Casemates backouts?
1So, what does the group think about people who offer to share a case and then back out after the order has been placed?
Perhaps some of the blame can be directed at this website since it does not send notifications to people when others respond to their posts or whispers. Without improved functionality, I’m afraid that I will not consider being a “casemate” on any other offerings so I don’t get screwed again.

I read that as “blackouts”.
@fibrs86 Initially it was “deadbeats”, but I decided, perhaps unwisely, to tone it down a bit.
@fibrs86 So did I.
@fibrs86 Same!
@fibrs86 I saw it as “Laurel”
@capnjb @fibrs86 Yonnie!
I’m all for public shaming. But then again I don’t tolerate behavior like that. We are all adults here and our word should be good. With that said let others know so we can’t make the same deals only to see someone back out. Also with the systems we have here it could be that they lost their split list.
Regarding notifications:
https://casemates.com/account/email-subscriptions
(If you visit a topic before the notification is triggered, usually ~5-10 minutes, it won’t be sent.)
@Thumperchick My settings below - and I have not received a notification of your response either…
Nor am I receiving any notifications about Casemates wine deals which certainly is beyond the 5-10 minute threshold.
@Thumperchick Mea Cupla! I just found all the notifications in my SPAM folder. Sorry for my ignorance!
But I am still pissed at the dead beat who backed out of an offer to split a case only AFTER it had been ordered!
@Zortapa Spam folders are good at making life ever-so-slightly more difficult sometimes.
I’m bummed a casemate bailed after an order was placed. If it’s for the current offer, write in to support and see if it can be canceled so you can change your order, if you’d like.
@Thumperchick It’s a case that I just received today. I’ll chalk this up to a learning experience. And without any semblance of accountability for people like that, it’s an experience that I will be sure not to have again.
I find the forum not conducive to rapid communication. I’m certainly no Luddite, but subscribing to changes and no PM seems a step backwards. I have had trouble arranging splits simply because I don’t check the forum daily.
@nostrom0 I have just used the whisper as means of sharing contact info of email or phone number and used that after first agreement on splitting.
@nostrom0 I totally agree. Even with the notifications, the main system doesn’t show unread whispers as having anything “new” in the thread, nor do those sections automatically open as I’ve set them to do.
The last thing @WineDavid49, @snapster, and @dave want is for frustration with the website to get in the way of a robust community and many casemates meeting up to divvy up their spoils.
@dave @klezman @nostrom0 @snapster @Winedavid49
Yes!
This!
And not the first time this has been a topic for discussion.
@nostrom0 @raccoon81 Same here. Initially we started with whispers. We all now have each other’s contact info so the splits always go well. Caveat emptor!?
@nostrom0 Agreed, this is not a robust forum solution.
(How long do we get to edit/correct a post??? “begin” >> “being”)
@Zortapa Usually about 5 minutes. I updated that for you.

Yeah, I’m not splitting until there’s a solid system in place for it. Then again, so far my roommate and I seem to go through 2 cases a month just fine on our own, between cooking and drinking, so I’m not too fussed with the concept anyway.
I get notifications when people comment on my posts.
Do you really?
@mother Do you?
Well, I’ve been getting them in the Seattle thread. Maybe I did something different there?
@airynne
@mother’s point is that you only get notified if somebody tags you with @ + username. Hardly robust, even though a proper reply includes it by default. But if I, like many people, use the box at the bottom instead, then it’s just another general comment that isn’t linked to the one it’s replying to.
