delish
@kaolis Thanks. I’m an admirer of your cooking as well.
@jmdavidson1
My invite must have gotten lost in the mail!?:) talk to me about those potatoes.
Took some time to develop, then a beautiful burst of strawberry, biscuit, pomegranate with just enough acidity. Delicious!
@chefjess I never know how to let bubbly breathe. I don’t really want to swirl it much for great if losing the bubbles and it doesn’t get much air in the fridge while it stays cold. What’s the best practice?
@klezman
@chefjess Have you had their Brut Classic? I see our local wine store is carrying it atm.
@InFrom
Made some Amatriciana for the first time. Damn that was good!
Paired reasonably well with 2015 Liquid Farm Golden Slope.
@klezman
Had to look that up, it does sound delicious!
@chipgreen use the serious eats version and read all the info. Educational and tasty. I decided I like it about as much as carbonara, and that’s no small feat!
@chipgreen @klezman A favorite. Buccatini?
@chipgreen @jmdavidson1 nope. Ended up using linguine. I’m not much of a fan of round long pasta.
@chipgreen @klezman All good regardless of the pasta chouce.
@chipgreen @klezman had to look too
Took my own advice and made Mimosas with the rest of the Gruet Sauvage that took 2 weeks to be delivered via UPS “Next Day Air”. Paired with a breakfast casserole.
@chipgreen That casserole looks nice! Puts my plain, ol’ French toast to shame. But I’ll enjoy it nonetheless.
@InFrom
Haha, we love French toast. Especially when it’s slathered with enough butter to make Paula Dean proud.
@chipgreen Ours was light on the butter, but still tasty. We saved our slathering for the syrup.
@chipgreen that different from a frittata?
@chipgreen
Man that looks good!
@klezman
Very similar except this is about twice as thick, at least compared to the Frittatas I have had.
@CorTot
Oooo, how’s that drinking?
After a day of eating way too much, this seemed like a no brainer.
@klezman @Winedavid49 Or go on Pedro days before the end of the year.
@rc70 That still a youngster?
@kaolis Not really, more very early middle age, just coming into its own. Drinking very nicely, looking forward to following it over the next 4 bottles & years.
2015 Sonoma Cabernet Magnum
Held this one for a few years anyway
Merry Christmas everyone!
Sadly, my last bottle. Cheers!
@jmdavidson1
Damn I only wish I had anymore of those!
@ScottW58 17 yrs old. Still in a great spot. Memorable.
goose goose? duck
@kaolis AND brussels sprouts!!
@jmdavidson1 @kaolis
Brussel sprouts are my kriptonite yuk ymmv of course damn nice looking bird!
@jmdavidson1 @ScottW58 oh ye of little taste… ha!
I will say, they were not in favor 60 years ago when we walked into Gramma’s house for the holidays and she was boiling up a pot full… yuk indeed
@jmdavidson1 @kaolis @ScottW58 Except when I made them!
@jmdavidson1 @kaolis @klezman
I only said I liked them to be nice, now that I know you better I can tell you they sucked
@jmdavidson1 @kaolis
@ScottW58 Well done, sir!
@klezman @ScottW58
Clearly deserving of a belly rub!
@chipgreen @klezman @ScottW58 Nice lineup! CT tells me I have a couple bottles of that '05 Baby Jesus, in a good spot sounds like.
Pups rule
Oh never mind, I have '09
@chipgreen @kaolis @klezman @ScottW58
Those are all a tad high-endish. You finding them upon release? From where?
@chipgreen @kaolis @klezman @rjquillin
@chipgreen @kaolis @klezman
Ha I bought a few the 09’s after you posted a note a while back, I’m easily persuaded
A recently obtained bottle of 2009 Turley Dragon Vineyard Zinfandel. 16.1%… Let’s see how this goes with Flannery pork rib cap.
Rare gathering of the entire family.
Last meal before heading home for the holidays. Chilaquiles kind of with leftover pork chile Verde.
@ScottW58 that egg on top looks great (as does the rest)
Neapolitan pizza and 2013 Tercero Mourvèdre Rose
@rjquillin you still in the blending club?
@klezman stasis
First time with this producer. Not the last. Delicious.

Champagne with sausages baked beans and green stuff.
One of Andreas old friends stopped by so we drank a couple bottles. Who said a bottle of champagne and a mag is too much for 3 people?
@ScottW58 Not me!
@kaolis @ScottW58 perfectly reasonable!
A Mag mystery purchase. Tempanillo. Went well with steamed mussels in a tomato, chorizo sauce, topped with cilantro. Served with sour dough.
@jmdavidson1
Yum! That looks delicious.
@chefjess @jmdavidson1
chorizo sauce yes!
looks like cr*p but was tasty…prosciutto wrapped scallops, Marsh Hen Carolina Gold
@kaolis
I would eat that! Yup i keep these in stock
@CorTot this needs additional context
@CorTot @rjquillin roadie?
@kaolis @rjquillin no added context, just opened and put where you see it pictured.
Tasty BTW.
@CorTot @kaolis
He or I?
No wine tonight. Just cocktails and beer.
Does this count?
@maht87 It counts if you’re drinking it!
Shitty wine at a wedding or beer and mixed drinks. Probably the latter.
@klezman Reminds me of a wedding we attended a few years back where they were pouring Mondavi Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. I heard that the groom’s father was responsible and I complimented him on the quality of his provision (as compared to most wedding swill).
@klezman @Mark_L Too bad most likely didn’t even realize what they had, and the plebs would have preferred a higher RS.
@klezman @Mark_L @rjquillin I was also at a wedding where the father of the groom did the same sort of thing. I made a comment to him similar to Ron’s and he said, “My son is getting married and I want to enjoy the wine.”
@davirom @klezman @Mark_L
About six months ago a great-nephew also got married;
I donated a case to the bar to insure I had something acceptable.
@davirom @Mark_L @rjquillin oh, the bride warned me in advance that they decided to leave the wine as swill but upgraded the beer to all local micro brews. So I mostly drank beer and mediocre whiskey.
We ensured the was good wine at our wedding. Wellington Duchess, harvest Moon Zin, and Noceto nuts.
Veal chop…demi…chunk of foie…Sabatino black truffle…Anson Mills Pencil Cob Grits…
@kaolis Livin’ large, but ran out of change for extra green stuff?
@InFrom @kaolis
Lol! Just the right amount of green stuff never had those grits… Off to the interwebs
@InFrom priorities
With a half ass delivery pizza but the wine is fantastic!
@CorTot part of today’s offer - how is it drinking?
@ctmariner drinking pretty well, I’ll put up the rat notes in a bit.
@karenhynes
Karen’s posting two bottles…
*Thinks to self: Wait, is today Friday?
Double checks the calendar. Nope, today is in fact Saturday.
@kawichris650
Just got back into town.
maggie of bubbles
@kaolis
Yum! Love oysters and bubbles. How was that Filaine? The DMY is fantastic but haven’t tried the speciale.
@kaolis
Fantastic!
Starting out with charcuterie and Surly 8 (anniversary beer) which is a barrel aged oat wine style ale. Later will open up some bubbly and caviar.
2019 Hendry Zinfandel - Block 28
Now it’s time for smoked salmon, caviar, chocolate, and champagne (Veuve Clicquot).
Nothing fancy to drink, just traditional Japanese NYE nosh
Celebrating the end of my first year of retirement and new years with the boss and a great bottle, thanks to all and happy new year!
@ScottW58 The curvature of the glasses match the bottle perfectly. It’s like a work of art!
Happy New Year!
