Well it’s my youngest daughters birthday and it’s like 105 degrees and no end to covid in site so time to start drinking some of the good stuff! And a finer Champagne I have never had Good thing I stocked up.

The only Zin I have ever enjoyed more than Scott’s 1869 was a 2006 Cakebread. Think I still have a bottle. Have not had any other vintages of the Cakebread to really compare. Scott’s 1869 is amazing every vintage although the % of grapes from the 1869 vineyard has gone down a little in recent years. (Actually the Grandpere Vineyard if I’m not mistaken but Scott settled/agreed not to use the name?)

So my daughter came over the other night and said she had received a case of this rose as a present and didn’t have room for them so she left 8 bottles of this at my house, I figured it was some cheap crap not fit for drinking. Boy was I wrong this is a gorgeous rose with blazing acidity from Mt Etna! and cheap too! I’m not giving them back Oh and smoked some pork belly with an Asian dipping sauce that is great too imho ha.
@ScottW58 I’ve only picked up her wines on Berserker Day (that is, until they banned her from the site). At those prices (about $65/bottle), they’ve seem like a solid purchase.
@jmdavidson1@klezman
Umm how was it drinking?? I know there was a kerfuffle over an auction bottle that wasn’t selling for enough so she pulled but I didn’t know she was banned for it?

They are still bottling the 2015, barrel by barrel as they’re needed. Dude is patient!
If you visit the Finger Lakes…
@rjquillin that was my Thursday drink, and well worth it. Tonight nothing, ER tends to not allow food or drink but once they let me go I’ll be drinking next weekend after my drug interaction risks are over.
@rjquillin Yeah not ideal evening to spend but I go to the best for care and they have my history to ease in treatment. As in the new pandemic normal, if you need urgent care please go, if not you may end up worse for it. I weighed the risks and alleviated My concerns.
@bolligra absolutely! No big hurry on this one, either. I’m going to miss these when they’re gone. My question is how the 11s are coming along. Anyone pop one lately?
@bolligra@hscottk
Funny you ask, I just posted a picture in the Pop’s thread from last year that shows a bottle of the 11. Iirc I didn’t like it so much cause it showed a lot of green meanies. But who knows maybe a year later it has intagrated? Guess I will try another one soon.
Let’s see if I can help at all.
Pop and pour: Looks like Pinot!..pretty, clear, light garnet. Nose has a little alcohol and some funk. Taste is a bit tart, light alcohol, “red” fruit, nothing else specific jumping out at me. Needs to settle down. Galette is just coming out if the oven, so they can rest together for a bit.
About 15-20 minutes later, nose now showing strawberry, bright cherry, and that lovely light “candy” I so often associate with RRV Pinot. Whatever the funk was is now gone. Palette has settled into the strawberry/cherry range of red fruit. Maybe some cranberry…or pomegranate? Definitely a nice acid backbone. Nothing particularly in the “earthy” range. Paired very well with the (freaking awesome) goat cheese and tomato galette, complete with herbs from the pots on my balcony. Note to self: make this more often.
The real question…QPR?
Yeah…I think. Do I regret buying at $25-27.50? Nope! Would I but again at that price? Space and budget allowing…yep! Would I pay the reported $50 price? That’s a tougher call. I’ve certainly paid that or more for similar pinots though I’ve definitely cut back on purchases in the past 6 months or so due to a variety of circumstances.
Not sure if that helps. I’ll revisit the remainder of the bottle tomorrow.
Last night cooked up a couple of Flannery rib-eyes and made a Beurre Rouge sauce, now I don’t do many sauces with steak, especially Flannery but good god this sauce is to die for! Also the wine was nice
@rjquillin Ha! Not out of work – it was my wife’s birthday so i took a “vacation” day. Basically meant i only did one Zoom call, sent five emails, then drank heavily. Lets hope i didn’t do any Zooms after i drank…
@InFrom
Kind of a hybrid. Had the bite of an IPA but no hoppy citrus notes. Not smooth, rich and full bodied like a stout or porter but smoother and rounder than expected for an IPA.
It was tasty and 7.4% abv is right in my wheelhouse for beer.
2012 Duckhorn Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Three Palms Vineyard. Tasty juice, not in my CT inventory, no idea when or where I bought it but found 2 bottles while looking for something else. Think I’ll wait for 4 or 5 years before the next one just to taste the difference.
@rjquillin A bit oxidized, but in the good dessert wine sort of way. Nice balance, somewhat simple for a 17 year old wine, but no complaints at $20 for a half litre.
@klezman@rjquillin
Lol I love the note you left for the Quarts, it’s two notes in one, you are all over the place. After I split it up and assigned points here is my take
Quite good lots of marzipan, stone fruit, and honey. Good value dessert wine. 91 points.
Somewhat oxidized, not the most interesting 81 points.
@rjquillin@ScottW58
You never heard of a good amount of oxidation in a dessert wine that enhances rather than detracts?
Or you do and you just prefer busting my balls

A ~$40 WineEx purchase back in January that I just got around to pulling the cork on 11 days ago. About 250ml left in the bottle in the fridge, don’t recall if I gassed it or not.

