After a fun day at the office this morning playing golf I took this as a sign.
So fired up an old Costco ribeye and a Morgon Ranch flatiron oh mama. First bottle got what it deserved and the next bottle was okay, but man that flatiron!
Went out for an “official” anniversary dinner last night at a French place that seemed to be just calling it in. Tonight, a perfect dinner at home from our local markets: slaw, pickled beets, and cold fried chicken. With a Casemates bottle, I’d say past its prime, though I only bought it a couple of months ago.
After a lonnnng day at the office aka beach managed to toss a lamb chop on the grill…finished up the Sandlands, opened up the Cirq…no pics of ipa’s downed…or the cups of Bud Light with ice…did I say Bud Light with ice, last time I did that I was probably 17…did I say long day?
@hscottk@klezman yes to the drink hold question. Quite honestly on pnp it’s quite drinkable but needed a couple hours to show its layers. Day two still strong. So certainly pleasurable now… I bought four, probably get after another one next summer
@klezman Speaking of lamb, and you may know this, I know you like the Flannery lamb riblets. Hadn’t seen them in a while, emailed and asked. They lost their source, no more riblets.
smoked and pulled a little butt…truly a simple bottle, not as complex as the other bottlings (limited experience here) and I’m sure it’s not supposed to be. Wanted food and a slight chill, which is just fine…as noted above, it’s hot out!
@ScottW58 small smoker, half of a small boneless butt…if you bought from casemates only two offers i’m aware of and both had this wine and two “block” offerings
@ScottW58 just re-read my post. actually I’m guessing it was intended to be a simpler bottling, but we enjoyed it and day two still fine Either myself or technology screwed that up. The rat for this wine in the Feb offer is pretty spot on
@hscottk My aching back! Yesterday I combined, arranged and stacked cases of wine to neaten up the cellar (basement). OK, tonight I opened a new bottle of the 2016 WineSmith Cab Franc (still have 8 or 9 (on the top of the stack, of course)). It was much better. Had the same mature color, and a little of the funk (probably brett) from the prior bottle, but was much better (complex with some fruit and a moderate finish), and I tasted the remnants of the old bottle…same…down the sink. I’m not that familiar with Cab Francs, but I often taste examples from the Finger Lakes, which are, without exception, terrible…with a particular flavor that all Finger Lakes dry Bordeaux varietal reds have.
2008 Elivette and a 2017 Marchesi Mazzei Chianti Classico Fonterutoli with dinner at our local Italian BYO. Chianti was nice but the Elivette stole the show.
I won’t bore you with the leftover hanger/flatiron and corn on the cobb with a simple Chanti. But the Chocolate Sorbet I made with a bit of olive oil and a few flakes of Maldon salt made it move a little (sorry a Seinfeld moment)
2018 K Vinters Royal City Syrah with Delorenzos tomato pies. Everyone was too hungry to wait for the photo but there is some leftover crust in the background.
Threw a bird on the grill, Yorkshire and gravy cause Yorkshire pudding is just bread without gravy yes a much simpler bottle than the others but delicious slightly chilled on a hot day!
@kaolis@ScottW58
Traditionally, Yorkshire Puddings are served with “drippings” from cooked meat. My Mom used to make them fairly regularly but we just put butter on them. I am overdue for making a batch!
cast iron, purchased dough, had this wine a couple of times, another on the lighter side red, it’s hot out (I’m getting kind of generous with bride’s green space allotment, no?)
@kaolis
Well I was going to bring some but you made it clear that you’re not a bubbles fan! Of course you failed to mention that your lovely bride loves them grrr. Next visit I will hazard to guess she will be happy ha. Oh and this was a beauty!
Oh gee, another Flannery hanger…white Marsh Hen grits, mild/hot banana peppers, porcini. Went 16.2, and it shows it, to complement the hot peppers, giddyup
A simple meal, Brats baked beans and some green. Although talking about demi I had to break out a little and drizzle on the Brats didn’t need it but damn I said God damn it was great!
@ScottW58 Demi on brat…now we’re talking! If that ain’t simple I don’t know what is… never heard of the vino, did a little look around…order in for a few '22 and a couple of zin…enablers all of ya
You can tune a piano…but can I tune up my bubble palate? Gotta start somewhere, from daughter’s wedding a few years ago, disgorged 2019…tasty enough but probably time to drink up, have a few more hiding somewhere I think
Yeah smoking hot here too ugh. Lazy and simple man’s dinner, pork chop a bit of demi with watermelon salad and mint cause it’s refreshing and a rose that spends all of it’s time in the fridge… Well except to pour.
@rjquillin@ScottW58 agree, looking mighty fine…don’t remember that wine from Bedrock, of course they only bottle 90 different wines every vintage…and another summery taste menu
Ok, finally some decent baby back ribs without buying Campo Grande etc, maybe better…this is strictly our personal preference not intending to be critical of anyone else’s taste…but when I want ribs, I want ribs…I don’t want a pork roast that happens to have a bone in it. Seems no matter where, grocery, meat guy, Duroc whatever a slab of ribs is just an f’ing roast with bones. We each get through a bone or two and we’re full. So spied some Niman Ranch at a new Harris Teeter here…looked good, full rack a tad over 1 1/2 pounds, looked like what I like in a rack of ribs. Tossed in the smoker, finished on the grill, bride made a little 7-day slaw a couple of days ago. Absolutely delicious. We finished the rack, ok a little for the dog, because it wasn’t a GD roast with bones…or did I say that ha! And it’s a damn good bottle of wine. Rant over
@ScottW58 Sure, go simple and open up a damn Marcassin with tubed meat!
