THAT REMINDS ME OF: The watershed.

Pretty straightforward word if you break it down. It’s land that sheds water. Whether its snow or rain water, this chunk of earth tends to move whatever it accumulates to a more typical body of water, or what I just now learned is an actual term, waterbody. Could be mountains. Could be plains. Could be any piece land surrounding a river but not considered part of the river that drains into that river. The Mississippi River watershed is literally the one million square miles of land surrounding it and its tributaries.

You may have heard of a “watershed moment” before. What does this have to do with watersheds? Well, watersheds are characterized by being locations where water moves from one place to another. You could describe them as transitional. Ergo, a watershed moment is a transitional moment.
