The intensity is present right from the start. Deep, dark purple in color, this Reserve offering has inviting aromas of black cherry and toasty oak. The flavors of cassis, black cherry and berry are long, rich and lingering with ample tannin to reward the patient collector. Enjoy this wine through 2022.

Whitehall Lane Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
2 bottles for $109.99 $54.99/bottle + $4/bottle shipping
Case of 12 for $539.99 $45/bottle + $1/bottle shipping
@rjquillin they only have one bottle in stock, but a good price comparison for sure.
And fwiw a single bottle sold a couple of weeks ago on winebid for $45 plus fees…so $52.
How much more are you saving by buying a full case?
(Note: Tax & Shipping not included in savings calculations)
2008 Whitehall Lane Reserve Napa Cab - $120 = 18.18%
@tommythecat@wistungsten
I bought a two-pack yesterday afternoon but can see if they will let me change the order if we can get enough folks to go in on a case. I’m not sure if they’re letting us change orders or not.
Looks at priceLooks at wallet and aspirations of going full time freelance editor in the next few months Yeeeaaaah no. Maybe another time in the future where I make 6 figures per year.
I don’t think my palate is sophisticated to taste the difference between this and any of the <$10 a bottle reds we’ve had here so far. Good for you if you actually can, but not my wheelhouse.
@krichar77 Actually, none of the math above is based on the case price for the 2011 vintage. Cesare’s post calculates the cost per bottle, independent of anything else and my post simply shows how much you save by buying a case as opposed to 6 x the 2-bottle price.
@klezman Sorry to hear that you are not allowed to buy wine, that must be tough. When you are allowed to buy wine let me know and I will be happy to make you a great deal on our wines. Feel free to contact me at dustin@whitehalllane.com
Arg…if only all me mates in the Southern Nv region want to split I will take 3-4. Otherwise I’ll just have to stick with the 2. More cabs needed! I should have grabbed those Stewart cabs too… oh well. Continuing to nudge @winedavid49 for this demand.
@TechnoViking Do Vikings talk like Pirates? I’m going to have to reexamine all of my life choices up to this point if they do. I should likely do that anyway.
I don’t normally go for the more expensive offerings because its usually suggested to wait multiple years. I don’t have the inventory/willpower for that. This one appears to be good to go now so I’m going to treat myself to two!
I was going to rhapsodize about aged cabernets, but I realized that it would take at least 3 pages of text. Then I thought “wait, I’m NightGhost - I can just post a link to someone else’s words.” If you don’t know what aged cabs are about, read this: Why Some Wines Taste Better With Age
@rainybank@happyboy@mitsilplix@coxxoc I’m really exited about this one also. Big thanks to @rainybank for setting it up. Only reason I’m uncorking one of these will be for a very special occasion.
@coxxoc@happyboy@hey_zeus@mitsilplix@rainybank Glad to see you were able to order some of this fantastic wine. I know you are all going to enjoy our 2008 Reserve Cab, it is drinking outstanding right now. If any of you have any questions about this wine or perhaps some of our other vintages, feel free to contact me at dustin@whitehalllane.com.
Enjoy!
Well, bought a case and would be willing to split if someone in So Cal is interested. Cost/bottle $48.60 I am in the Upland area but travel to Norco daily and into Pasadena about once a week, could meet somewhere in between in the evening…
Is this the same vintage that we had several years ago on WineWoot? I remember the Whitehall Lane Cab and the glass “stoppers,” but I can’t recall what year the wine was from.
@KNmeh7@mrlbem@rpm Looking back thru CT, I don’t see WW listed as a purchase store for any vintage 2001~2007.
Difficult to imagine all that purchased, and use CT, failed to make a CT entry.
@KNmeh7@rpm Cool. Thanks. Offer may have been one 04 and one 05. Between this and the Stewart Cellars Cab a few weeks ago, the offerings here remind me of pre-Amazon WW, which is a very good thing.
Nothing against the wine, but I absolutely hate the glass stoppers. Such a PITA. We were member s of a winery that used them exclusively. Legitimately contributed to my cancellation.
@trifecta They’ve started appearing on liquor bottles, too. My favorite gin, Ransom, switched to a glass stopper a year or so ago. I just put in a dorky deer head metal stopper when I open a bottle since I’m not going to deal with that glass mess.
@karenhynes@trifecta@Twich22 “develop more slowly” would seem a major understatement when comparing O-ring “glass” seal to cork. Does it really, in a traditional way, develop at all?
trifecta: Well, you just saved me a lot of money. I loathe glass stoppers. I’m old, and it requires finding someone else to open a bottle of wine. Nope. Too bad, this looked like I’d have been happy with it, too.
@Shrdlu which is too bad because a lab rat is what I’ve been waiting for. I’ve never encountered a glass stopper so I’m not as frustrated (yet) but a 10 year aged cab is attractive. At that price I just want to hear someone with nothing to gain or lose say if they like it. The CT notes seem brief and mixed.
@trifecta What makes them a PITA for you? I have the 2004 and 2005 from years back offered in Woot. Pretty easy opening, I had a bottle last month. Cut the foil, not much differently than cutting foil on a cork bottle. Twist the top and off it comes? Much as I prefer a nice long cork, it’s kind of fun and a nice change of pace. Pretty cool looking too.
@trifecta The cool thing about this wine with the glass closure is you dont need a opener. You can pop it open anytime you are with friends and want to enjoy a fantastic wine.
@scott0210@rjquillin@Shrdlu@Twich22 Sorry to have such a late response. Life got in the way. I think everyone has small and rather insignificant things that get them more riled up than they should. Glass stoppers is one of those things for me.