Did you get an allocation after that previous email? Haven’t popped a '21 yet, how was it? Have a chard on deck
@kaolis
Well this is what a simple man does Marcassin was delicious and everything you would hope for except not older which is okay for me. Have not heard anything since the address check
Dinner with friends at a local restaurant. 2012 Iron Horse Estate Pinot 1.5L, with arancini balls, house salad with White French dressing (it’s an Akron thing) and a shload of bacon lardons. Entree was a pork chop w/demi glaze, whipped parsnip potatoes and cast iron corn bread. Pork chop was delicious and bigger than it looks from that perspective.
Some leftover sausage and made some chocolate ice cream that I hit with some olive oil and Maldon salt, life is good! Also a champagne we discovered in Italy a few years ago at my daughter’s wedding.
Finished up the Bedrock that was just a fine foil for some Flannery hanger tacos. Espresso and brown sugar duck, arugula salad (may have broken a rule with green stuff on the plate) some lemon pasta hiding, 2012 on the RM
Arugula and duck is only a yellow card infraction, I also accept Arugula on pizza any other green would be a red card and two day suspension! Nice work btw.
@ScottW58 Reminds me of my pizza rule: nothing green (green pepper, green olives, spinach) and nothing that swims (anchovies, shrimp, etc.). Pineapple probably belongs in that list somewhere as well.
@danandlisa@klezman@Mark_L sorry that’s a red card and suspension for you two! Spinach is fine in salad but is a foul stringy weed when cooked. No soup for you!
@danandlisa@klezman@Mark_L@ScottW58 Scott solidarity on this one. I only eat spinach in creamed form! If you haven’t tried Boursin creamed spinach, it’s simple and very tasty.
@danandlisa@hscottk@klezman@Mark_L
And I will always remind you that I hated that foul weed but did not want to offend you by saying so. A problem that I have gotten over. Now if I think it sucks I will tell you like the 15.7 Anglico or whatever the hell that was you poured the other night
@hscottk@klezman@Mark_L@ScottW58 Arugula is good on pizza, but so is spinach. Sorry if you don’t get it. Spinach never gets stuck in my teeth on pizza or sautéed.Creamed spinach, however is just wrong.
@danandlisa@hscottk@klezman@Mark_L@ScottW58 Spinach on pizza or in any cooked form is foul, have to agree. Arugula is green but that’s apples to oranges comparison. As noted raw spinach in salad is certainly acceptable. Didn’t watch much soccer but I did learn that if you receive a red card it really doesn’t mean much, because, speaking of oranges, you can get the orange one to intercede and basically nullify said red card…
Kivelstadt Carignane; from an earlier offer. On the heels of a Bedrock Evangelho Carignane, this is comparable and enjoyable. I am holding out hope for the Charbono in spite of the earlier reports
@pjmartin@ScottW58 popped the Charbono and I’ve had some experience with it but this one gave no pleasure. The Carignane however was several steps up the food chain
@hscottk
This was surprisingly good, it was also a mystery. I got 2 of the grand vin mystery too and tried one it was just great! God I wish I bought more, no rush it will last for a loooong time IMHO. The grand vin is a real treat!
@rjquillin@ScottW58 I also got a couple of these. CT notes suggested it was tasty but a bit primary. Do either of you think these will gain complexity with more time in the bottle?
@klezman@ScottW58 it’s ok… there’s green stuff and there’s green stuff… took me a while for sprouts, wasn’t easy forgetting walking into Gramma’s house and smelling a huge boiling pot of them… kind of like getting super sick on a particular booze and never going near it again…
Bottle was tasty, rides the line of citrus and good mouthfeel with more than a hint of mineral… actually seemed to tighten up and pick up some tannins after a few hours
Well last night I attended a Marcassin tasting, something I have not done in over a year at least. I’m just getting to old for this kind of crap but I made an exception because I’m trying to keep up with @kaolis I don’t have any of these wines so they wanted me to bring Champagne something I can do easily and I’m sure that’s the only reason I was invited ha. Held in some fancy club at the top of a building in downtown LA. Beautiful setting but damn I’m paying for it today.
@chipgreen@hscottk@klezman@rjquillin@ScottW58 Well perfect bubbles for the occasion…menu looks tasty as hell…so what did you/they think of the vino? They can be a bit polarizing. Being the fanboy I am, I obviously follow these a bit. I still have all of those save the '03 pinot which was a couple years before I started buying and the '14 which was never offered to the list, have not tasted either. So do I get kicked out of the club? ha! And haven’t tried any '21 yet.
And, as Thomas Rhett opines, my old tricks don’t work anymore
@chipgreen@hscottk@kaolis@klezman@rjquillin
They were all pretty damn good! I think the 07 and 09’s both red and white were best to me and the 03 was close to those two. 14 being my least favorite, not bad just not as good as the others.I think most of my cellar is French and Italian but I also love me some big new world wines! Hopefully I make the list this year
2012 Virage.
Going to have a filet and fresh NE Ohio corn when I cook it. Picked this up at Heinen’s as Emily noted she offloaded a lot to the OH distributor. Heinen’s got it all. Very little 2012 left but 2010 and 2011 is everywhere. They do have the 2012 Bourriquot for $19.99! So get some! These are priced below any berserker day prices I’ve ever seen.
[1]:
It was July 1 after all…
Good to be back in Carolina…
@kaolis I’ll just content here in Mid-MO (in spite of the heat wave).
@kaolis @Mark_L
Lucky bastids there is great food in the south not to mention great people! Hoping to return next year
After a fun day at the office this morning playing golf I took this as a sign.

