Our Estate Riesling from vineyards directly in front of our winery includes the original 1979 planting. High sun exposure and unique soils yield an intensely perfumed and expressive wine exhibiting pure varietal character. Aromas of jasmine flower and marmalade lead to flavors of stone fruits and a pleasing minerality. The fresh acidity and long finish mean you can enjoy watching this wine develop for years.
Wine Notes
AROMA:
lemon drops, kumquat, kiwi, white pepper, petrol, feijoa, quince
Grapes were hand-picked and brought directly to the winery in 1/2 ton totes. They were carefully sorted by hand; whole cluster pressed and placed into temperature-controlled stainless steel fermenters where it was slowly cold fermented at 45°F for maximum varietal character. The wine was fermented in small lots so we could use more than one yeast strain to give more complexity to the aromatics. It was an extremely cool, slow fermentation that took more than a month to complete. The wine was aged in stainless steel before being bottled and then aged in a bottle for a minimum of one year.
Vintage
Bud break started in April for both of our Estates, and the nice weather following gave us an excellent push toward an early bloom. Weather at bloom was variable, starting out warm then turning wet. The variable weather created a four-week bloom spread from our earliest block at the winery to our latest block of high elevation Pinot Gris at Twelve Oaks Estate. All of the fruit at the Anne Amie Estate was set and well past the actual bloom phase before we saw rain and cool temperatures. Twelve Oaks was about halfway through bloom before the weather changed. This diversity in bloom weather and fruit set gave us strength in our ability to spread out the risk associated with any unknown weather during harvest. Since the clock toward harvest starts at 50% bloom, it was comforting to know that a good portion of our fruit was tracking toward an early harvest, with the rest coming in on more average harvest date. This year’s average and larger cluster sizes with two to three clusters per shoot meant we had to thin extra crop, done to ensure we achieve maximum ripeness in an average year and consistently produce high-quality wine. Summer came in force, and it was hot and dry. It was not a year where we had 100°F plus days, but we had many more than usual days in the 90°Fs. With little rain and such heat, our vines were forced to tap into moisture with their deep root systems. 2014 will be a vintage representative of wines running on that deep root system of survival. This environmental stress will surely play out in a positive way, via the rich wines produced this year. We picked the blocks at the Twelve Oaks Estate for our soon-to-be-launched sparkling wine program on September 13th. Our last pick finished up with our Müller-Thurgau at the Anne Amie Estate on Columbus Day October 13th.

When Dr. Robert Pamplin, one of Oregon’s most forward-thinking philanthropists and businessmen, purchased the historic Chateau Benoit Winery in 1999, his vision was to create wines of the highest quality to reflect his passion for excellence. To this end, Dr. Pamplin has charged winemaker Thomas Houseman and winegrower Peter Ebbers with the task of crafting extraordinary pinot noir. Thomas, Peter, and the rest of the crew are absolutely passionate about producing wines of the finest quality and have dedicated their lives to this quest.
Pinot reigns supreme at Anne Amie Vineyards with Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Blanc forming the heart of our production. Complementing the pinot family is Old-Vine Estate Müller Thurgau, planted in 1979. As with all great wines, ours start in the vineyards. We are fortunate to have some of Oregon’s best sites, all of which are Salmon Safe and LIVE certified. Our estate vineyards, along with those we purchase from, receive only the minimal required treatments, and yields are dramatically reduced in order to give fruit with great depth and complexity.
Our estate vineyards are located in the rolling hills of the Yamhill-Carlton District and on the steep hillsides of the Chehalem Mountains, both nestled in Oregon’s verdant Willamette Valley. Our LIVE certified winery is located on our Yamhill-Carlton property, a few miles from both Lafayette and Carlton, Oregon.

What a nice surprise to receive a bottle of Oregon wine. It almost brought us back to that velvet mossy smell of hiking trails, soft and persistent drizzle and green woody areas.
Don’t let the ‘dry’ label fool you, even though the freshness and the acidity there is a small sweetness that peeks through, much like the sunlight through the clouds on an Oregon afternoon. It is a very complex and acidic yet oddly comforting wine.
We started off by letting it chill, and then tasted slowly as we went. My first impression was a faintness of sweet honey, followed by a lime aftertaste, while my wife said citrus and peppercorn. I found I didn’t care for the acidity, but I did agree that it definitely mellowed out the longer it found air and I personally found that more palatable. We both agreed that there was a definitely change in smell as the wine warmed but it was hard to describe. As we were finishing the wine, it had more of a memory of sweet lemon verbena with an earthy-mineral finish.
We had a small cheese, fruit and nut tray but what really brought the wine to the forefront of the palate was some good charcuterie, a bit of salami and some honey ham. I bet this would be amazing with a garlic clam linguine or ribs in sweet barbecue sauce. I wish I had a bit of spicy crunchy namkeen snack mix to test it with.