The biggest reason I hate them is because of the fallacy that they are easy to open. Having gone through a couple dozen now, I’ve had only a single one that could just be wiggled and twisted out. You have to cut the foil with a knife and then you have to wedge the knife from your opener to pry the glass stopper off. I normally just slip the capsule off most bottles unless I care about presentation, which you can’t do with these bottles either.
Then comes the re-corking. It only took me a couple bottles to stop using the glass to re-seal the bottle. Honestly, now once I get them off after many curse words I want to angrily throw them at something, but then gather myself and deposit directly in the trash.
On top of them being a PITA, I have now had 3 bottles out of 2 dozen that have been completely oxidized due to a poor seal. Then you have the fact that they are more expensive to produce, and the aging characteristics are unknown or suspect.
I don’t want folks to think I hate them because I am firmly rooted in the cork only camp. I’m fine with screwcaps, and would take them any day of the week over glass stoppers.
Anyway… none of this matters really. It’s not like I won’t drink the remaining bottles I have. I just use it as a data point on deciding whether or not to purchase.
Any lab rats out there? I’m intrigued by this one. Might have to pull the trigger on two unless there are a few people in the Richmond, VA area that want to split up a case.
This is a very interesting offer. I liked the 2004 very much. The opportunity to get a very high quality Napa Valley (Rutherford Bench?) Cabernet at the age of close to 10 for this price is very unusual. While 2008 isn’t my favorite Napa vintage of the last decade by a long shot, I think anyone who likes Cabernet at all should at least get a couple of bottles, if only to have the opportunity to drink an older Cabernet that should be coming together now and for the next 3-4 years.
@rpm kind of hard to recommend for this price if you haven’t tasted…no? I’ve had more than a few Whitehall Lane wines. Some better than others. Without tasting this I’d be hard pressed to recommend that someone should at least get a couple of bottles just because you enjoyed the 2004. But that’s just me.
Cheers!
@kaolis Finding 10 year old Cabernet at this price is unusual, especially for most people who live in places where a good selection is not common to begin with. If one has never had an aged Cab, this should be worth the price as a learning experience alone. Obviously, there is uncertainty if you haven’t tasted the wine, and I’d prefer to see a review by someone like PW or SH, but I thought it important to let people know this is an unusual offering.
@rpm I think I might have to get at least a couple. I don’t know enough yet about my tastes to know if I’ll be able to appreciate it, but I gotta learn somehow, and this seems to be reasonable for that!
@rpm Wondering why you would say an aged 10 yr old cab at this price be unusual? Because it’s Rutherford? Because it was a phenomenal year? Because it’s very limited? Because it’s better than Corison Kronos? I have a lot of 10 yr+ Cab in the basement and wondering it I have a gold mine!
@Boatman72Most consumers don’t have a cellar full of aged Cabernet which they purchased at prices like this or less for similar quality. If you do, that’s great. So do I. I have 2nd-5th Growth Bordeaux, for example, that sit soundly sleeping, which I purchased at prices lower than current ‘decent’ Cabernet. But, for most, it’s hard to wait and many don’t see a reason to spend now to drink in 10 years, until they’ve had aged Cabernet. Ask anyone who was on the the rpm Tours where they got to taste Cabs ranging from 10 to over 40 years old. Many said it was a revelation for them and now they buy to hold. So, for those who haven’t had the chance, this is a real opportunity.
@jmdavidson1@kaolis no, they’re outstanding winemakers whose wines were much appreciated on wine.woot. Both also have exceptional palates and are superior wine educators…great guys as well!
@jmdavidson1@rpm that’s the answer I was looking for. I’m sure they have great palates. I’m sure they are great peeps. But they have nothing to do with this offer. Just checking and wondering why you brought them up (even if I didn’t know who you meant)
@jmdavidson1@kaolis I brought them up because both were often lab rats on wine.woot, both wrote excellent, informative, reviews when they did, and I trust both of their palates. Hence, I would have liked to see a review by on or both of them.
@connorbush During the kickstarter you could become a lab rat by backing casemates at the $100 level. On Wine.Woot all you really had to do, as far as I know, was say you were interested in becoming a lab rat. For casemates, I dont know what the protocol will be but asking the casemates staff would probably be step 1.
@bhodilee to collect the $200, you will need to both spell and pronounce indubitably correctly, whilst also using it properly in a sentence, and additionally having a blood alcohol content that is in excess of .08
We had lasagna tonight and I went to the ready to drink shelf in my cellar and low and behold there was the 2004 white hall lane cab sauv silver anniversary reserve. Here’s my notes:
on opening: nose of dark cherries, dusty bramble, and a little heat. Color was a dark ruby with none of the brick that I would expect from a cab of this age. Taste was more dark berries and dust with medium acidity and tannins. The tannins felt quite a bit younger than I expected. A bit more heat than I expected for a 14.2% AbV. Went well with the meaty lasanga and my wife remarked that she liked it very much. After about an hour I came back to a glass I left out and the heat had blown off. Still lots of dark berries and young tasting tannins. In conclusion I’m wondering if the glass enclosure (wife thought it was very cool and very good idea because no stopper, no cork screw needed) makes the wine age very slowly. Wine definitely tasted much younger than I would have expected (I have some cabs over 20 years and follow rpms 10 year rule). Would think this could have probably stayed in the cellar for a good number of additional years. Overall I would call this a great example of Napa Cab Sauv at an excellent price. Sorry to be posting this at the last minute!