So fired up an old Costco ribeye and a Morgon Ranch flatiron oh mama. First bottle got what it deserved and the next bottle was okay, but man that flatiron!

@ScottW58 Lucky you were able to find another bottle in the house to drink instead!
That steak looks amazing.
@InFrom @ScottW58 Ha! Steak looks divine, love us some flatiron, never had the MR. Those Liparita’s were tasty bottles, too bad

@InFrom that chicken looks crispy, yum!
@ScottW58 Crispy and salty, but not greasy. So good. Straight from the supermarket.
Campo St. Louis ribs and Abanico steak paella, with some Pinot on the side
@rjquillin Double iberico, what’s not to like right?
After a lonnnng day at the office aka beach managed to toss a lamb chop on the grill…finished up the Sandlands, opened up the Cirq…no pics of ipa’s downed…or the cups of Bud Light with ice…did I say Bud Light with ice, last time I did that I was probably 17…did I say long day?
@kaolis there is however a pic of the 8am wake-up call ha!
@kaolis
So nice! Still got your lucky blue shark I see
@ScottW58 Don’t leave home without it!
@kaolis Anything ending in lamb chops on the grill sounds like a good day to me!
@kaolis @klezman Love the attention to detail with the cocktail garnishes. How was the Cirq? Drink/hold?
@hscottk @klezman yes to the drink hold question.
@kaolis that is a sad day.
Maybe I’ll just have to go buy a bunch of whole shoulders and cut them off myself.
Smoked some excellent Baby Back Ribs.
With de Negoce Lot 250. Niiiiice!
@FritzCat 250 for 250…recall the suspected source?
@kaolis Flora Springs
Burgers and this seemed like the right thing to do

