2017 Mauricio Lorca Cabernet Sauvignon, Mendoza, Argentina
90 Points, Vinous Media 90 Points, James Suckling
Tasting Notes
Deep garnet-red color. Very expressive. Spicy aromas with pepper, mint, and floral notes. Great amplitude in the mouth, with very good structure and a soft, elegant, and persistent finish. This is an ideal wine to serve with a variety of grilled and smoked red meats, seasoned sauces, stews, and pasta. Excellent with chocolate.
Mauricio Lorca, a true winemaking prodigy, has an illustrious career that began under the tutelage of legendary figures like Nicolas Catena, Paul Hobbs, and José Galante (aka the father of modern enology in Argentina). At just 24 years old, he became the head winemaker of Luigi Bosca. His global adventures in the world’s finest vineyards reinforced his belief in Mendoza’s potential to create world-class wines.
“An unaged Cabernet from Vista Flores defined by its terroir: sour cherry, mint, and black currant plus intense herbal notes. Juicy and flavorful on the palate, showing fine, active tannins that supply energy without getting in the way. A smooth wine with a tasty, long finish.” 90 Points, Vinous Media
“This has attractive aromas of violets with a wealth of red berries and plums. The fresh, fleshy palate has a deep, velvety finish with a gently smoky edge. Drink now.” 90 Points, James Suckling

Hi all! Happy to leave a rodent review for this deep garnet wine. This is a good cab. I don’t love it, but I like it. For the case price, I think it’s a great deal!
My impression was that it’s oak forward, with some black cherry, some subtle earthy planty notes, and a good bit of dryness to cut through a plate of aged cheeses.
Pairing-wise, it clashed with a nice wood grilled ribeye somehow. As if the char and herb flavors overwhelmed it. But, when tasted after eating some aged Parmesan, it was great.
It definitely needed to breathe for at least 20 minutes, but was not too hot after that.
I drank what I poured initially in the glass, and a little extra after that, to try it a little warmer than the recommended serving temp.
Either way, it had a nice flavor, if not a little on the mild side as far as depth of flavor. Not my personally favorite cab, but nothing bad about it at all.
Thanks, and I hope you have a great week!
Many apologies to both @winedavid and the community. We were on vacation in Myrtle Beach last week when I got the Labrat notification. UPS did it’s 3 missed deliveries, but happened to reach out to me yesterday because they hadn’t yet returned it to shipper…so just got the bottle today. After work, I popped it open, poured it into a GoVino glass through the Vinturi, and then went to get my Chic-fil-A mobile order.
Going to post a few super quick notes right now to at least get something out there for you all before this offer ends, and will try to add a few more additional notes if I can once I start eating my dinner…to let you all know how this pairs with CfA.
So it has sat in the glass for probably 20 minutes or so. On the nose I think I’m getting some dark cherries, some earthiness and mild spice and maybe some slight spice.
On the palate is definitely some more black cherry and other notes that I’m just not good at describing. It has a slightly off aftertaste, but not bad. Just not sure it’s something to drink by itself. Overall, it’s a good everyday drinker, especially for the low cost that wines from Argentina tend to have.
I’ll try to add some more in a bit while I start eating my chicken tenders and fries.
So adding a bit more, after continuing to sip while eating, I’m certainly enjoying it more. It oddly goes well with Chick-fil-A sauce. I would say I probably agree with the other labrat in that this isn’t a steak Cab. It’s lighter, a bit fruitier but still with some of the boldness that cabs can have. The aftertaste I’m thinking may be a slight bit of sour cherry, which is why it wouldn’t go with steak but might go well with other foods and cheeses.
Personally not sure I would seek this one out, but it’s certainly a decent table wine.

@DanFielding an oak-forward, unoaked cabernet!
We really enjoyed the Malbec from same producer.

Where is the second rat? I really want to know what they think-the first kinda left me wondering-really really loved the Malbec.

@HitAnyKey42 any particular reason you thought this needed to go through an aerator?
@kaolis No reason. Simply because I was essentially doing it as a quick pop-n-pour on a Cab, other than allowing the time to run to get my dinner.