@ScottW58 Drinking very nicely, earthy with nice acidity the cab franc really kicks in on the finish.

@radiolysis
Still out of work at the “U”?
@rjquillin Ha! Not out of work – it was my wife’s birthday so i took a “vacation” day. Basically meant i only did one Zoom call, sent five emails, then drank heavily. Lets hope i didn’t do any Zooms after i drank…
BrewDog Vermont Vampire Black New England IPA
@chipgreen Looks like a stout, drinks like an IPA?
@InFrom
Kind of a hybrid. Had the bite of an IPA but no hoppy citrus notes. Not smooth, rich and full bodied like a stout or porter but smoother and rounder than expected for an IPA.
It was tasty and 7.4% abv is right in my wheelhouse for beer.
@chipgreen Those hoppy, citrus notes are exactly what I love in IPA, I don’t think that one would be for me.
Love that can though. VT is such a hotbed of brewing! We had a dandy stay in Burlington a couple of summers ago. So many beers, so little time!
@chipgreen love black IPAs
2012 St. Julian Winery Riesling Whole Cluster Braganini Reserve
2007 Pedroncelli Vintage Port Four Grapes. Should have opened this sooner. Still have 12’s in the cooler, so they should be ok.

I still have one of these so I suppose I should get after it. Thanks!

2018 Acquiesce Viognier
@klezman That was such a good stop.
A really nice bottle of Garnacha and very affordable! i’m in for more!
@ScottW58 you just bought it for the chick riding the bear on the logo. If it’s reasonable I’ll take a couple.
@CorTot
You read me like a book and a couple you shall have!
@ScottW58 as klez’s people say “muchas gracias!”
@CorTot @ScottW58 nice
Where did you get that wine? How much?
@ScottW58
Love the color…
@CorTot @klezman
Wine.com with a coupon and cash back they were $15.20 per

Also:
2014 Lang & Reed Cabernet Franc North Coast
2003 Château de Suronde Quarts de Chaume
@klezman totally forgot about the Quarts, and all mine are up with you in a locker.
How are they (it)?
@rjquillin A bit oxidized, but in the good dessert wine sort of way. Nice balance, somewhat simple for a 17 year old wine, but no complaints at $20 for a half litre.
@klezman @rjquillin
@klezman @ScottW58
And here I was thinking you were commenting on my storage being all over the place!
@klezman @rjquillin
Lol yeah that too
@rjquillin @ScottW58
You never heard of a good amount of oxidation in a dessert wine that enhances rather than detracts?
Or you do and you just prefer busting my balls
@klezman @rjquillin
A whole lot of both! but the one I had a whole lot of oxidation that did nothing for me.
@rjquillin @ScottW58 Yeah, it could very easily have gotten over the top. We’ll see what the next bottle has in store.
Sfumato

@ScottW58 I have 1 2009 left from another website’s offer. Ah, the good old days. Still have a couple Latitude 38’s as well.
@jmdavidson1
Down to my last one too, damn.
@ScottW58 I miss the deals that used to be had on Invino and Lot18, and even TSO/TSO Platinum.
@jmdavidson1
You’re not the only one, good times!
@jmdavidson1 @ScottW58
FWIW, I am sitting on 2 of the '09s, 3 of the '12s and 1 mag of the '11, all from Underground Cellar and all at good prices, well below CT average.
They finally moved all their storage into one massive warehouse and caught up with their backlog of shipment requests. IOW, it looks like they finally got their shit together.
@chipgreen @ScottW58 You’ve done well with Underground, if memory serves me correctly.
@jmdavidson1 @ScottW58
I have, all told.

@ScottW58 Agree, stocked up as well when opportunity knocked. TRB is killin it.
2007 Michel Arcelain Pommard Clos Beaudier
A ~$40 WineEx purchase back in January that I just got around to pulling the cork on 11 days ago. About 250ml left in the bottle in the fridge, don’t recall if I gassed it or not.
I’m quite liking this. Clearly it still has a bright future for some number of years.

Went great with beef tenderloin tacos and pico de gallo.