@ScottW58 If that’s wrong, I don’t want to be right!
@hscottk
Right! Happy 4th and 250th to all.
@hscottk @ScottW58 Anniversary wine on an anniversary… perfect
Yup, it’s what’s for dinner: burgers
And that bottle could use some additional cellar time
@rjquillin nice bottle…vintage?
@kaolis '21
A bit tart on pnp, but did well with food.
Cornish hen…
Post July 4th dinner. The bottle may be stained, but the wine was excellent. With Flannery hangers, burgers and dogs.
@hscottk
Those have been great bottles!
@msten yum… watermelon and avocado salad?
@kaolis @msten
And a nice hunk of feta? Yum!
@kaolis @msten @ScottW58 I was super skeptical when I first had watermelon feta salad. But that stuff is great! Better with basil than mint, though.
Another sausage ragu and bubbles, it’s hot out!

@ScottW58 A simple little bottle I see… nice
@ScottW58 good for you, great way to beat the heat.
smoked and pulled a little butt…truly a simple bottle, not as complex as the other bottlings (limited experience here) and I’m sure it’s not supposed to be. Wanted food and a slight chill, which is just fine…as noted above, it’s hot out!
@kaolis
Either a big smoker or a tiny butt, looks great! I wonder if I got the regular Grenache in my order?
@ScottW58 small smoker, half of a small boneless butt…if you bought from casemates only two offers i’m aware of and both had this wine and two “block” offerings
@ScottW58 just re-read my post. actually I’m guessing it was intended to be a simpler bottling, but we enjoyed it and day two still fine Either myself or technology screwed that up. The rat for this wine in the Feb offer is pretty spot on
@kaolis @ScottW58 Yeah that one is the ‘simpler’ bottling.
2010 Scott Harvey OVZ w/sloppy Joe’s and twice baked potatoes.
2004 Rubissow “Trompettes”, with steak. Fine bottle, and i think it was a $15 pick up at GO a decade back.

2016 WineSmith Cabernet Franc.
Interesting…
@FritzCat that doesn’t sound good
@hscottk My aching back! Yesterday I combined, arranged and stacked cases of wine to neaten up the cellar (basement). OK, tonight I opened a new bottle of the 2016 WineSmith Cab Franc (still have 8 or 9 (on the top of the stack, of course)). It was much better. @hscottk Odd, 2nd bottle, 2nd day, last few sips were really good. Does this sucker need to be decanted that long?
2008 Elivette and a 2017 Marchesi Mazzei Chianti Classico Fonterutoli with dinner at our local Italian BYO. Chianti was nice but the Elivette stole the show.
I won’t bore you with the leftover hanger/flatiron and corn on the cobb with a simple Chanti. But the Chocolate Sorbet I made with a bit of olive oil and a few flakes of Maldon salt made it move a little (sorry a Seinfeld moment)

@hscottk love me some tomato pies!
Threw a bird on the grill, Yorkshire and gravy cause Yorkshire pudding is just bread without gravy
yes a much simpler bottle than the others but delicious slightly chilled on a hot day!

@ScottW58 Yes it is a nice bottle of wine. Lovely day here. Not hot, just very pleasant with on and off fog.
@ScottW58 good job on the bread, and it does have gravy I see
@ScottW58 …kind of like a diner hot turkey sandwich, only not
@kaolis @ScottW58
Traditionally, Yorkshire Puddings are served with “drippings” from cooked meat. My Mom used to make them fairly regularly but we just put butter on them. I am overdue for making a batch!
@chipgreen @kaolis
Yup and Traditionally with beef but I was craving some
cast iron, purchased dough, had this wine a couple of times, another on the lighter side red, it’s hot out (I’m getting kind of generous with bride’s green space allotment, no?)
@kaolis

Very generous indeed lol, and yes it’s hot out! Nice pie and I need to make one soon.
@ScottW58 damn bubbles might have to open a bottle…used to drink gallons of…you were supposed to bring a bubble to Charleston…ha!
@kaolis