2014 Anne Amie Oregon Estate Dry Riesling - $35 = 25.91%
Good evening and happy holidays to all!
I have the pleasure to lab rat again! Today I tasted the 2014 Anne Amie Dry Riesling. Color is a pale stray to gold color that clears toward the edges. Legs barely form with the lowish 13.4% alcohol. On the nose I get a lot of jasmine and petrol with a bit of citrus. As to taste; very dry with a moderate plus acidity. Medium-low body. Flavors are primarily green apple, a floral note, lemon, apricot, and petrol. There is a good minerality, mostly wet slate, present that stays through the long finish.
Overall, this wine has some complexity and is fine on its own, but the acidity levels really want to pair with some food.
Tried the wine with a some Mexican flavors, fruit, spicy nuts and sweets. The Riesling worked well with ceviche, surprising for acid-acid pair. Did OK with grilled chicken, guac, and queso. Similar story with a couple different spiced nuts. Highlighted some of the spicy notes, but didn’t make good cohesion. Where the wine paired exceptionally well was with sea salt caramel covered in dark chocolate. Not as great, but still good with dark chocolate peppermint bark (tis the season). Seems to do well with chocolate in general.
Since I purchased the 2016/2017 Anne Amie Riesling offer, I decided to pull out a bottle of 2016 to compare. Recollection of this wine was good with all the usual pairings. In comparison, the 2016 lacks the petrol note found in the 2014 which makes the 2016 slightly less complex, but better highlights the stone fruit flavors. I preferred the 2016 in most of the cross pairings except the caramel chocolate. This may be more of the strong sweet flavors nullifying the petrol for more complexity. Of note, both wines have some early bubbles, with the 2014 mostly gone before first sip and the 2016 has some that make it to the first half glass or so.
Overall I liked the 2014 Anne Amie Riesling, just not as much as I have the 2016/2017 versions. It may be the additional age or just vintage variations.
@ronnyd as someone in “the biz” I can tell you that the state of MI is making it very hard to want to ship in to MI… more and more over-sight, more paperwork, more regulation etc etc. It’s a shame and a disservice to the people living in MI
@ronnyd@tastebud But on the bright side, Michigan’s backwards laws that got struck down by the Supreme Court enabled WD to invent this business model and bring us these amazing wineries and great deals…

Top 10 best American Dry Rieslings I’ve ever had. the Anne Amie is full of red & green apple, dried lemon peels, dried and crushed herbs, lemon tea, river rocks and petrol smells and flavors. Authentic and delicious. There are nearly infinite food pairings with the Anne Amie Dry Riesling, yet my mind goes to the traditional. Grilled sausages* and German potato salad.
*Try to get the Bruce Aidell’s spicy mango with jalapeño sausage. I haven’t had it, but I bet it’s a great match!
More Information
I’ve become well acquainted with Anne Amie wines from tasting them frequently with their California broker. They are consistently delicious, graceful, honest expressions of the grape and place (Yamhill Carlton, a sub-AVA of Willamette Valley.) Alcohols tend to run in the 12-13%, making them particularly good on the brunch & dinner table. And what values! Hard to beat the quality for price, especially their Pinot Noirs when you look at their neighbors’ prices.
Anyone in SF or greater Bay Area want to go splitsies on a case? I am down for up to six but do not need a full case. Have never been disappointed with Anne Amie (have even visited the winery) so I am sure this is good stuff.
Wow, Anne Amie wines are an Auto Buy for me! I was stationed in Germany (Schwäbisch Hall/Hessental) over 50 yrs ago and was introduced to Rieslings by Herr Burger at his Gasthof. Anne Amie Rieslings bring me back to those days. I visited Anne Amie’s vineyards when my son flew me out to Portland while he was on a project. The people at the winery were great and so was their wine, especially their Riesling and Pinot Noir!
This offer is at a great price! I have 6 btls of their 2015 Dry Riesling and 15 btls of other Anne Amie wine. My basement is so full of wine boxes, I have no more room!!
Maybe at a future date, WD49 and his trusty Elves could work another great deal for some of Anne Amie’s Pinot Noir??

WORKER BEES! HERCULES! TURKEY GREASE! AWESOME!
I really wanted a wine that would go with a green or yellow curry, so I guess I’ll have to pass on this one. (Also, no shipping to Connecticut!)
I got a case of this last time. We have used it to brine several turkeys and then along with our meal. Delicious stuff!

anyone in CO picked up the case and wants to split? I could easily take 4+ (since the cases are sold out)
Not a huge Riesling fan, but the SO is, so these are for her.

@rjquillin Oh no, I checked just too late. Congrats on the sell out though!
