Meh on the Wine Check. I fly with wine almost weekly now. Built myself a case from a pelican 1440. Its similar to the WineCruzer cases, but didn’t cost me a fortune. Can get 9 bottles in and still under 50lbs. Has a handle and wheels that make it super easy to use. It can be locked and you never have to worry about a thing. I’ve had bottles break using paper and styro when the airlines handle them. I’ve flown with it about 75 times and only minor cosmetic damage to date.
@trifecta Ok, there are those that take things to the extreme. Took the winecheck with a full case to Japan last year and all was good. Perhaps I just have more $$ than time, but the WC wasn’t all that pricy.
@rjquillin Agree that my situation is probably the extreme. I just hate having to dispose of styrofoam that breaks after a single usage. I also like the added benefit of the insulation in the pelican. It can ride around in a trunk all day in summer and keep wines cool.
@trifecta And here I thought I was being crafty rolling bottles up in my laundry! I’ve probably brought 50 bottles back from Europe, and so far I’ve been lucky.
@markgm It was rum, not wine, but I brought back 12 750ml bottles from St Thomas about a decade ago: six in the cardboard “duty free pack” as carry on and six packed in my suitcase, securely wrapped in laundry.
@trifecta That’s impressive. I had a couple of awesome pelican cases that I used for my telescope and mount, LOVE those cases. And they are customizable, never would have thought about it for wine!
I’m talking more about transporting to the other participants within your area. but hey, would love to see a pic of the case you made. Maybe you could sell those things.
@jmruru I have two bags from a duty free shop in Puerto Rico which have dividers for 6 bottles I use locally. They do not have a ton of insulstion so its not for keeping in the car for long periods during the summer, but works great to get it across town!
Case boxes from wine country connect in the cooler months use a formed cardboard separator between layers. And in the warmer months they ship in a styro shipper that doubles as a storage method.
I’ve saved both a case and 6-pack styro shippers, the ones with space(s) for an ice pack inside. Works great when I took wine go family or WW gatherings.
Maybe @Winedavid49 can bring this deal back to Gourmet.Woot as a plus offer? I bought a set and have quite a few left, looks like they might come in handy for splitting cases! 20 Random 6, 4 or 2 Bottle Cloth Wine Bags
Wine Check is a great way to go.