Well I was going to bring some but you made it clear that you’re not a bubbles fan! Of course you failed to mention that your lovely bride loves them grrr. Next visit I will hazard to guess she will be happy ha. Oh and this was a beauty!
@ScottW58 yak that I am I think I have a maggie of the cuvee speciale somewhere…you’ve been on a nice bubble roll
Making some raclette and put 2015 Bedrock Wine Co. Cuvée Karatas in the freezer
Finished up the Kutch, the Picard wtso seems to sell a bunch of so bought a couple bottles, meh. Leftover butt taco
@kaolis oh man that looks great!
Pork chop, cheesey Polenta and green stuff. I never mix my meat with green stuff
with leftover bubbles and leftover Chianti pictured above.

@ScottW58 “I never mix my meat with green stuff”…we all have rules… nice looking chop
Slapped some wings on the grill and then slapped 'em on a plate
@kaolis
tomatoes and cheese hmmm.
Burgundy and wings cause why not?
@ScottW58 well the maters aren’t green
@kaolis Exactly! no penalty no red card
Wine was pretty good.
@msten nice pies!
@msten pizza needs mushrooms! Nice!
@klezman @msten oh yum! wtso had some vintages of that for a while, was going to grab some never did
2011 Vincent Paris Cornas granit 30
All this icewine talk in the offer thread made me want one. 2022 Lakeview Cellars Cab Franc Icewine
2007 Twisted Oak The Spaniard
with all this pie talk;

@rjquillin You going to make it back up here tomorrow for the shindig?
@klezman unlikely
@rjquillin sadness
More shrimps…Frogmore stew
@kaolis
Perfect for a hot day!
It’s duck leg night! Saved the fat for up coming Fondant potatoes

@ScottW58 A better match than wings? Nahhh…ha!
ribeye, it’s the red meat for supper, with swmbo green stuff
@rjquillin well done…because it’s not well done!
How was the vino, swear I never heard of it but label looks vaguely familiar
Oh gee, another Flannery hanger…white Marsh Hen grits, mild/hot banana peppers, porcini. Went 16.2, and it shows it, to complement the hot peppers, giddyup
@kaolis
Nice work, man I wish I still had some of those Conn Valleys left.
A simple meal, Brats baked beans and some green. Although talking about demi I had to break out a little and drizzle on the Brats
didn’t need it but damn I said God damn it was great!

@ScottW58 Demi on brat…now we’re talking! If that ain’t simple I don’t know what is… never heard of the vino, did a little look around…order in for a few '22 and a couple of zin…enablers all of ya
@kaolis good deal on the Maitre Chai wines and tasty too!
You can tune a piano…but can I tune up my bubble palate? Gotta start somewhere, from daughter’s wedding a few years ago, disgorged 2019…tasty enough but probably time to drink up, have a few more hiding somewhere I think
@kaolis
Looks kike a perfect summer meal
@kaolis
That tuna isn’t rare enough, but it does look tasty.
@rjquillin Yeah I know, almost lost it, pulled it just in time
Pretty hot here, stemless glass for a cool water bath to keep the wine at 55-60.
Yeah smoking hot here too ugh. Lazy and simple man’s dinner, pork chop a bit of demi with watermelon salad and mint cause it’s refreshing
and a rose that spends all of it’s time in the fridge… Well except to pour.

@ScottW58 Been dealing some nice looking chops…
Kind of happy I only bought the 3 or 4 pack of this or whatever it was
@kaolis
Pretty sure you are the king of stuffed pork
With Bolognese

Sister and her kids well not really kids anymore came over for dinner so smoked dino ribs maybe the best bite in BBQ, corn and watermelon for dinner.