@MarkDaSpark Are you sure you only want 2 bottles? The case price of $45 per bottle is a fantastic price for this beautifully aged Cab.

2008, wasn’t that the year with some smoke tainted wines? Peter’s recent update brought that back to mind…
@chipgreen don’t recall any smoke taint in Napa Valley '08.
@chipgreen @trifecta ,
According to this, it was mostly Mendocino and Northern Sonoma wines affected.
Will smoke taint be an issue with 2008 vintage
@chipgreen @MarkDaSpark @trifecta heh, Sparky said taint
@chipgreen The 2008 harvest in Napa Valley was not affected by any smoke taint. It was over in the Sonoma County, Mendoncino Counties.
@WhitehallLane @MarkDaSpark Thanks, I knew that it affected a limited area but didn’t remember where exactly.
No smoke tant in Napa. This is the real deal Napa Valley cab.

I could definitely take 2 or 3 if we can find a few more dallas folks
@rainybank I’ll buy whatever you don’t manage to sell. I wanted more than 2 bottles but less than a whole case so that would work perfect for me.

Is this the same vintage that we had several years ago on WineWoot? I remember the Whitehall Lane Cab and the glass “stoppers,” but I can’t recall what year the wine was from.
@mrlbem I asked my friend, and it was several years ago. He got a 2005 on WW.

Ask anyone who was on the the rpm Tours where they got to taste Cabs ranging from 10 to over 40 years old. Many said it was a revelation for them and now they buy to hold. So, for those who haven’t had the chance, this is a real opportunity.
@rpm sorry to question your cellar and tastes…and what/who is PW or SH? Again, sorry if I don’t know the shorthand
Cheers!
@kaolis Ha, ha.
@kaolis Peter Wellington and Scott Harvey.
@kaolis @rpm Peter Wellington (PW) or Scott Harvey (SH).
@jmdavidson1 @rpm Thanks… are they Whitehall Lane fans/insiders?
@jmdavidson1 @kaolis no, they’re outstanding winemakers whose wines were much appreciated on wine.woot. Both also have exceptional palates and are superior wine educators…great guys as well!
@Boatman72 @rpm And there it is. The self-righteous rpm I love to hate.
@jmdavidson1 @rpm that’s the answer I was looking for. I’m sure they have great palates. I’m sure they are great peeps. But they have nothing to do with this offer. Just checking and wondering why you brought them up (even if I didn’t know who you meant)
@jmdavidson1 @kaolis I brought them up because both were often lab rats on wine.woot, both wrote excellent, informative, reviews when they did, and I trust both of their palates. Hence, I would have liked to see a review by on or both of them.
Anyone in SE MI want to split like 4 ways?
I want it, but 540 for a case isn’t happening for 6 months or so
How do I become a lab rat? It seems to be in high demand.
@connorbush shoot me an email and i’ll get you on the list. david@winecountryconnect.com
Anyone even remotely close to Hays, Ks? Would love to do a split 4,3,or 2. Can get delivered in a pretty large radius.
Anyone in San Gabriel Valley wants to split a case 2 ways? Or take 4?
@calvinko805 I’ve bought a case could give you 4 I go to Pasadena about once a week we could meet there, if interested email me

Can the vino seal be used as a monocle after drinking a bottle of this wine?
@bhodilee yes, but only to read the fine print on wine bottles
@Vince247 fine, but can I at least use the word “indubitably” for no apparent reason?
@Vince247 Oh, and if I can pass go whilst collecting $200, that would be ideal.
@bhodilee to collect the $200, you will need to both spell and pronounce indubitably correctly, whilst also using it properly in a sentence, and additionally having a blood alcohol content that is in excess of .08
@bhodilee @Vince247 Only with sake would that be possible.
@bhodilee @rjquillin In this case mate, you’re on the wrong site
@Vince247 oh ho, I can do at least one of those things!
@rjquillin @Vince247 all things through sake
@bhodilee @rjquillin @Vince247 For heaven’s sake, this is indubitably the best wine site I’ve ever bin two.
@bhodilee @NightGhost @rjquillin helping you decide which wine to drink on a case-by-case basis
@NightGhost @rjquillin @Vince247 I will not doubt your 0.08 credentials.