@ScottW58 nice spread
@rjquillin @ScottW58 agree, looking mighty fine…don’t remember that wine from Bedrock, of course they only bottle 90 different wines every vintage…and another summery taste menu
William Harrison Chardonnay Sangiacomo Family Vineyards, Carneros
Bill is rpm’s cousin, got to stay there overnight once.
Ok, finally some decent baby back ribs without buying Campo Grande etc, maybe better…this is strictly our personal preference not intending to be critical of anyone else’s taste…but when I want ribs, I want ribs…I don’t want a pork roast that happens to have a bone in it. We finished the rack, ok a little for the dog, because it wasn’t a GD roast with bones…or did I say that ha! And it’s a damn good bottle of wine. Rant over
@kaolis
Damn those ribs look great! I need to cook more ribs… And my dog will like me better
Picked up some sausage from a local butcher with a little pesto pasta. Simple stuff
and one of the new 21’s

@ScottW58 Sure, go simple and open up a damn Marcassin with tubed meat!
Did you get an allocation after that previous email? Haven’t popped a '21 yet, how was it? Have a chard on deck
@kaolis
Marcassin was delicious and everything you would hope for except not older which is okay for me. Have not heard anything since the address check
Well this is what a simple man does
Nothing fancy
The bottle, passible, the burger, outstanding.
Kali blend with blue, and sides
@rjquillin nice looking burger but pretty sure you over cooked it
@ScottW58

Yeah, I think you’re right. This is the leftover, but it’s pretty well bled out and pale at this point.
@rjquillin @ScottW58 looks quite honorable to me
Dinner with friends at a local restaurant.
@chipgreen looks delish
@chipgreen @kaolis Agreed, looks great!
@chipgreen @kaolis @klezman
Looks fantastic Chip! I can do that Akron thing especially with the bacon yum
Last couple nights:
2007 Twisted Oak Spaniard
2013 Engracia Pinot Noir
Both delicious!
@klezman concur on the Spaniard, had one a few weeks ago.
Some leftover sausage and made some chocolate ice cream that I hit with some olive oil and Maldon salt, life is good! Also a champagne we discovered in Italy a few years ago at my daughter’s wedding.

@ScottW58 You had to go to Italy to find a Champagne! Ha!
@klezman @ScottW58 warm out… probably can just stick with the bubbles and ice cream
@kaolis @klezman
Agreed and it covers 2 or 3 food groups
@klezman yeah funny how things work out, got a couple bottles from the list at a restaurant and it was reasonably priced, even better priced here
Käsespätzle and 2015 Laurent Perrachon morgon corcelette
@klezman had to look up the spatzle…sounds awful…not! Reminds I’m gamay challenged in the cellar
@kaolis my Beaujolais stock is shrinking as the prices have increased over the last few years.
Finished up the Bedrock that was just a fine foil for some Flannery hanger tacos. Espresso and brown sugar duck, arugula salad (may have broken a rule with green stuff on the plate) some lemon pasta hiding, 2012 on the RM

@ScottW58 Reminds me of my pizza rule: nothing green (green pepper, green olives, spinach) and nothing that swims (anchovies, shrimp, etc.). Pineapple probably belongs in that list somewhere as well.
@Mark_L @ScottW58 Spinach on pizza, unfortunately that is a go to for me. I always order spinach if I can on a pizza.
@danandlisa @Mark_L @ScottW58 spinach is especially good on pizza when paired with mushrooms and ricotta. And pork.
@klezman @Mark_L @ScottW58 I agree.
@danandlisa @klezman @Mark_L sorry that’s a red card and suspension for you two! Spinach is fine in salad but is a foul stringy weed when cooked. No soup for you!
@danandlisa @klezman @Mark_L @ScottW58 Scott solidarity on this one. I only eat spinach in creamed form! If you haven’t tried Boursin creamed spinach, it’s simple and very tasty.
@danandlisa @hscottk @klezman @Mark_L
Yes Scott solidarity, hell our name alone screams good taste.
@danandlisa @hscottk @Mark_L @ScottW58 I will forever revel in the fact that I made Brussels sprouts that you wanted a second helping of.
@danandlisa @hscottk @klezman @ScottW58 Roasted Brussels sprouts (with garlic and basamic) are something we love!
@danandlisa @hscottk @klezman @Mark_L
And I will always remind you that I hated that foul weed but did not want to offend you by saying so. A problem that I have gotten over. Now if I think it sucks I will tell you like the 15.7 Anglico or whatever the hell that was you poured the other night
@danandlisa @hscottk @klezman @Mark_L
Sorry red card for you! Clearly I have watched to much soccer the last few weeks
@hscottk @klezman @Mark_L @ScottW58 Arugula is good on pizza, but so is spinach. Sorry if you don’t get it. Spinach never gets stuck in my teeth on pizza or sautéed.Creamed spinach, however is just wrong.

Kivelstadt Carignane; from an earlier offer. On the heels of a Bedrock Evangelho Carignane, this is comparable and enjoyable. I am holding out hope for the Charbono in spite of the earlier reports
@pjmartin
Is this one tart? That was my problem with the other one. Ymmv
@ScottW58 Seems varietally correct to me, some tartness which is in line with my expectations. I’ll let you know when I crack the Charbono.
@pjmartin @ScottW58 popped the Charbono and I’ve had some experience with it but this one gave no pleasure. The Carignane however was several steps up the food chain
Speaking of good taste you southern people know what’s up! Smothered pork chops and crispy fried onions with corn on the cobb

@ScottW58 Looks great as usual. How was the Kap? I picked up a couple of the “mystery” 14 Grand Vin a while back. Trying to decide when to pop one.
@hscottk
This was surprisingly good, it was also a mystery. I got 2 of the grand vin mystery too and tried one it was just great! God I wish I bought more, no rush it will last for a loooong time IMHO. The grand vin is a real treat!
@hscottk @ScottW58 oh yum! Kapscandy highly regarded for sure but have not tasted any
LB mystery offer purchase and random bottle pull, glad I have a few more
@rjquillin
This was great I think I only bought 2 of this one.
@rjquillin @ScottW58 I also got a couple of these. CT notes suggested it was tasty but a bit primary. Do either of you think these will gain complexity with more time in the bottle?
@hscottk @ScottW58
It was only an accident I drank this this young, so any opinion is worth exactly what you didn’t pay for it…
@hscottk @rjquillin @ScottW58 drank one a few weeks ago… tasty, no hurry
@hscottk @kaolis @rjquillin
Agree no rush but I drank mine on purpose
@kaolis @rjquillin @ScottW58 it sounds like I “need” to drink one of these on purpose soon. Y’all are making me curious.
hot weather food, was 84F and dew point 77 at 6am …BS thighs, more damn cilantro lime rice, add avocado and that’s three green things on the plate!
Happy Thanksgiving…turkey thigh
@kaolis
How was the bottle?
Beautiful! Well except that foul weed on the corner of the plate
@kaolis Nice looking sprouts
@kaolis @klezman
Lol and I mean lol
@klezman @ScottW58 it’s ok… there’s green stuff and there’s green stuff… took me a while for sprouts, wasn’t easy forgetting walking into Gramma’s house and smelling a huge boiling pot of them… kind of like getting super sick on a particular booze and never going near it again…
Bottle was tasty, rides the line of citrus and good mouthfeel with more than a hint of mineral… actually seemed to tighten up and pick up some tannins after a few hours
Well last night I attended a Marcassin tasting, something I have not done in over a year at least. I’m just getting to old for this kind of crap but I made an exception because I’m trying to keep up with @kaolis
I don’t have any of these wines so they wanted me to bring Champagne something I can do easily and I’m sure that’s the only reason I was invited ha. Held in some fancy club at the top of a building in downtown LA. Beautiful setting but damn I’m paying for it today.

@ScottW58 looks delicious and fancy
@ScottW58

Very nice!
@ScottW58
How ever did you deal with that putrid green asparagus? That must certainly have ruined that course, if not the entire event.
Otherwise, very well done!
@rjquillin @klezman @chipgreen @ScottW58 It would seem you’re the perfect age for something like this…. No work tomorrow!
Well done.
@chipgreen @hscottk @klezman @rjquillin @ScottW58 Well perfect bubbles for the occasion…menu looks tasty as hell…so what did you/they think of the vino? They can be a bit polarizing. Being the fanboy I am, I obviously follow these a bit. I still have all of those save the '03 pinot which was a couple years before I started buying and the '14 which was never offered to the list, have not tasted either. So do I get kicked out of the club? ha! And haven’t tried any '21 yet.
And, as Thomas Rhett opines, my old tricks don’t work anymore
@rjquillin
Lol I don’t even remember it, but it’s okay asparagus is a delicious green IMHO.
@chipgreen @hscottk @kaolis @klezman @rjquillin

@pjmartin yeah wow that’s cheap!
